I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!

Chapter 143: Prison like home

Meanwhile at the unnamed and undocumented prison, Leo had whispered something in the ears of Warden number 001.

He didn't threaten the warden, or inquire about the prison. He only made the warden an offer...

The warden looked at Leo without much expression. It was as if he hadn't even heard what Leo had said.

He simply grabbed Leo's upper arm, and forcefully dragged him away.

"Think about it when you have time... I'm not in a hurry." Leo said, even though his arm was being pulled violently.

The Warden still didn't answer. He simply pulled Leo across the hallway, and even brought him down a few stairs. They went through what looked like a maze, which was so complicated that even Leo failed to memorize the exit route.

After what felt like hours, Leo was brought to the cell where he was being kept.

The warden opened a door on the floor that was noted only by a letter, H. Although Leo wasn't sure how far they had travelled down, he was certain that they were at least 30-40 floors underground.

"If this is called H, does that mean there are more floors underneath? Is there where you keep the more dangerous prisoners?" Leo asked, glancing at the distant stairs that were still taking down.

"You don't need to know that. You better worry about how you're going to survive here. If you're not careful, then let alone prisoners of lower floors, even the prisoners of this floor will eat you alive."

It had been a long time before the Warden finally said something.

Leo didn't understand why he was threatening him in such a way. What would other prisoners do to him when each of them would be in their individual cells?

At least that's what Leo thought until the door actually closed. And Leo finally saw what was happening on the other side of the door.

There were no individual prison cells where they were locked away from each other.

On the other side of the door, there was a giant hall that stretched as far as the eyes could see.

Inside the hall, he could see people in prisoner uniforms. There were at least hundreds of them, at least the ones that he could see.

Most of them looked extremely fierce, while some looked weak, yet gave him an even more dangerous feeling.

It was like a small gathering made of people from various planets, mostly ones that had done something that they shouldn't have, or offended powerful people.

Leo was certain that a few of them might actually deserve to be here, and could be criminals that might have slaughtered entire planets.

Almost all prisoners in the massive hall had a white metal collar around their throat. While Leo was wondering what it was, he heard something touch the back of his neck.

Before he could even react, the metal spread like nano particles from the back of his neck, forming a similar collar around his neck.

"It's an explosive dollar. It's position locked. You can move anywhere on this floor without worries, but if you ever leave this floor, it will blow up your head," the Warden said, before pushing Leo inside the hall, closing the door behind him.

Leo finally understood why there were no guards visible on this floor. With these collars, they truly couldn't cause trouble and attempt to escape.

It was due to these collars that the prisoners here had some semblance of freedom, but Leo still had a feeling that it was still an illusion.

"Is this thing really only geo locked? If I'm not wrong, they should still be able to control it remotely, and make it explode even if we don't leave this floor."

Although he couldn't see the cameras anywhere, he was certain that they would still be watched. As for how intently, that was the question.

"What a messed up place..." Leo said, lowering his head, as if he was really disappointed.

However, if one was to look at his eyes when he lowered his head, they would've seen a strange shine and greed visible in them.

The corner of his lips also formed what looked like the hint of a smirk.

He slowly turned around, hiding himself from any unknown cameras. His body started shivering as if he was crying, but that was only a false facade.

He opened his mouth, and raised his tongue, which was hiding two small rings beneath it.

"It was hard to pretend to be normal, but it looks like the practice came in handy. No one noticed it."

He had brought the two most important things with him. One was a ring he received from Selene, which could still save his life twice, unconditionally.

Last time, he was stabbed in the chest by his own bone shards but he managed to recover and survive because of the ring.

He wasn't certain if the ring could still bring him to his life if his heart wasn't stabbed, but his entire head was blown up instead.

He didn't even want to test it. However, any protection was better than no protection in a place like this.

As for the second time, it was even more important. It was something that he had received from Necropolis.

It was a storage ring with a large space within it. Inside that space were the clothes that he used as an Envoy, which had protective magic cast on it.

More importantly, Voldred's Sword was also kept in the storage ring.

He also carried other important things in the storage ring, especially the encrypted communication device that he had borrowed from the Galactic Union Leader.

It used its own frequency, so it couldn't be blocked by the prison's blockers. Although this place was cut off from the rest of the world, for Leo, it was no different than his home. He had everything that he wanted.

In fact, he even had a few probable power generators, a few gaming consoles, a luxurious bed, clothes, and many hot and cold delicacies that were frozen in time inside his ring.
