The attacks came fast.
Aren was forced to run just to survive. Each one landed with a massive bang, leaving behind huge holes in the ground wherever they struck. The damage wasn't like the ground had been blasted apart, no, it was as if the ground itself had been deleted, completely gone.
Aren looked at the holes and broke into a cold sweat. If even one of those attacks touched him, it wouldn't injure him, it would erase part of him.
"She's damaging the training ground," Legion muttered, palming his face and dragging his hand downward in frustration.
As for the others, they were fully invested in the battle unfolding before them.
After narrowly dodging the barrage, Aren faced Arith again, preparing to continue, but what she did next shocked him.
She spread her hands wide, and over twelve small portals formed around her. At the same time, more than twenty condensed balls of spatial energy appeared.
She looked at Aren and smiled.
"You're making me actually put a good amount of effort into this fight," she said.
Aren took in the setup and instantly understood what she was planning.
It was downright terrifying.
He spread his Shadow Sense across the entire room, his only chance of surviving what was about to happen.
The next moment, she attacked.
The energy balls shot into the portals at insane speeds. Instantly, new portals opened at random locations throughout the training room, firing the attacks simultaneously from unpredictable angles. Aren could only hope to dodge them using Shadow Sense.
He pushed his speed to the absolute limit, moving with extreme precision and speed. Every dodge was a close shave. The attacks slammed into the walls and ground, carving out more erased zones.
One attack grazed his hair, and the strands it touched vanished instantly.
But Arith was relentless.
She created more portals. More attacks followed.
Aren knew he couldn't dodge everything.
Left with no choice, he summoned his merged wolf, his lightning wolf, and a swarm of ants.
The moment the ants appeared, they threw themselves into the attacks, sacrificing their bodies as shields. This gave Aren the breathing room he needed.
He ordered the merged wolf to lunge forward, while the lightning wolf stayed back, unleashing continuous lightning strikes.
At the same time, he summoned Fang, who disappeared into the chaos, silently moving unseen.
When Arith saw the sheer number of summons, her eyes widened.
Aren could summon this much and still fight at a good level in close combat.
She had never seen anything like it.
The merged wolf slammed into her defenses, unable to break through, but that was exactly what Aren wanted. A massive distraction she couldn't ignore.
The lightning wolf followed up, releasing a sustained bolt of lightning that crashed against her defense nonstop.
Arith was forced to focus completely.
If she even blinked for a single second, this fight would be over.
She didn't stop her attacks.
Even while focusing on blocking Aren's offense, Arith kept the spatial attacks raining down on him. Aren was forced to sacrifice ant after ant just to stay alive, buying time while his plan slowly came together.
Finally, Fang moved into the perfect position, a few feet behind her.
Legion and Lance noticed the wolf that had slipped through unnoticed. They watched as it moved carefully, step by step, until it reached her blind spot. Both of them frowned slightly, wondering if Aren intended to resort to a sneak attack through his summon.
Arith was aware of the wolf as well, but she didn't pay it any heed. If it lunged at her, she could kill it instantly. She pushed it to the back of her mind.
That was her fatal mistake.
At the exact right moment, Aren acted.
"Shadow Switch."
He vanished instantly, switching places with Fang.
No one expected it. Confused eyes lingered on the spot where Aren had been, while he was already behind Arith.
The moment he appeared, Aren unleashed a massive bolt of lightning straight at her.
There was no way to escape it.
Not while she was focused on the lightning wolf.
This was supposed to be the end.
Cornered and desperate, Arith used one of her trump cards. Her eyes glowed blood red as thin streams of blood seeped from them.
"Omniscient Spatial View."
In an instant, her vision expanded in all directions. She could see everything around her simultaneously, allowing her defense to respond perfectly.
The lightning slammed into her spatial defense and was completely nullified.
But she didn't stop there.
Now that she could see everything, she counterattacked immediately. She merged more than ten massive spatial energy spheres into a single condensed attack and hurled it toward Aren. It cut through the air, erasing space as it traveled straight for him.
"That's enough."
Legion's voice sliced through the chaos.
He appeared instantly between Aren and the incoming attack and threw a simple punch at the space erasing sphere. His fist shattered it on impact, the explosion shaking the entire room.
"You two have done enough," he said.
Aren and Arith both froze. They thought they had gone too far, far enough for him to step in.
"Look at how much damage you've done," Legion continued, gesturing at the ruined training ground. "If I let this fight continue, you'd tear this place down."
"Huh?" Aren and Arith said at the same time, staring at him in confusion.
"You stopped us because of the training ground?" Arith asked.
"Well, yeah," Legion replied flatly. "It's not like you'll pay for it, will you?" He glanced at her before adding, "Besides, I've seen everything I needed to see."
Aren unsummoned everything now that the fight was over. Part of him wished it could have gone on longer. He felt Arith still had more to show, and he knew he did too.
"Kid, it's insane that you went toe to toe with my sister," Legion said.
"Yeah," Arith added with a smile. "Even though I was holding back a lot, pushing me that far is impressive."
'Tch. Holding back. Way to rub it in my face,' Aren thought.
"Alright," Legion said, clapping his hands once. "Let's get all of you your ranks and guild cards."
