"Mom, I love him."
"It does not matter what you like or love. You are a part of the Telegard family. Do you know the reason why we are as powerful as we are?" Jerrica asked
"Yes, I do, and I have no interest in participating in your breeding program. I love the man I love, and I will not follow the stupid rules of this stupid family." Jessa stormed out of her mother's office.
Jerrica sighed. "You will understand one day, my child."
When Jessa approached her mother, Jin's grandmother, about who she wanted to marry, Jerrica did not accept it. Their family had such powerful genes that they had to have at most two kids per family to not disrupt the balance of power in their country.
Jerrica had already talked to a family, one with powerful genes, to marry their son off to her daughter, but Jessa went against that by getting with a guy from humble roots.
Since their argument, they hadn't seen each other in over a year, but Jerrica still kept her eyes on her daughter. When she found out that she was pregnant, she had no choice but to accept that he daughter would not follow the rules of their house.
"Did you come to berate me?" Jessa asked, seeing her mother for the first time in over a year with a pregnant belly.
"You're my daughter, and as much as I don't like what you did, I am here to support you. Besides, you'll be having my grandchild, and I'd be a terrible mother and grandmother if I don't help out."
Jessa, who was still on high alert, smiled, feeling relieved. As much as she disagreed with her mother, she still loved her very much.
"Have you thought of a name?" Jerrica asked
"Yeah. If it's a girl, I want to name her Jessica. If it's a boy, I want to name him Jin, after his father." Jessa smiled.
"Jessica is my mother's name." Jerrica smiled.
"I know."
"Where is the father of this child anyway?"
"Mom, he's my fiancé. And he's inside cooking."
"I think it's time I met him."
Jessa sighed. "Just don't scare him away."
"Hmph, do you think I'd do such a thing?" Jerrica felt offended
"Yes."
"It's your own children who betray you."
Years later, after Jin was born, Jerrica stopped caring about their family's rules and fully accepted love being a factor in choosing who the people of their family wanted to marry.
"Grandma, Grandma! Look! I made a drawing of you, me, and mommy!" Jin smiled, handing the drawing to Jerrica.
"Oh wow! This is amazing, Jin! You drew this all by yourself?"
"Yes! I'm going to be an artist when I grow up!"
"Hahaha! Didn't you say you wanted to be an astronaut last week?"
Jin paused. "Uhh. I don't remember. But I'm gonna be an artist now!"
"Well, just make sure to give grandma a tour of your art gallery when you grow up, okay?"
"Okay! I love you, Grandma!"
"Fufu! I love you too, my little pumpkin."
"Look at them, Jinsen. Who would have thought that my mom would be that loving?" Jessa smiled.
"W-Well, your mother was always a great person. It's only natural that she loves our son, right?"
"Pwahahaha! Sure, man."
"And why do you call me Jinsen?"
"Because it's short for Jin senior, goofy."
"O-Oh. I've always wondered about that for the past six years."
Four years later, when Jin turned 10, tragedy struck. He was riding with his mother and father in their car, going to an amusement park that Jin wanted to go to. It had just opened up, and Jessa promised Jin that if he got good grades, she would take him there.
To Jin, that was like asking him to sleep, because even before getting his memories, he was still a genius. His past lives were bleeding into his current life, even if he wasn't fully aware at the time.
"Mommy! Let's ride the biggest roller coaster there! The one that shoots up to the moon!"
"Haha, okay, son. You know it goes super high, right?"
"Yes! It will be fun!"
"He takes after you because that's scary." Jinsen smiled.
"It's not scary, Daddy, Mommy is here! When I was with Brittany and Aunty Anyssa, she made us fly in the sky!" Jin shouted.
"Haha, you're right, mommy is here, isn't she?" Jinsen kissed Jessa on the cheek.
"Oh yeah. Remember that we have to—"
BOOM
Jessa couldn't finish her words as something had exploded next to or on their vehicle. She didn't know what had happened, but she knew she had to get her family to safety.
Before the car could fully flip over and crash on the ground, Jessa unbuckled her seatbelt, then unbuckled her husband's own, pushing him out of the car. Because of her speed, everything was moving slowly.
She raced to the back of the car, grabbed Jin, then jumped out, grabbing Jinsen as she did, and landed safely.
"W-What happened?" Jinsen asked
"I don't know. But here, take Jin and get to safety. I will find out what's going on."
Jinsen nodded, not questioning his wife, and started running with their son.
"Well, well, well. Look at what we have here?" A woman wearing a mask said, walking over to Jessa.
"Who are you?" She asked the woman.
"Your downfall." The woman replied while more women appeared around her.
"Heh, please. If you think you can stop me, then you're greatly mistaken." Jessa wasted no time and blitzed all of them, vibrating her hand through the chests of many of them before getting attacked by another speedster.
"Don't think you're the only one who can move fast around here!" The woman smiled
"I don't just move fast, I can think fast as well." Jessa tapped the woman's chest and stole all of her speed. She then kicked her so hard and fast that the woman's body turned into mush.
"Make sure she dies today, girls!" The other women caught up and started attacking her.
Over where Jin and Jinsen were, Jinsen was running to safety, finding a police station where he called for help.
"Emergency! Our car exploded! My son, please get him checked out. He could have been injured from the blast."
Police rushed over to him and asked him about everything that went down.
"Also, please give me your name." An officer asked
"My name is Jinsen Telegard, and this is my son Jin Telegard. M-My wife's name is Jessa Telegard."
"Jessa, eh?" The woman smiled and held her hand forward.
"What are you—" Before Jinsen could fully comprehend what could happen, a jet of flames rained down on him.
His life flashed before his eyes, and the first thing he did was shield Jin with his own body. He cried in pain as he was burned alive, the pain excruciating, but he held on for his son.
Before he passed, he managed to ping an alert from his phone that went to Jessa, and right after that, he died, still protecting Jin.
Over where Jessa was, she had killed all of the women after her and called her mom. She was on the phone with her when she got Jinsen's alert. Her heart raced, her mind scrambled, and she started to panic.
"N-No!" She ran as fast as she could to the police station to make sure her family was safe, but when she arrived, she was too late.
"J-Jinsen! No! Nooo! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
"Ahh, yes, Jessa," Erosa said with a growl.
"You! You bastard! Where is my son?!"
"Probably burned alive with his father." She grinned.
Jessa snapped. "I'll—"
"M-Mommy?" Jin woke up, not aware of what had happened.
"Oh, he's alive. Kill him," Erosa commanded all the officers in the police station.
"NO!" Jessa grabbed Jin, but the moment she did, Erosa activated a power-dampening field, rending Jessa powerless.
"Don't hate me too much, this was orders from higher up. You understand how this goes. Sorry about that." Erosa pulled out a laser gun and fired into Jessa's chest.
"J-Jin." Jessa voiced before falling onto the ground.
Jin, who was awake now, saw everything: his father's burned body, and his mother being gunned down right in front of him. It was the most painful sight he had ever seen. The only reason he didn't die was that the Aegis Corps arrived at this time, forcing Erosa to flee.
This was the moment when Jin's past memories awakened, but the strain on his mind was too much, and so he passed out on top of his mother.
When Jerrica arrived and learned everything, she was distraught. The pain of losing her daughter weighed heavily on her mind so much that she couldn't even bring herself to take care of Jin.
Eventually, Jin was taken in by Anyssa, where he grew up to be who he is now."
In the present, as Jerrica watched Jin take off into the sky, she sighed. "I'm a terrible grandmother."
