Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 299: Passage

After Duke finished picking the Chris Grass here, he used fire to handle all the corpses on the ground to avoid any hidden dangers.

These are the most basic knowledge; a wizard's corpse can easily produce some special energy reactions, especially for official wizards.

If the deceased had been in contact with any undead element or negative energy element things before passing, it would further provoke such changes.

Once the corpse occurs such energy reactions, under influences like resentment, it is very likely to generate curses targeting enemies.

Such curses are often troublesome and should be avoided whenever possible.

Duke recalled the map in his mind and said, "Shall we go to the next fragment area?"

This place no longer holds much of value, at least not for them; they need to go to other fragment areas to find some high-value items.

"Sure, there's a stable passage right here, let's go through the passage," Merrick said.

There are two ways to travel between fragment areas: one is to fly over to other fragment areas, the other is to go through existing passages.

The first way is relatively dangerous because during flying between fragment areas, some distant entities might target you as prey.

Although the possibility is low, precautions must be taken.

The second way is relatively safer because these passages were built by the Wizard Council, and both the entrances and exits of these passages are relatively safe areas.

However, this safety refers to the safety of the area itself; if a wizard is specifically guarding the entrance or exit, one would face attacks upon leaving the passage.

Both travel methods present some risks; once inside the Void Corridor, there is no absolutely safe area.

The next fragment area is relatively large, with only one-third of its area explored, leaving the remaining two-thirds as unknown territories.

Such unknown areas possess certain risks but also contain huge opportunities; unexplored means resources have not been taken.

Moreover, that place doesn't have a passage to lead to another place, only a way back to here.

By then, if they'd want to go to other fragment areas, they'd have to fly over on their own.

Duke and Merrick spent two hours getting near the passage, whereas outside, it wouldn't take that long.

But within the Void Corridor, they dared not fly at full speed, inching forward cautiously and checking the Energy Detector's status after every few steps to ensure no danger lurked nearby.

Duke also consistently employed the Eye of Darkness for nearby probing, exercising great caution on their journey before finally arriving near the passage.

The passage in this fragment area is a white vortex, a simple walk through it transports you to another fragment area.

Duke and Merrick didn't rush into the passage but first prepared defenses to prevent attacks once they cross over.

Duke had already enveloped himself with yellow sand, becoming a sand sphere, and infused the sand with abundant magic power to ensure sufficient defense.

Merrick took out a doll-like witchcraft artifact, which when activated, emitted numerous black mist.

The black mist coiled around him, eventually forming a giant doll-shaped shadow completely shrouding Merrick.

The shadow appeared like curling smoke, seemingly without defensive capabilities.

After doing so, Merrick seemed at ease, directly heading towards the passage with Duke following closely, entering in succession.

After a brief dizzy spell, fiery pillars shot up beneath Duke and Merrick's feet, carrying extreme heat sufficient to instantly melt some steel.

These didn't affect Duke as the yellow sand enveloped him thoroughly, remaining utterly unfazed by the fiery pillars.

Not even the high temperatures from the fiery pillars penetrated; the sand absorbed all the heat, keeping the core untouched.

Merrick similarly remained unaffected; all flames dissipated upon nearing him, likely due to special restraint against elemental magic.

Duke and Merrick paid no mind to the fiery pillars but quickly scanned around, finding no presence of any people.

They had initially thought someone lay in ambush here, only to find not a single trace of anyone.

Neither spiritual power sensing nor the Eye of Darkness detected any other individuals.

Duke, after leaving the passage, glanced back, noticing strange runes etched on the ground.

"It's a witch array," Merrick recognized at once.

Being a student of Alchemy Master Land, while studying alchemy, his expertise in witch arrays was also decent.

There was a trigger witch array laid on the ground before the passage; it instantly activates once someone appears above, hence the previous fiery pillar.

If someone didn't prepare adequate defenses and carelessly entered the passage, they'd be greeted by a pillar of fire upon landing.

Such fiery pillars equate to spells from a Level 1 Liquidation Mage; without prior defenses, one would at least suffer grave injuries if not death.

Grave injuries here essentially spell death, as leaving the Void Corridor mandates journeying across fifteen regions — only there lie the exits.

This witch array was evidently newly set up; its setter sinisterly intent on diminishing competition using such means.

Duke and Merrick opted not to dismantle the array; judging from footprints on the ground, several people ought to have passed this way without dismantling it, indicating shared intentions.

Those injured by the array likely lack strong prowess, and for those unharmed, demolishing the array serves little purpose.

This array inadvertently became a selection threshold for the fragment area; only those who traverse it are qualified to contest for resources here.

Duke looked ahead, only to find an expanse of darkness, faintly perceivable undulating mountains sprawling endlessly.

The entire world was deathly silent, not a sound to be heard.

After observing everything, Duke promptly said, "We need to leave quickly."

Merrick understood Duke's meaning; they hurriedly departed the passage vicinity towards regions recorded on the map, deemed relatively safer.

They hastened their leave because the fiery pillars just now served as a signal — intensely conspicuous here, letting all wizards in the area know someone had arrived.
