From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor

Chapter 29: Stiff Neck (Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to All)

Zhou Wenbin discovered that Shi Zhiwei and his wife had already left after he returned. Although he knew this matter wouldn't end just like that, he could at least take a breather for now.

Cheng Xiaohong picked up a small fragment of a bracelet at the scene and was examining how much it might be worth, as women tend to show special interest in such things.

Xu Chunliang couldn't help but laugh at her serious expression: "Sister Cheng, this kind of jade bracelet isn't worth much. The riverbeds around Kunlun Mountain have them all over." He had seen plenty of jewelry, and this bracelet was of third-rate quality, easily found in any jade shop, at least in the past.

Cheng Xiaohong retorted, "What do you know? I know a little about this. This bracelet should be quite precious. Didn't you hear her say it could be worth a lifetime of Director Cai's income?"

Zhou Wenbin just walked in: "She can boast all she wants, but Director Cai's annual income is at least half a million. Over a lifetime, it'd be at least tens of millions. I don't believe this bracelet could be worth ten million."

Cheng Xiaohong, full of envy, said, "It's still good to be a doctor. We working in administration get such low fixed wages; we won't make much working our whole lives."

Xu Chunliang laughed, "As a woman, you shouldn't worry about money. Marry a good man and you'll have everything." The two were already quite familiar with each other and often joked with each other.

Cheng Xiaohong retorted, "I didn't realize you were so chauvinistic. Women also have to be independent. If you rely on men for everything, people will look down on you."

Xu Chunliang thought to himself, the temperament of women these days is completely different from the past. Previously, women focused on family and avoided the public eye, but now they speak of independence all the time.

Zhou Wenbin asked Cheng Xiaohong for the bracelet piece and stared at it for a while, his brows furrowed, his face full of worry.

Cheng Xiaohong and Xu Chunliang exchanged a glance. Zhou Wenbin was an open book; you could tell he was troubled just by his expression.

Xu Chunliang said, "Boss, you didn't break this bracelet. What are you worried about?"

Zhou Wenbin sighed, "That couple is definitely not good news. Even though they left today, they're sure to come back and cause trouble. This matter has already alarmed the big boss. If we can't resolve it quickly, we'll be in for a reprimand."

Xu Chunliang laughed, "When the sky falls, the big shots handle it."

Zhou Wenbin, half laughing and half crying, replied, "Don't be so irresponsible. Director Cai is, after all, a senior. You have to give her some respect."

"I don't like what you're saying. We treat her as a senior, yet she gives us attitude. It's clearly her issue, and she's not proactive at all. Why should we suffer for her? If she doesn't act her age, don't blame me for stepping out of line!"

"Xiaoxu, our medical office work is just this way."

"Boss, what do you mean? Our job is to be trapped between others? Well, then it's not worth doing."

It was already time to get off work. Zhou Wenbin told them to leave first. In the evening, Zeng Hongwen from the beauty department invited him to dinner to discuss this dispute. Zhou Wenbin was eager to resolve it quickly. Although Shi Zhiwei and his wife hadn't demanded a specific compensation amount, it ultimately boiled down to money. If Zeng Hongwen was willing to put up some money to settle it, things would be much easier.

Xu Chunliang's most commonly used form of transportation now was a public bicycle. The hospital wasn't far from Huichun Hall, and since summer hadn't yet passed, he planned to learn to drive a bit later.

As he cycled past Tongji Bridge, a Toyota Prado passed him, quickly decelerating. The passenger window rolled down, and Shi Zhiwei, in sunglasses, glared menacingly at him.

Xu Chunliang stopped his bike, and Shi Zhiwei stopped his car, took off his sunglasses, and pointed at Xu Chunliang: "You better watch out."

Xu Chunliang, unfazed, pointed back at Shi Zhiwei: "If you have the guts, come down."

Originally, Shi Zhiwei just wanted to intimidate him a bit. In broad daylight, it wasn't feasible to act violently on the street, but Xu Chunliang wasn't intimidated at all. With Shi Zhiwei's friends in the car, they thought their presence would intimidate the young man, but rather, he was unfazed and even provoked them.

Shi Zhiwei got angry and had his companions stop the car. Three people got out of the car.

Xu Chunliang had already disliked Shi Zhiwei in the hospital but had held back because they were at work. Now this reckless person dared to come looking for trouble - who could he blame if he got hurt?

A clash seemed imminent when suddenly the sound of a police siren came from behind. A police car arrived nearby.

Inside the police car were Lu Qi and Li Zhong. Lu Qi opened the car door and got out, sternly shouting, "Who allowed you to park here?"

Shi Zhiwei was taken aback and quickly realized that they weren't traffic police. He smiled, "There's no rule against temporary parking here, is there? You guys aren't traffic police, right?"

