"Alright, let's get this signing over with," Aren said.
Flo summoned the contract again. Aren caught it along with the quill. He started reading through the contract.
All that it stated was that they would share a master and servant relationship. As long as Aren treated the summon right with respect, then his summon would lay down its life for him at any time. Their contract was till death did them part.
But he wasn't allowed to actively put the spirit in situations that would cause the spirit to lose its life.
In all honesty, the contract went back and forth, but what Aren picked from it was that the spirit was there to serve him till death and that was it. He wasn't allowed to try and get the spirit killed, but the spirit would also try to save Aren with its own life. It was the choice of Flo to do that.
If Aren died, the spirit wouldn't die. It would suffer backlash, but ultimately it would be free to live from then on, unless their connection grew deeper over time and then his death would be lethal to the spirit.
"I have no plans to get really close to you, because my life is pretty important," Flo said, then flew closer. "Now sign and let's get this over with," she said, urging him.
Aren grabbed the quill. Since he had already read it, he had no issues signing the contract. When it was done, the contract burst into light particles and vanished.
"Great, now we are bound together," Flo said. She floated around the room in a relaxed manner, her short hands behind her head.
"What exactly is your ability or power?" he asked her. She paused mid flight, then looked at him. The purple fur on her body lit up in a beautiful glow.
"My power is this," she said, and then the room changed. Everything rearranged and turned into something else until they were standing at the top of a very tall mountain.
The wind blew against his skin, cold and fast. The air was thin and clear. He could see the clouds, and as he looked below, he saw a vast land that stretched out, grass covering the entire ground, leading to forests that stretched even further.
"Whoa, where is this?" Aren asked.
"A place I made up," Flo replied.
"Wait, so this place doesn't exist?"
"No it doesn't. I just used whatever knowledge I had and created this. This is an illusion. Let me show you more," she said, and then the scene shifted again, and he was now inside what looked like a battleground.
Battles ripped all around. He saw men, ogres, giant warriors, beings that flew through the skies like gods and caused destruction.
It felt so real, like they were actually standing in the middle of a battlefield.
Finally, Flo returned them back to the room.
"So that's my ability, illusions. Pretty cool, right?" she asked.
"Yeah, I can't deny that, it was awesome. I do have some questions though."
"What are they?"
"Is it that easy for you to create such large scale illusions? You didn't even break a sweat," Aren said.
"Normally yes, such illusions come easy, but it gets harder with intricacy," Flo stated.
"Hmm? I don't understand."
"Well for one, you knew it was an illusion, which already defeats the point of all illusion. That knowledge you had already made it easy for me to make one, since I didn't have to make you believe this illusion is reality.
"There are more senses than sight, hearing, smell, and even touch. There is taste. There is the sense of reality. Yup, I said it, the sense of reality.
"When you are inside a place that doesn't feel real, it causes your mind to run into a panic, and this panic starts making it see what couldn't be seen before, and then the illusion falls apart.
"For me to make sure that an illusion works, I'll have to ensure I work it out for the brain to not feel out of place at all.
"For instance, the bed in this room is missing. It has been ever since we finished that first illusion, but you haven't noticed," Flo said.
Immediately, Aren turned around, and indeed there had been no bed. A moment ago, he would have sworn on the fact that this room had no bed. He was sure of that.
Flo broke the illusion, and the bed returned, and so did the real reality of the fact that the bed had always been there.
"Now you see what I just did? It cost more to do this than the first two," Flo said.
"Hmmm, that's crazy," Aren muttered, "but I think I understand how it works."
"Your ability is terrifying. It almost feels like you change the whole reality."
"Meh, just illusions. If you saw reality changing, it would be far worse than this, a whole larger and more intricate concept."
"Either way, it's great to have you, guardian spirit Flo," Aren said.
"I hope this is a fun ride," Flo said, then flew over, landing on his head.
Aren returned to the bed and sat down, back leaned against the wall, as Flo sat on his head.
He pulled up his system to check the final reward.
"Nice stats," Flo commented.
"You can see my personal system?" Aren asked.
"Yup, I am connected to you after all. Oh, and you are a summoner, tsk. Should I be jealous? You have them and now me. Where does your commitment lie in this relationship?" Flo asked.
"Relationship? You are a cat, more like a pet," Aren said.
"How dare you." She raised her paw and smacked his head. He ignored it and finally called for it, the last item of his rewards, the divine hammer.
He stretched out his hands and summoned the hammer. It materialized in his hands, in all its beauty and power.
Flo looked at the hammer.
"Damn," she muttered.
