My Life with Narration

Chapter 83: The Real and Fake Golden Retriever

The nine causes of near-death experiences for contemporary young people: death by being stuck, starvation, heat, annoyance, laughter, speechlessness, exhaustion, poverty, anger, and surviving anyhow—on a perfectly ordinary morning, all of these were vividly manifested in him.

What does any of this even mean? Anyway, he was completely bewildered.

The girl thought he was the kind of guy who uses a dog to hit on girls. After saying so, she turned and left with a disdainful look cast in his direction.

Then, both the person and the dog were petrified on the spot. Su Qing was stunned by this sudden blow. As his mother might say, wasn't this a bit presumptive? I hadn't even spoken yet!

At this moment, Da Huang lowered its head in a dejected manner, looking more like a dog rejected by a goddess than Wang Xing ever did—a true loyal lapdog indeed.

Da Huang's intelligence was undeniably high; otherwise, it wouldn't be able to communicate flawlessly with his mom, and its learning ability was certainly quite impressive.

Ever since the last time Su He finished his college entrance exams, and Da Huang appeared at the school gate carrying a rose, drawing cheers and photo-taking from the crowd, it had picked up this girl-attracting skill.

Actually, Old Su also encountered this kind of situation when taking Da Huang for morning walks, but being of a certain age and with Da Huang specifically targeting young and pretty women, no misunderstandings arose.

But soon, Da Huang recoiled and went off to scout its next target.

"Oh, this golden retriever has flowers in its mouth, are they for me?"

"Sit down, oh it understands me, can I pet it?"

"Ah, my dog!!"

Throughout the morning, Da Huang hit on at least four young, beautiful ladies, sometimes offering flowers, other times rubbing straight up against their legs, and, astonishingly, even dragging their small dogs along with their leashes away.

And each time, Su Qing had to come over and clean up its mess. Of course, Da Huang never went too far; it was just the usual act of behaving cute and cuddly, coupled with the ability to follow simple commands like sitting, shooing, or bowing, entertaining several girls to the point of giggling uncontrollably, so much so that they couldn't bear to leave, which made him feel a bit awkward standing by.

"Mister, two pork buns and a cup of soy milk!"

Almost eight o'clock, and a man and a dog leisurely returned; Su Qing stood in front of a small stall ready to grab a bite of breakfast.

"Woof" [What about mine?]

Watching him gobble up buns, Da Huang barked once with visible dissatisfaction.

The sudden translation from the narrator made Su Qing pause for a split second, then he pinched its dog face and said,

"You still have the nerve to ask? Earlier in the park you were scamming for food left and right, sausages here, little dumplings there, and I didn't see you share any with me!"

Indeed, after that first girl in the pink sportswear, the rest were all fond of Da Huang. The girl who received flowers even went so far as to give it a sausage.

Many people over there in the morning were young folks hurrying off to work, grabbing breakfast to eat on the go, not expecting to encounter a raider.

But all the food ended up in Da Huang's belly, and he didn't get a single bite. Of course, the girl couldn't possibly have fed him as well.

Initially, Su Qing felt a bit awkward, but as time went on, he grew numb. Eventually, he even took out his phone to record a video, keeping it as material.

Upon hearing this, Da Huang seemed to understand, jumping up and down while barking, expressing its dissatisfaction to the fullest extent.

"Woof woof woof woof woof" [The high-minded Da Huang does not regard itself as a dog and has started to doubt your capability as a poop-scooping servant, believing that staying with you might result in going hungry, or even that it might need to support you.]

Upon hearing the narrator's voice, Su Qing rolled his eyes while sipping his soy milk, eventually tossing the other bun he held in his hand.

With a leap, Da Huang jumped up and snapped at the floating bun. However, it failed to catch it, and the bun hit its face.

But Da Huang didn't mind, devouring the meat bun in just two or three bites.

"Woof woof!"

[Da Huang altered its opinion of you and feels that Chang Wei can be relied upon after all.]

Su Qing: ...

Sure enough, all it takes to handle a dog is a meat bun.

Eating while heading back, they quickly returned to the apartment complex. By this time, the sun had risen, and the temperature was mildly cool, marking the most comfortable moment of the day; however, all Su Qing wanted was to rush back and catch some more sleep, otherwise he wouldn't be able to work.

"Is that Little Su? Good morning!"

At this moment, a gentle voice came through. Su Qing turned and saw the landlady who had also just finished her run, returning.

At this time, dressed in an ordinary blue tracksuit, Wen Nanqing's forehead and neck were covered in a sheen of sweat, and she carried a breakfast in her hand, suggesting she had just finished a morning workout.

"Morning Wen Jie!" Su Qing hastened to greet with a grin.

It was only after signing the contract that he came to know the landlady's name, which indeed matched her distinguished aura, possessing an air of classical beauty.

"Did you also go for a run? Not bad, there aren't many young folks like you nowadays. By the way, is this the dog you mentioned?" Wen Nanqing conversed gently, looking towards Da Huang.

Upon hearing this, Su Qing was filled with immense sweat, contemplating his situation as he had been roused by the dog. Yet he could only muster to admit it, saying with a smile, "Yes, my mom's dog. She's been busy, so I've taken it in for a few days. Don't worry, it's well-behaved, it even knows how to use the toilet, it won't mess around at home."

Although he had previously informed the landlady about bringing a dog, given her inquiry, he still needed to provide an explanation.

Upon hearing this, Wen Nanqing exhibited considerable interest: "Oh? It even knows how to use the toilet, what an obedient dog!"

In response, before he could even answer, Da Huang suddenly sprang forward, nearly causing Su Qing to lose his balance. Amidst Wen Nanqing's exclamation, Da Huang plunged into the greenery beside them.

When it emerged again, it had a blue iris flower in its mouth. It then hopped happily to Wen Nanqing and sat down, glancing up with squinted eyes, producing a dog-like grin, utterly adorable.

No matter how composed Wen Nanqing normally was, witnessing this scene compelled her to chuckle out loud.

"Is this for me?" Wen Nanqing asked with slight uncertainty.

Despite not owning a dog, Wen Nanqing was not afraid of dogs, but with such a large one, she exercised some caution.

Upon her words, Da Huang nodded its doggy head, causing Wen Nanqing's eyes to widen. She received the flower from Da Huang's mouth while covering hers in amazement, gesturing to Da Huang and exclaiming, "It understands my words, so smart! Can I pet it?"

Regaining his balance, Su Qing took a deep breath, resisting the urge to transform into Chang Wei, replying:

"It doesn't bite, you can pet it."

The moment these words fell, Da Huang's eyes lit up; it lifted a paw onto Wen Nanqing's lap and then turned towards Su Qing with a confused bark,

"Woof" [It turns out, it truly doesn't bite and is obedient, huh?]

Wen Nanqing: ???

Su Qing: ...

At this point, he was on the verge of breaking down. Honestly, at times he genuinely felt like this dog had become enlightened, understanding everything spoken. Then he stepped forward and gave the dog a playful swipe on its head:

"I said you don't bite, I didn't ask you to touch her!"

In return, upon seeing Da Huang's aggrieved expression, Wen Nanqing burst into laughter again. Following which, she was no longer apprehensive, extending her hand to rub Da Huang's cheek.

"It's so smart, what's its name?"

After thinking for a moment, Su Qing whispered, "Its name is Lai Fu."

"Lai Fu?"

"Yes, you can call me Su Chang Wei."
