I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!

Chapter 138: You're Under Arrest

Meanwhile, at 'Leo's Totally Legitimate & Absolutely Not A Front' Bank

Leo was currently facing a crisis of his own. It wasn't the lack of money...it was the gratitude

This was the one thing he really hadn't expected. Only a few weeks had passed since his bank started giving out the interest free loans.

There was no background check of those that applied for a loan. From the richest to the poorest, everyone could apply.

In the last few weeks, the reputation of his bank had spread far and wide, even reaching earth.

Those who knew Leo, only smiled as they heard about this. In their eyes, this was exactly the kind of person that Leo was.

He only wanted to help the people. He wasn't greedy about money. Everyone knew that he was most probably losing money, yet he was doing it.

In their eyes, Leo had become a towering figure already. He was a rarity in the world filled with greed.

Leo didn't know about it, but even multiple fan clubs had been opened for him. As for the members, they weren't just from earth.

If Alpha Corp was previously popular on earth and amongst the wealthy of the space sector, then now it has become famous even amongst the commoners of the space sector.

The people from other worlds were really curious about Leo, to the point that many joined the fan club, only to become proper fans after listening about his selfless past.

Leo had started getting so many messages that he didn't even have a single moment of peace. He didn't know how his number got leaked, but this also brought a lot of problems as he still had to check his messages to ensure that he didn't miss anything important.

At the moment, Leo was sitting in his office at the Bank Headquarters. There were dark circles under his eyes, with multiple beeps resounding at every passing second.

The office sounded like a malfunctioning techno club.

Every sound represented another human being, and in many cases, aliens expressing their undying love for Leo's heroism.

At the same time, they didn't forget to add a small, "Can I have a little loan as well?"

Leo stared at the notifications, his vision blurring.

He had set his notification filter to "Urgent Only," but apparently, the universe's definition of urgent had shifted to include 'I just wanted to say you have beautiful earlobes' and 'Please bless my pet space goat.'

"Boss, you have a call on Line 4," his assistant, Sarah, said, poking her head through the door.

"Who is it?" Leo asked, his voice a little raspy.

"It's the 'Leo's Left Dimple' Fan Club from Sector 7. They want to know if you can attend their fan club's official inauguration."

Leo's face planted onto his desk. The wood felt cool against his forehead. "Tell them I'm busy. No, tell them I'm dead! Also, what the heck is with that name? Can't they find anything better for my fan club?"

Back on Earth, the Leo Phenomenon had reached even the great universities. Finance professors were tearing up their textbooks in fits of rage, unable to explain how a bank that didn't make money was able to run?

Meanwhile, social media was a war zone of positivity.

@EarthWatcher: "Leo is the only man who can run a bank and make it look like a charity event. My hero."

@FinanceBro99: "I tried to explain interest rates to my dad, and he just hit me with a 'Why can't you be more like Leo?' I'm 34, guys."

@LeoLover_Final: "I've sold my house and moved to a tent outside his bank. I don't even need a loan. I just want to breathe the same air as him. Maybe one day he will fall for my charm and marry me?"

Leo scrolled through a few more messages. One was from his high school gym teacher, who had previously called him 'the most likely to accidentally set himself on fire.'

"Leo, my boy! I always knew that 'C' in Physical Education stood for 'Charitable Genius'! Can you lend me 50 million credits? I want to build a stadium shaped like your head. No interest, right? Go Tigers!"

"I didn't mean for this to happen," Leo muttered to a half-eaten bagel.

Still, Leo didn't quite mind becoming popular. After all, popularity was also a kind of weapon for it to wield in the future.

The more he appeared like a saint, the less anyone was going to suspect him of pulling something nefarious.

The lobby was packed. It looked less like a financial institution and more like a religious meeting. People were weeping, hugging their family members. Almost everyone that even stepped foot in the bank, was leaving satisfied.

"Boss." Leo's assistant came into Leo's office and placed a stack of paper on his table before leaning in.

"We're running out of space in the lobby. Also, a group of grandmothers has started knitting a sweater in the corner. They say they won't leave without making you wear it."

"Tell them I prefer cashmere," Leo sighed, leaning back in his throne-like chair. "Also, can you bring me one of the chocolate chip ones? All this thinking is making me hungry."

The festive atmosphere was suddenly shattered when the front doors were kicked open forcefully

Vex, the high-ranking official from the Financial Watchdog Agency, marched in. He was surrounded by twelve grim-faced auditors carrying briefcases that looked like they contained portable execution devices.

"That's enough for you!" Vex said, pointing a shaking finger at Leo.

Through the gap in the door, many guests of the lobby had started paying attention to what was happening.

The lobby went silent. Even knitting grandmothers stood up.

Leo didn't even drop his cookie, and slowly asked, "Can I help you?"

"Silence!" Vex slammed a thick, holographic scroll onto Leo's desk. "Leo, or whatever your name is, you are under arrest for scamming innocent people, and running a fraud bank!"

Leo blinked in confusion. "I'm sorry. Did you just say fraud? Which fraud?"

"Calling it fraud would be an understatement. It's practically treason!" Vex yelled at Leo's face, even spit coming out of his mouth which Leo barely dodged like he was in some high profile action movie.

"You are under arrest! Anything you say, will definitely be used against you..."

Before Leo could even react, Vex placed cuffs on Leo's hands.

"Are you being serious right now?" Leo slowly stood up, even as he placed the half eaten cookie in his mouth.
