The lifeless flame monster, or The Remnant, turned his head towards them and asked softly, "Why would I be scared of death when I am already dying?"
Rion chuckled and said, "What makes you think that we would fall for your words?"
The Remnant didn't answer. He stared at Rion for a few moments before his gaze shifted towards Haden, and he asked, "They will be coming for all of you."
Haden's eyes darkened instantly, his grip tightened across Rion's arms, and Rion fell silent at the mention of them.
'Just who are they?' He questioned himself, but right now, he couldn't let himself think of anything else but the ways to torture the bastard that had caused so much pain to his people.
"Why do you keep speaking of them?" He asked with a disgusted expression on his face.
The Remnant looked at him with narrowed eyes. "They are our enemies—"
Rion cut him off. "Our? From when you are a part of us faithless?"
He gritted his teeth and spat, "And even if they are enemy... You are also one of them."
As soon as those words reached The Remnant, the flames flared in accordance with his fury.
However, his eyes stayed calm or at least they appeared so. He nodded faintly and spoke with a chuckle, "You are right, I am also one of your enemies..."
His eyes smiled cruelly, and he said in a chilling voice, "So won't it be better if I help my companions a little?!"
Rion and Haden's expressions turned serious. Haden let go of his shoulder and lunged at The Remnant; however, he had no aura, and he was already fatigued from fighting the flame monster for so long.
The Remnant chuckled and whispered in a victorious tone, "[Eternal Chain] unseal..."
The chain revolving around the Corrupted Abysmal Flame fell. An unimaginable amount of purple flame shot out of him and crashed into Haden and Rion, exploding both of them away from him.
But before they could spread too far, The Remnant raised both of his hands towards the sky, and the purple flames that were spreading outwards began to fly upwards.
Rion crashed into the ground, and Haden was atop him, "F-Father..." he mumbled desperately, his eyes widening in horror.
He shook Haden, but he had fallen unconscious after shielding Rion from most of the impact.
Rion's hand brushed across his burnt back and he glared at The Remnant whose flames were ascending to the sky.
He softly pushed Haden away from himself and whispered in his ear, "Do not worry, Father. I will take care of this..."
He pushed himself up the ground, and his gaze fell on the ancient chain that was The Remnant's true body.
He gritted his teeth and began to walk towards it with furious embers burning in his eyes.
The slight burns across his body healed as he made his way towards the chain, and suddenly, a crack echoed throughout the mountains, followed by a sonorous ripple.
His head shot upwards, and his gaze fell on the purple flames that seemed to touch the sky.... no, they didn't just seem like it, they were actually touching the sky or the terrorising barrier that trapped the Dhaevrak within the red and black mountains.
His eyes widened in disbelief as the sky rippled continuously with a low hum resounding throughout the mountains.
Suddenly, serpentine cracks from the point of collision and with a sudden motion, something rushed into the barrier.
Rion tore his gaze away from the barrier and dashed unevenly towards the chain.
Huffing for air, he fell by the chain, and just as his fingers brushed the chain, a blue screen appeared before him.
[Ding!]
[Located one of the seven singularities: Eternal Chain!]
[Extract Singularity?]
[Yes / No]
"Y-Yes..." he responded weakly.
[Extracting Singularity...]
Suddenly, his grip tightened around the chain, cracks began to spread across it, and similar cracks appeared on The Remnant's body.
The Remnant gaze shot towards him, fissures widening in the sky, and he stated while laughing like a madman, "Even if I die, I won't lose.."
Rion ignored him, his grip tightening even further, and with one more crack, the chain broke apart into black dust.
"W-What?!" His eyes turned grim.
The black dust floated into the air, flew towards his arm and sank deep into it.
A black mark — a tattoo of a coiling chain appeared around his arm, and a blue screen flickered before his eyes.
[You have obtained Singularity (Eternal Chain)!]
[Ding!]
[Lucky spin is in effect!]
"Huh...? Is this even possible?" Rion wondered, already pushing his body upright.
[Congratulations! You have won X100 rewards!]
[You have obtained Singularity (Absolute Seal)!]
His eyes brightened at the message, and he mumbled, "Assimilate Absolute Seal."
[Assimilating...]
Rion dashed forward, his fatigue decreasing with the euphoric sensation of assimilation coursing through his body.
As he neared The Remnant, the heat and pressure emitting from the Corrupted Abysmal Flame struck him like a battering ram.
Gritting his teeth, he pushed himself towards The Remnant, his skin burning and reforming within moments.
He raised his left hand that had the chain mark and continued forward, sweat streaming down his bare body.
Just as he was about to reach The Remnant, the barrier shattered, and a heavy pressure descended throughout the mountains.
"W-what is going on?!" Rion mumbled in disbelief as his feet sank into the ground.
The Remnant laughed, his eyes shifted towards Rion, and he said in an ecstatic tone, "This is the end, Little king..."
Rion growled and leapt forward. His hand began to burn but he didn't move away, and the Remnant who was controlling the Corrupted Abysmal Flame wasn't able to dodge.
Rion's hand plunged through The Remnant's chest, and he shouted, "[Absolute Seal]!"
Confusion covered The Remnant, the chain mark coiling Rion's arm slithered out of his hand and coiled around the Corrupted Abysmal Flame.
A blue screen appeared before him.
[You have sealed the Corrupted Abysmal Flame!]
Rion chuckled, expecting The Remnant to be shocked, but The Remnant's next words shook him to his core.
"I can still take one of yours with me."
Rion moved instantly, appearing between him and Haden.
Seeing that, The Remnant chuckled, "When did I mention your father?"
Rion's eyes widened beyond what they could.
The Remnant raised his left arm, a small bead of pure demonic energy shot out of it, and his body began to crumble into nothing with his last chuckle resounding like a curse.
"YOU BASTARD!" Rion cursed, his gaze shifted towards the bead.
He pushed the small amount of aura he had regenerated into his feet and immediately followed behind the bead.
Within a few moments, he jumped out of the crater. His form seemingly vanished as he zipped through the scorched forest.
But even then, he was too slow.
His eyes widened as the main battlefield neared, and there, the warriors lay or sat on the ground with tired smiles — They had won.
His lips parted to alert them, but just as the words were about to escape, the last scraps of regenerated aura flickered out.
He fell and rolled onto the ground, his face sinking into the withered soil.
"No no no!" he cried as he tried to push himself off the ground, but his body had already done too much.
He lifted his head, his eyes followed the bead and colour drained from his face as he saw the person who was about to be hit.
"NOOOOOOOOOOO!"
He screamed with all of his strength, but he wasn't loud enough for the warriors to hear, and the bead finally reached its target — Dora, descendant of the God of Travel.
