Legendary Awakening: Harem System In The Post-Apocalyptic World

Chapter 105: Animals

Half an hour later, after they had digested the Nutritious Bread and were no longer feeling as weak, Max had them pack their clothes and led them toward the block where Chloe lived.

He had the siblings tell him if they saw any of their neighbors on the way, but they did not.

As they left their neighborhood and crossed the nearby blocks, both Noah and Naira's expressions turned graver and graver, their heart trembling at the sight of countless corpses littering the streets.

As for living people… they didn't see a single one.

Clearly, those people hadn't targeted their neighborhood only, these areas also were their victims. And from what they could see, almost everyone had been killed.

Naira shifted closer to Max, wrapping her hand around his arm.

"Those people are animals. They didn't even spare children." She said in a trembling voice as she looked at a five or six years old's corpse.

Noah's expression shifted when he saw his sister's action before looking away.

"Animals indeed." Max said, his voice bone chillingly cold. While he didn't think of himself as a benevolent or kind hearted guy—because he was not and he knew it—he would never indiscriminately slaughter the innocents like they had.

"Let's hurry up." He began walking faster. He quickly needed to check the area Chloe lived in. If she was there and alive, he would take her with him, otherwise he would return to the Mansion quickly and warn Jamie and others to be on lookout.

These people, whether they were Martial Artists or not, were a serious threat which he needed to eliminate as soon as possible lest they harm more of his subjects.

As they crossed blocks and neared the college area, the scenery didn't change. But by now, the siblings had gotten used to the gruesome sights.

When they were just a block away from where Chloe lived…

"Hm?"

The trio's footsteps slowed down before they completely stopped because in the distance, they saw three men, sitting in the middle of the street on chairs, smoking cigarettes while talking and laughing.

An axe was placed beside each of their chairs.

Max could see the axe blades were red, covered in blood.

"Oh?" Right then, the trio noticed them too and became surprised.

Immediately, they stood up, hefted their axes on their shoulders and began slowly walking towards them, completely unworried about Max's group escaping.

"Where did you kids come from?" One of them, a thirty year old man, asked while taking a puff of cigarette, his eyes roaming over Max with an evaluating gaze.

From their attire and complexions, he could tell Max was their leader and had just found Noah and Naira and was taking them somewhere.

The other two also focused their gazes on him.

All three of them were healthy and looked strong. With their narrowed eyes and bloody axes on shoulders, they looked very fierce and intimidating.

Naira tightened her hold on Max's arm while Noah trembled in fear. Though he didn't recognise them by face, just like Max and Naira, he could tell they were from the group that slaughtered everyone in their neighborhood.

Max looked at them, his gaze calm, and asked, "You are the ones who pillaged and slaughtered everyone in the nearby blocks?"

As he asked, he activated the [Discerning Eyes].

He watched as following his question, all three, especially Tristen, the one who had questioned him, became angry.

"Heh, this pup is courageous. How rare!" Daniel remarked, his grip on the axe tightening.

"Pipe down." Tristen raised his hand, then asked Max, "I'm giving you the last chance. Answer—"

While speaking, they had walked closer and were now only 20 or so meters away from them.

The moment he began speaking, Max freed his hand from Naira's grasp, causing her to stare at him, panic flashing in her eyes.

Max glanced at her and couldn't help sigh inwardly. He could tell she had just assumed that he was going to flee, leaving them here.

"I'm here." He curtly said, and began walking toward the trio. Upon seeing that Max was completely disregarding his words, Tristen stopped speaking, his eyes narrowing dangerously.

"Don't kill him too quickly. I'll ask him again and see if he will still not answer." He said, his voice cold and cruel.

Swoosh!

As soon as he spoke up, Daniel rushed toward Max, a savage glint flashing in his eyes.

When he was only five meters away, he raised the axe and brought it down towards Max's left shoulder.

Given how sharp the axe was and how much strength Daniel had put behind the swing, if it landed, it would easily cleave through his shoulder.

Tristen had a cold look on his face, and Ryan had an indifferent one as they watched this. As for Noah and Naira, they looked horrified and Naira had just opened her mouth to cry out a warning when…

Swoosh!

Max, with no hint of panic or urgency in his eyes, stepped to the right, causing the axe to miss his shoulder entirely.

Then, as Daniel's pupils constricted and he was about to stop the axe from smashing into the ground, Max clenched his right fist and swung it in an arc.

BANG!

Crack!

Almost instantly, his fist connected to Daniel's face, and a loud banging sound along with the sound of bones cracking echoed.

Bang!

Right then, the axe slammed onto the stony road.

Daniel had blanked out from the punch and the recoil from the axe made his grip loosen.

Casually, Max grabbed its handle, and as Daniel staggered backwards and Tristen and Ryan's pupils constricted and they were about to rush over, he swung the axe in upward swing with one hand.

"STOP!"

Katcha!

The axe tore through Daniel's jaw and came out from the top of his head.

Splat! Splat!

As blood and gore splattered all over, Daniel fell to the ground, deader than dead.

Thud!

Max brought down the axe, and stared into Tristen's horrified eyes, and took a step forward.

Immediately, Tristen's forward momentum halted and he jerked backwards.

"Can you feel it?" Max asked, his voice devoid of all emotions.
