Tribal Sign-In: Immortal At The Start

Chapter 78: Priority

Rion continued to try taking out the purple crystal from the grade three null cores, but all of his attempts were pointless. Just as the aura even neared it, the crystal would explode, and nothing of it would be left.

It was as if he were trying to blend two things of opposite nature.

Annoyed, he heaved a sigh and muttered, "I have to calm down; too much haste would only lead to waste."

'Inventory,' he thought, and it flickered before him.

He no longer had any grade three null core, but he still had the low and lowest grade ones.

His eyes shone as a sudden thought appeared in his mind, and he mumbled, "Aren't they graded based on how dense the smoke within them is? What if I just trap all of the smoke together... would it turn into a crystal?"

He didn't know if that was possible, but he had to try everything.

According to Haden, the purple miasma forced one's body to go beyond its mortal limits, and immortality was also beyond that limit.

"Let's try," he mumbled and stood up while rubbing his palms together and walked near the cave's wall.

"This would be a good spot." He crouched near the wall and took out his dagger.

Fwoosh!

Golden flames appeared around the dagger's blade and began to solidify. A moment later, a solid layer of golden aura appeared on the dagger's blade, and he began to carve a wide hole in the ground.

A few minutes later, he finished carving a square hole and moved a rock as big as the hole towards him using the aura telekinesis.

Swoosh!

The rock flew towards him, and he caught it in a single hand while rubbing his chin in thought.

"I have to make sure that none of it seeps out," he mumbled and carved the rock into a lid for the hole.

However, instead of continuing, he stood up and mumbled while dusting himself off, "I need to get the dead wood from the purple fog forest, otherwise it would just wither the ground and the walls."

He looked up at the sunlight filtering through the hole and mumbled in irritation, "But if I go now, others would see me entering the purple forest, and I don't want to get into any trouble before having a method to control the miasma."

He heaved a defeated sigh and let his mind wander for a moment before he said in his head, 'System.'

"Fifteen and a half years..." he whispered.

That much time had passed from the day of his fateful reincarnation, and a lot had already changed for him; he who used to be alive just because of modern technology was nowhere near it.

He no longer had his entertainment shows, anime or novels; instead, he had a life filled with far more precious gifts.

He now had parents who actually cared and friends he had never learned to have, which had made it difficult for him to truly connect with anyone in the tribe until Dora forced him into being her friend — because, according to her, he was different… or, as the younger Dora liked to put it, he was simply 'weird.'

That day, he didn't just make a friend, but he himself had changed. Dora's defiant nature had rubbed off on him and made him see beyond what others allowed him to.

Even in his past life, he had never experienced what other children of his age did, so he didn't know what they considered normal or weird. The things he had watched or read did mention what the majority considered common sense or stupidity.

But for him, they were just simple words.

A chuckle escaped his lips as the thoughts of his previous and current life once again began to resurface.

'It won't hurt to see it for one last time,' he thought and closed his eyes.

"Hoh..." he exhaled deeply and mumbled, "Illusion Zone."

Suddenly, the world around him changed; he opened his eyes, and they fell on a white room with a hospital bed placed by the wall and devices flanking both sides of it.

However, these devices weren't completely similar, and one could guess that they weren't real, as a few of them were flickering and a few were translucent.

It wasn't a flaw in the illusion — Illusion Zone worked by gripping a person's conscious and subconscious minds at once. But Rion's two minds were no longer in sync, making him partially immune.

He clicked his tongue. Even his own ability couldn't fully fool him anymore.

"Should I be happy or sad?" He questioned himself and dismissed the illusion.

There was no need for him to cling to his past life, not like it was worth clinging to.

He picked up his spear, which was placed by the wall, and walked out of the cave.

Just as he stepped out, the warm sunlight caressed him like a silk cloth, and he made his way towards the camp.

His steps weren't as slow as before, and his curious eyes were not as curious as before.

He had already seen all of this; he didn't want to fall into the embrace of nature, not yet, at least.

The part of him that chose to live in nature before working towards his goals was being suppressed by the golden flame that burned into the core of his existence.

The wind scattered his hair, but he didn't stop to further feel its freshness; he didn't stop to check out the small creatures that rolled on the ground.

Not because all of this had lost its importance, but because now he was able to prioritise what he actually wanted to do.

He smiled as his mind was no longer telling him that he could wait or that he could do it whenever he wanted to.

"I missed this sense of control..." he whispered.
