Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 292: Purchasing Slave Creatures

Duke really didn't pay much attention to this news. He spent most of his time each day on practicing and boosting his proficiency, leaving little time and energy to keep up with such matters.

He hadn't realized that the Wizards of Black Sail could purchase slave creatures directly from the Slave Creature Legion, facilitating the process and making the information more concealed.

Duke had originally intended to purchase some powerful slave creatures through the Giant Rock Commerce Association's channels, but considering the risk of information leaking over there, he decided to consult Merrick.

After returning to Black Sail, he quickly got in touch with Lucas.

"Slave creatures? Sure, what level of strength are you looking for?" Lucas responded.

"The stronger, the better. Given my current Spiritual Power, it's probably around Level 1 Peak," Duke said.

Slave creatures cannot be owned indiscriminately; one must have sufficient power and Spiritual Power.

Based on Duke's current level of Spiritual Power, the strongest slave creatures he could control were those at Level 1 Peak. He couldn't manage Level 2 slave creatures.

Even forcing a Slave Contract would heavily burden his Spiritual Power and might lead to a breakdown if he wasn't careful.

Lucas then said, "Sure, typically Level 1 slave creatures are priced between ten thousand Level 1 Magic Stones and fifty thousand Level 1 Magic Stones per head."

The price was relatively cheap, mainly because these purchases happened through internal channels within Black Sail, which almost didn't make any profit, and might even be a loss when truly calculated.

Black Sail allows and even encourages Wizards to bring their own slave creatures, reducing pressure on Black Sail during inter-plane wars.

Duke's intention in purchasing slave creatures was to prepare for the Void Corridor.

Generally speaking, slave creatures couldn't be brought in, as only two-person teams were allowed, with any slave creature counting as one.

But Duke has the backing of the Light God Court, enabling him to bring many slave creatures inside.

That's his advantage, and he naturally wants to leverage it.

Even if others have questions, he doesn't need to explain himself, as the rules don't prohibit bringing slave creatures; others simply lack the means.

There's no need to explain to others how he manages to bring slave creatures inside.

"I've contacted someone for you. A person named Tom will come to see you soon. He's in charge of slave creature transactions in our third legion," Lucas said.

"Thank you, Mr. Lucas!" Duke expressed his gratitude.

Lucas helped him contact Tom, who soon visited the Deserted Island. He was a short, plump Level 2 Wizard with very small eyes that occasionally revealed a shrewd glint.

Tom said with a big smile, "Mr. Duke, I've prepared some Level 1 Peak slave creatures for you. Are you available to take a look now?"

"Sorry for the trouble, Mr. Tom, but let's go and check them out now," Duke responded politely.

Despite being a Level 2 Wizard, Tom seemed modest in front of Duke.

The two then boarded a boat headed to the Elizabeth, where the slave creatures prepared for Duke were kept.

The Elizabeth, as a ship akin to a small continent, had a vast area.

Duke flew with Tom for nearly half an hour before they stopped at a flat, open land and entered an underground entrance.

This was the dormitory for the slave creatures, which were essentially prisons for holding them. Conditions were significantly better than a regular prison, but they still restricted the freedom of these slave creatures.

Upon entering the underground entrance, Duke was greeted by a blend of pungent beast musk, antiseptic smell, rust-covered metal, and an indescribable aura belonging to a strong life form's energy fields.

The air was dense and humid with an uncanny chill.

The passageway was not narrow and gloomy like imagined prison alleys, but incredibly spacious and towering, akin to entering a massive underground hive.

Overhead were light strips emitting a constant cold white glow, illuminating the whole space as bright as daylight, seemingly made from some special ore.

On either side were rows of enormous cages made from special Magic Metal that flickered with a ghostly blue hue.

The smallest cage was three square meters, while the larger ones were akin to small plazas.

The cages weren't fully enclosed but consisted of alloy bars as thick as arms forming a fence, with visible energy barriers flowing in the gaps to impede physical collisions and suppress energy explosions.

Within these cages were slave creatures, the spaces inside generally spacious, and many divided into smaller rooms, clearly delineating areas for waste disposal and dining.

Rather than being filthy like typical cages, they looked relatively livable, barring the outer fencing.

To be caged here meant the slave creatures were at least Level 1 beings, all possessing considerable power.

And this was only the first layer, with stronger slave creatures residing further downwards into better living conditions.

It's said that some slave creatures even have private spaces, some living in entire grassy fields with extremely favorable conditions.

However, they all share a common flaw: lack of personal freedom.

Only those who shed their slave creature status can leave here and truly live freely like the Wizards of Black Sail Legion.

Such cases are aplenty, yet opportunities to escape slave creature status are exceedingly rare, leaving little hope for most of them.

The nearest cage held a creature shaped like a giant lizard with three fierce heads.

Its body was covered in dark red scales, with a molten glow ominously willowing between the crevices. Its six vertical pupils coldly observed the newcomers in the passage, an agitated tail slamming the ground, making deep noises and causing slight tremors with each hit, filling the air with a faint sulfur smell.

"This is a Three-headed Magma Lizard, Level 1 Peak strength, very capable in combat," Tom commented as they walked.

A bit further, a massive bear with armored ice crystal covering was curled up asleep. Every breath created a frost sheet that settled on the cage's inner wall, noticeably lowering the surrounding temperature.

"That's an Ice Armor Bear, ordinary Level 1 strength, very strong and resilient, but a bit slow and temperamental," Tom explained, sounding as if he were describing products on a shelf.

Ahead, Duke spotted a flying creature held in a larger cage.
