Karl advanced toward the corpses of the two bosses, grabbing the [Moon Shaman Scepter] and the [Moon Blade] from their bodies, along with every other item scattered around them.
The drops were still glowing faintly with the after-effects of the defeated bosses, and he collected them quickly and efficiently.
Thankfully, his inventory was empty from selling everything before, so he had more than enough space to store whatever he picked up now.
He didn't have to worry about running out of room, so he took every single thing without hesitation.
"Holy shit..."
"Did he just destroy the two bosses immediately, even though all these teams struggled so much?"
The players who had been fighting earlier stood frozen, almost unable to process what they just witnessed.
Karl had appeared, unleashed his spells, and wiped out both bosses faster than they could even recover from the last attack the knight landed on their tank.
They had received a small amount of experience and some Lives, since they contributed to the kill of the [Moon Shaman], but that was the limit of their rewards.
In [Gods Ascension], loot always went to the player who dealt the most damage, and that person was Karl by an overwhelming margin.
That was why everything lying on the ground belonged to him now.
"We appreciate the help," the leader of one of the teams said.
He was the same player who had been tanking the [Moon Knight General] earlier, barely managing to hold its attacks back.
He stepped forward and bowed his head slightly.
"We wouldn't have made it without—"
But Karl cut him off immediately.
He didn't even look at the man, simply turning as he began walking away.
"Don't thank me. In this forsaken place, don't trust others so easily."
His tone was calm, but the meaning was sharp.
Every player there understood it instantly.
This was only the beginning of [Gods Ascension].
The early floors were not meant to be comfortable or forgiving, and if they were already struggling against two bosses here, then the later floors would crush them.
Much worse things were coming.
"Understood," the leader replied, nodding seriously at Karl's warning.
He turned to his own team and raised his voice.
"Alright, then. Team, let's move!"
Karl didn't know any of these people, so he didn't waste a second paying attention to them.
They weren't allies, they weren't enemies, they were simply other players in the same tower.
His goal was to move forward, not mingle around with random teams.
And so, much like he did on the [First Floor], he stepped toward the exit gate and passed through the veil of darkness that separated one floor from the next.
Just like that, he was transported into the new area.
Ding!
---
[You have arrived at the "Third Floor" of the "Moon Tower"]
[Lives loss rate: 25.]
---
The moment Karl appeared on the [Third Floor], a loud howl echoed from above.
HOOOOOOOOWLLLLLLL!
The sound boomed through the corridors, vibrating through the walls and making the torches flicker with silver flames.
It was the same howl he heard when entering the [Second Floor], but this time, the sound was much louder.
It resonated deep in his bones, almost like a pulse of energy trying to reach him.
He tilted his head slightly.
'Am I the only one hearing that thing?' he thought, narrowing his eyes, 'This howl can't be nothing.'
He stood still for a few seconds, trying to catch any more signs of it, but the sound faded.
Regardless, he shook his head and focused back on the environment around him.
He had more important things to pay attention to.
'This floor is the start of the real deal, after all.'
The halls here looked different from the previous floor.
The carvings on the walls were no longer sparse or simple.
Now, every section of stone was filled with drawings and reliefs that resembled twisted, demonic shapes.
Many of the carvings depicted the moon with different faces: smiling, weeping, screaming, glaring.
The torches placed along the walls all burned with a faint silver fire that illuminated the surroundings with an eerie glow.
Karl walked forward, remembering how this floor worked.
The [Second Floor] was simple enough: monsters spawned, people fought, and they could keep moving freely.
But the [Third Floor] had a different system.
Not only did bosses spawn normally, but in order to reach the [Fourth Floor], players needed to find the [Fourth Floor Key].
And the only way to get that key was to defeat one of the bosses that carried it.
Basically, every player or group had to take down at least one boss to move onward.
Of course, most players didn't even bother trying.
Going to the [Fourth Floor] was a death sentence.
That floor held the [Moon Skeleton King], a boss so strong that almost nobody could defeat it.
And for the extremely rare few teams that somehow managed thanks to raw power or perfect coordination… none ever attempted the [Fifth Floor].
'This should be the [Moon Sect]'s floor,' Karl thought, 'But I should be fine.'
Every floor of the [Moon Tower] actually had a name linked to what it had in store.
He remembered the names of the floors he had seen so far.
---
[First Floor: Challenge Tutorial]
[Second Floor: Lunar Ascent]
[Third Floor: Moon Sect's Nest]
[Fourth Floor: The Moon Skeleton King]
[Fifth Floor: ???]
---
Based on this floor's name, Karl now remembered why the carvings looked so eerie.
The [Moon Sect] was connected to the moon energy that influenced this tower.
[Moon City] didn't have any kind of sect on the outside, but according to the [Moon Temple]'s description, there were beings that worshipped the moon.
And Karl knew well that the moon in this world was nothing like Earth's moon.
It had power. Real power.
He didn't know what kind yet, but he could feel it.
As he walked deeper into the halls, he suddenly heard voices in the distance.
"I heard something."
"Must be another one of those 'humans' coming to disrupt us."
"We can easily get rid of them. Let's move."
Karl immediately gripped his staff.
These voices definitely weren't human.
And as he had already learned, there were hundreds of races inside [Gods Ascension], many of which weren't friendly.
Some could be neutral, some aggressive, but friendly races were extremely rare.
Oliver, the one that had given Karl advice before, was one of the rare exceptions.
Karl stayed still inside the hall he had spawned in, waiting.
A few seconds later, three figures stepped out from around the corner, looking directly at him.
"Hah!"
"It indeed is a human."
All three wore dark and silver cloaks. Each one held a scepter.
Their skin was grey, and small dark horns rose from the tops of their heads.
Their eyes glowed faintly with silver energy.
---
[Low-Level Moon Sect Member (Level 22)]
[Rank: Uncommon]
[HP: 80,000]
---
Karl had never learned much about the [Moon Sect], but seeing their levels and stats told him enough.
If these were "low-level members," then this faction was much more important than he initially assumed.
The three beings stepped closer.
"Eliminate him."
"Guard the way leading to the [Moon Skeleton King]. We cannot allow them to disrupt him any further."
"Stupid humans. They truly don't understand anything about this world."
Karl didn't reply to any of their words.
He simply stood there, calmly staring at them as they prepared their weapons.
The three of them clearly intended to attack him without hesitation.
Karl lifted his staff.
And then...
Storm of Lightning! Cataclysmic Fireball
