I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!

Chapter 142: The Dictator

Vex was in disbelief to hear that their most secure systems were hacked, and that too in such a short time.

"How fast until our security department can recover our systems?" he asked Henderson, but he didn't get the answer that he was expecting.

"I'm not certain, sir. But even if the systems can be recovered, it's already too late. In that time, the hackers would have made a copy of all our data. If they leak all that sensitive data..."

As Vex heard the answer, his expressions grew worse.

"Hmph, they must be trying to find any dirt they could, especially about me. If I'm not wrong, they either want to blackmail me after finding dirt on me."

From the initial moment of shock, his expressions twisted to that of a mockery.

"Did these fools really think that I would keep any incriminating data like that in the systems? If that's their plan, then they will be quite disappointed."

Let alone any incriminating details about himself, he hadn't even placed Leo's current whereabouts in the system.

He had always kept the records of such things offline, or let others handle it for him.

"It's fine. Let them struggle." Vex closed his eyes. "In any case, our security department will definitely recover the systems. So there's no need to worry."

He walked back, calming himself. He sat back on his seat, and instructed Henderson, "Take us back."

Vex was quite convinced that the problem was big. However, he didn't realize that he was only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

If it was a normal bank, the customers that had taken a loan would've been happy. If the bank itself shut down, they wouldn't need to return the loan or pay interest. What could be better?

Unfortunately, Leo's bank was different. Not only did it not charge any interest, but there were no conditions or consequences on not paying back the loan in time.

It was as if the entire system officially ran on trust and necessity of the customer.

Even the official policy of the bank was simply, "Pay us back when you can."

It was because of such a policy, that the customers didn't really have any incentives for the bank to close down. If anything, they made things worse in case they needed more money.

The news of Leo's arrest started spreading, further amplified by the fan clubs and the witnesses that had seen his arrest.

The digital wildfire didn't just spread... It exploded. Within an hour, the hashtag #WhereIsLeo, and #FreeLeo was trending across seventeen sectors.

"Sir," Henderson said, his voice now a hollow shell of its former self. "You said you didn't keep data in the system. And you're right. You didn't."

The place that reacted the fiercest, was the home planet of Leo, which was the most proud of his achievements.

The Hero Guild immediately sprung into action, and the representatives set on their way to the Watchdog Agency's headquarters to find out the reality and ensure Leo's safety.

Protests also erupted across the entire earth, asking their governments to ensure Leo's safety. Unfortunately, earth wasn't the only place where such protests were taking place.

On another planet, a young man was standing on the highest floor of a skyscraper, looking out. Outside his skyscraper, tens of thousands of people had gathered, asking them to protect Leo.

"Is that person called Leo, really this famous?" The young man raised a brow.

He had only recently heard about Leo, and didn't pay much attention to him. After all, he didn't need any loan. Only now did he start paying attention to the young man from earth.

"His popularity has really been on the rise, especially because of the strange way he ran the bank."

"Hah... Interesting. Do you think I should intervene?" The young man asked, his expressions that of subtle pondering.

"My Lord, you shouldn't involve yourself in this matter. After all, it's not even a matter of our space sector, but the neighbouring one. It might not be good for you."

"Hmmm..." The young man smirked, tilting his head sideways.

"You are already considered a dictator by our space sector. From head to toe, we are drowning in sanctions. It would be hard to interfere in the matters of other space sectors."

The young man heard his assistant's words and nodded slowly. Everything that his followers had said was true. But still, his interest had been piqued by Leo's matter.

"Agreed. But still... I'm starting to take an interest in him. Imagine if a dictator saves a rising star who holds a lot of goodwill. Wouldn't you say that would help us?" he asked.

"You... Do you want to use that person?" The assistant asked, only for the young man to smile.

"How did you think I managed to react this point in point? Would I have become a dictator of one of the oldest middle tier planets without using people?" The young man answered, without looking back.

The assistant didn't answer. He only gulped heavily, before remembering everything that this young man had done to take the throne.

It was true that the person before him looked like a young man, who barely had any life experience. However, he wasn't a naive fool.

He was the youngest child of a prominent family on this planet. He wasn't even seen as the next heir to the business family, yet he had managed to surpass that.

It was even said that he had killed his entire family to take over the company, before starting on his quest to take over the entire planet.

That was why the young man had gained the title of a brutal dictator before he even turned thirty.

"I will find out everything I can," the young man nodded as he slowly took his leave.

Once the assistance left, the room returned to silence.

The young man looked out the window, glancing at the people that had gathered outside his skyscraper, looking like ants from this height.

"A man that people love so much that they are even willing to ask for help from a dictator that they hate... How amusing…"
