BOOM!
-30,000! -30,000! -30,000!
Since all of the [Low-Level Moon Sect Members] were between level 22 and 24, none of them were capable of taking Karl's [Lunar Beam] head-on.
The blast tore straight through their defenses, and the moment it hit, their bodies evaporated like mist under a burning sun.
The entire hall shook from the force of the spell, dust falling from the ceiling, cracks crawling along the stone.
And when the light finally faded, Karl looked forward and saw only one figure left standing.
It was the [Low-Level Moon Sect General].
His HP pool was big enough to survive the beam, but even then, he'd taken heavy damage.
The silver glow of the beam still flickered around him like tiny sparks, and his breathing was sharp and strained.
In [Gods Ascension], you only died when your HP hit zero, but damage still affected your body.
NPCs from different races and players all followed the same basic rules.
Even if they didn't die instantly, they could still get dazed, stunned, or completely overwhelmed.
"Hah…" the general stumbled, his knees shaking before he dropped down on one. He grabbed the ground to steady himself, "This is…"
Frostbite Crystals!
Karl summoned the five icy crystals out of thin air and launched them straight at him.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
-11,250! -11,250! -11,250!
All five slammed into the general without mercy, shards of ice scattering over the cracked stone floor.
His HP dropped even lower, and Karl could see him barely staying conscious.
The general's eyes were losing focus.
His grip on his scepter was loose. His body was trembling from shock.
Karl narrowed his eyes.
'He's at his limit,' Karl thought. 'Perfect opportunity.'
He didn't know anything about the [Fifth Floor], and if anyone in this tower had information, it was this guy.
He might be called a "low-level" general, but within the Moon Tower, he clearly held authority over this entire floor.
And so, Karl decided to take advantage of the moment.
Storm of Lightning!
Karl unleashed another spell.
A violent wave of lightning erupted through the hall and smashed straight into the general.
Zap!
-36,240!
And then—
Ding!
["Low-Level Moon Sect General" has been stunned.]
Karl rushed forward immediately.
He closed the distance in seconds, knocked the scepter from the general's hand, and slammed him against the wall.
Karl pressed the end of his staff to the general's chest, close enough that one spell would end everything right there.
The general looked up slowly, knowing he had no chance left.
"Hah…" he laughed weakly, "I never met a human quite as strong as you at this stage…"
"Give me information about the [Fifth Floor]," Karl said. "Anything. Even small details."
Karl doubted the general would talk, but it didn't hurt to try.
Without a scepter, the general couldn't cast any spell at all, so Karl held all the power here.
But the moment Karl mentioned the [Fifth Floor], the general's grin faded.
"There's no point," he muttered, shaking his head. "You won't be able to defeat the king of this tower anyway."
"I will," Karl replied calmly. "I want to know what's after."
The general stared into Karl's eyes for several seconds.
It was like he was trying to decide whether answering was worth anything at all.
"What is at the top of the [Moon Tower]…" he began slowly. "We… don't try to understand it."
Karl's expression tightened.
"…?"
"It doesn't reason with anyone," the general said, "It will tear apart anything it sees. Nobody has ever beaten it."
Karl's eyes narrowed at that. The general wasn't lying.
His voice shook slightly, and there was real fear behind it.
"We stopped trying to communicate with it a long time ago," the general continued. "So we don't know much more."
Karl kept staring at him for a few more seconds.
But it was clear that was the end of the information.
The general had nothing else to offer. Karl sighed.
Cataclysmic Fireball!
BOOM!
-45,300!
The fireball detonated point-blank, ending the general instantly.
Ding!
---
[You have killed x8 "Low-Level Moon Sect Members (Level 22-24)"]
[You have killed "Low-Level Moon Sect General (Level 25)"]
[You have gained 246,000 experience points!]
[Congratulations, you have leveled up to Level 19 + Level 20 + Level 21!]
[All your attributes have increased by 15, and you have gained 15 free points to distribute.]
[You have gained 13 Evolution Points!]
[You have gained 225 Lives!]
---
"Damn!"
Because those monsters were all way higher level than Karl, especially the general, he gained a ridiculous amount of experience.
Three level-ups in one go wasn't something most players would ever see.
And on top of that, he got a solid chunk of EP and a huge number of lives.
[Free Points to Allocate: 30.]
[Current Evolution Points: 49.]
'Nice.'
Karl immediately placed half of the points into [Spirit] and the other half into [Agility].
As for his EP, he was now extremely close to having enough to evolve one of his legendary-rank skills.
But for now, he focused on the loot.
He walked over and picked up several [Moon Sect Member Scepters] off the ground, and then grabbed the [Moon Sect General Scepter] as well.
He stored them all in his backpack.
Even though scepters and staffs functioned similarly in the game, they were class-restricted.
Only priests could use scepters, and only mages could use staffs.
So these weren't weapons Karl could equip.
Still, they might sell for something.
Then Karl stepped toward the corpse of the general to check if there was anything else on it, and immediately froze.
'Oh shit.'
He bent down and grabbed the item lying beside the corpse.
The [Fourth Floor Key].
---
[Fourth Floor Key: Allows the user to open the gate leading to the fourth floor of the "Moon Tower" and access it.]
---
"Got it."
This was exactly what players needed to progress deeper into the tower.
But most people discarded the key as soon as they got it, since you couldn't trade it, and almost nobody wanted to deal with the [Moon Skeleton King].
Karl turned around and headed toward the path he had blown open with the [Lunar Beam], figuring it might lead to an exit.
And luckily enough, after ten minutes and a few monsters later…
Ding!
[You have gained 1 Evolution Point!][You have gained 125 Lives!]
Karl stepped in front of the floor's exit gate.
It looked like the one on the second floor, except this one had a silver lock attached to it.
Without hesitation, he took out the [Fourth Floor Key] and placed it inside.
Click!
[Player "Oblivion" is alone.]
The gate only opened for the person using the key.
Teams could share access, but Karl was solo, so it responded only to him.
Ding!
[You are allowed to access the "Fourth Floor"]
The gate creaked open, revealing a dark curtain of mist inside.
Karl stepped through immediately.
Fwish!
He was transported to the next floor in an instant.
The chamber that appeared around him was massive, ancient, and different from any of the previous floors.
Torches lined the walls, and bookshelves were stacked everywhere.
Above him hung a large silver replica of the moon, acting as a chandelier that filled the entire room with pale light.
'It's here,' Karl thought. 'Better be careful.'
The chamber was quiet, too quiet.
And even though nothing stood inside for now, Karl knew that wouldn't last long.
He raised his staff and prepared himself.
Ding!
[You have arrived at the "Fourth Floor" of the "Moon Tower"]
[Lives loss rate: 50.]
Then—
BOOM!
A massive explosion erupted from deeper inside the chamber.
Karl gripped his staff tightly as silver mist rose into the air, and through that mist… something appeared.
A towering figure.
Crimson eyes glowing like pools of blood.
And the moment its gaze met his—
Ding!
[The "Moon Skeleton King" has appeared.]