Lu Qi nodded, "Then go ahead and park. I'll contact a towing service to help you find a parking lot."

Shi Zhiwei immediately backed down, smiling apologetically, "Officer, I'm leaving right away. I'm familiar with Captain Liu."

"Which Captain Liu? Call him to come over." Lu Qi despised those who flaunted their supposed connections and mentioned leaders casually.

Realizing Lu Qi wasn't friendly, Shi Zhiwei decided it wasn't worth making a fuss over such a trivial matter, so he quickly got back in the car and drove away.

After they drove off, Lu Qi finally greeted Xu Chunliang: "What happened? It looked like they were causing you trouble."

Xu Chunliang smiled, "Brother Lu, you misunderstood. They were just asking me for directions."

Li Zhong also got out of the car: "I know that guy; he works in earthwork on construction sites, named Shi Zhiwei. He owns a quarry, has some money, and connections with the bureau."

Lu Qi nodded. In such a profession, one would have a network due to the large vehicles involved. Xu Chunliang hadn't told the truth, so Lu Qi reminded him, "If you have trouble, find the police. Don't think of handling everything yourself." While he knew Xu Chunliang for quite some time, he couldn't claim to understand him. The more he interacted with him, the more he felt this young man was elusive.

Xu Chunliang replied, "Don't worry, I know the law. By the way, how's that case investigation going?"

Lu Qi couldn't reveal too much, only saying that the investigation was ongoing, but Fan Yajun had already confessed, and other suspects were being apprehended.

When Xu Chunliang got home, he saw Deputy Dean Gao Xinhua there. He had woken up with a stiff neck, and after a morning of physical therapy and heat treatment without much relief, he took a Fenbid for the pain, which hadn't lessened. He thought of Elder Xu for help.

Treating a stiff neck is Huichun Hall's specialty; Xu Changshan examined him. A stiff neck usually results from poor sleeping posture or cold wind invading the neck and shoulders, causing muscle spasms, pain, and limited movement.

From the meridian perspective, the Taiyang channel passes behind the neck, while the Shaoyang channel runs along the side. Generally, pain or tenderness in the back of the neck indicates an issue with the Taiyang channel, whereas unilateral neck pain or tenderness indicates a problem with the Shaoyang channel. Gao Xinhua belonged to the latter.

Xu Changshan had Gao Xinhua lie down and first inserted an acupuncture needle into the Xuanzhong point, also known as the Juegu point, located on the lower lateral calf, three inches above the lateral malleolus, near the anterior border of the fibula.

The Acupuncture Classic says: By seeking the sharp bone, the Juegu point is two parts apart, the great collateral of the foot's three yangs, pressing on it interrupts the Yangming pulse.

It belongs to the foot Shaoyang gallbladder meridian.

Xu Changshan inserted a fine needle into the gap between the muscles and bones at the Xuanzhong point.

As the needle penetrated, Gao Xinhua felt a sharp pain spread along the foot's Shaoyang gallbladder meridian to the lateral malleolus. The pain quickly turned into a sore, distending sensation with numb toes. Xu Changshan continued inserting the needle deeper, intensifying the sensation, expanding through the meridians to the knee and ankle joints, marking the second needle sensation.

Xu Changshan instructed Gao Xinhua to slowly rotate his neck, maintaining the second needle sensation for about four minutes.

Initially hesitant to move too vigorously, Gao Xinhua soon realized the pain in his neck had significantly reduced, allowing him to move more freely.

After four minutes of needling, Xu Changshan gently stimulated the first needle sensation again, reducing the pain while intensifying the soreness.

Next, Xu Changshan targeted the Jinmen point, a TCM term where 'Jin' represents the lung qi nature, while 'men' refers to the passage. The bladder meridian's qi and blood turn warm at the Jinmen point, and the bladder channel's lower meridians' hot steam rises to generate yang heat, while the heavy and cold-damp qi is locked below this point, therefore also known as the Guangliang point.

The Jinmen point is located on the lateral foot, at the junction of the outer malleolus and the cuboid bone. Utilizing fine needle insertion to evoke the second needle sensation, it involved needling for three minutes.

In addition to the earlier sensation, Gao Xinhua now experienced warmth along the meridians as directed by Xu Changshan, continuing to rotate his neck, which became increasingly relaxed.

According to TCM theory, stiff necks have a relationship with cold exposure; enjoying coolness in the summer leads to stagnant qi and blood at the neck and back, causing stiffness and pain, reducing mobility.

Through acupuncture at the Jinmen point, Xu Changshan invigorated yang heat, efficiently dispelling cold wind.

After three minutes of needling to stimulate the first needle sensation, Gao Xinhua could move his neck freely, only then noticing Xu Chunliang had returned.

Gao Xinhua smiled, "Chunliang, you're off work!"

Xu Chunliang responded, "Dean Gao, did you have a stiff neck?"
