They all knew more or less what had happened to the man. In the brothel rules are not to be broken, those who break the rules must face the consequences that come with it.
Alaric had made sure to ingrain that into their minds.
" You can go back to whatever you're doing," he said breaking the silence.
....
Laura looked outside the helicopter window at the ocean below, they were heading to one of the few islands in the continent.
The dungeon had appeared unannounced and they had not noticed it until the sensors in the setligts had alerted them.
This was supposed to be a secret mission, the federation didn't want the public to know what was going on and panic. They were scared people will lose faith in the federation, that had been said by the ministers when it had been proposed.
" Laura why are you so quiet?" A voice came behind her. Another S class the annoying type.
She didn't even turn.
" I just don't see a reason to talk to you guys," she said. She really didn't like talking to them. If one wasn't trying to learn everything about her life, another was trying for a marriage while the rest just annoyed her by extension.
" You'll die alone."
That hit home but she didn't let it show, most S class were a nasty banch of egoist bastards.
Twenty minutes later the helicopter landed, and she was the first one to jump out.
She looked at the ten other S class each with their own power and standing in the federation.
The island was not large, you could see the end from where she was.
Laura walked to the red portal and looked at it. They had only sent photos and videos but seeing it in person made it even more real.
A red portal is something that has never appeared in history.
" Hi guys, you'll all be entering in thirty minutes , " Dr. Maloy said typing on his pad.
" How are we supposed to even fight in a dungeon we know nothing about, " one of the awakeners shouted.
" What do you expect us to do, this is something new that's why we are sending you in large numbers, the federation doesn't want to send you guys but we have no choice, " he said his voice irritated.
" Not only S ranks from the capital and the nearby districts have been sent, what about the other districts? Are you people sending us to die, " another said just to add fire.
" This was decided collectively, the capital has the highest man power, and most of you are the strongest in the whole federation. The other districts require their S classes since there has been an increase in S class dungeons, only the capital and the nearby districts seemed to have little S class anomalies. "
Everyone was quiet, they knew what the researcher had said was true, the capital was the least affected.
" Let's just get this over with," Laura said her voice breaking the silence.
I miss Alaric , she thought to herself and stretched.
She was the first one to step through the portal.
....
Four days had passed since Alaric saw the police and Laura left. He had been waiting for the police to return for a second interview or something but it all went quiet as though the man didn't exist.
Alaric felt like the police coming to him had been more of a formality on their side than a real questioning. He checked the news occasionally but nothing, not even a missing report.
It seemed that Mr Wayans missing had been swept under the rag. It was understandable since he had married into the family but from the looks of it wasn't satisfied with a wife that was the matriarch.
His wife was the head of the family while he was but a mere accessory to the woman. He wasn't her first husband and he knew he wouldn't be the last.
Alaric stood in front of the association looking at the huge building. He had decided to report his rank up so that he could gain access to higher dungeons.
He wanted to increase his level first but he had to get a certification for higher dungeon access .
He entered and walked directly to the old man's booth. Alaric found him dozing off, it seemed like people really didn't like to come to him.
" I want a class change," he said directly. The man sat up and started to type on the computer without saying anything.
" Here, go to the room next to the one that offers certification, you'll find someone there," he said giving Alaric a blue card with his name on it.
Alaric didn't even ask how he knew his name, he turned around and left. After a few turns in the too bright hallway he reached the room and knocked.
" Come in," a female voice came through the door.
He pushed open the door, closing it behind him.
" Excuse me," he said and sat down on the only available chair. A door opened on his left and a very familiar person appeared.
It was Jezebel's instructor. He had met her during his awakening test. If he remembers correctly her name was Sera.
" You've come for your upgrade?" She sat down on the chair opposite him.
" Yes."
" You should be in D class now, you have a steady growth if you continue like that you'll be a B class in three to four years, " she said kindly.
" Um I came for C class," Alaric said awkwardly.
" You are a C class now!"she stood up shocked the chair falling back.
" Yes."
" This is absolutely impossible, your growth is too fast ," she said pushing a sphere towards him," place your hand on it and release your mama."
Alaric did as he was instructed . The moment his mana poured into the sphere, it turned blue then yellow and finally settled at purple.
Sera looked at the results in shock. It was still shocking to see such results from a normal person despite having taught a lot of geniuses.
Most of them had some form of support. From school, their families or just a lot of resources.
" You are a genius to put it simply," she said thinking of a way to keep him by her side, he was probably going to be another S rank. Reaching S rank is like reaching your star before it dies.
Every awakened wishes to be an S class but only a few make it to become a B class . Growing ones class wasn't easy and the amount of awakening stones required was atrocious.
" Thank you for the compliment," Alaric said not denying her statement, why would he want to act humble.
" Here, take this to the card processor and enter your name," she stood up and disappeared behind the door she had come from.
Alaric was left there stunned. Why was she in such a hurry, he thought to himself but shrugged his shoulders and stood up. It wasn't any of his business anyway.
After Alaric finished the boring process, he walked back to the old man's booth.
"C class, not bad, " he said the moment Alaric took out his new card. Alaric smiled.
" Thanks to the weapon modification it was really useful," he said.
The man nodded and continued to play with the computers.
" Can I get a low level C class dungeon I want to go alone?" He asked his heart in his throat.
" Are you trying to kill yourself or are you just stupidly brave,"he said looking at Alaric for a while and shaking his head ," young ones."
Alaric just smiled awkwardly, what was he supposed to do other than that.
" Here, " he pushed his card to him," you can get that dungeon but just be careful."
Alaric nodded and thanked him before leaving. He called a cab and was driven two hours out of the capital to the wastelands.
This was a place where an S class Dungeon had appeared but had caused unimaginable damage. The small town had been burnt to the ground.
Since the place was too far away it had been too late. It has been fifteen years since the disaster.
At that time the federation panicked due to the announcement of the dungeon multiplication anomaly but after the incident the anomalies died down.
It was called a waste land since nothing could grow there and the ground was always black and smelled like burnt rubber.
Awakened with sensitive noses avoided the place as though it was plagued. It really felt like it. Alaric walked on alone since the cab couldn't go into the wastelands.
He could see the portal from where he was standing but he wasn't sure which one since there were four others a few distance from it.
The wastelands was also known for its abundance in dungeons. The place was a dungeon farm basically. Even though awakened hated the place, they all came because of the always present dungeon.
He arrived where the dungeons were to find only three people sitting on the desk clearly bored out of their lives.
" Hi, I wa..." He started after reaching them but was cut off.
" For god's sake do we have to baby you, that's the only remaining dungeon," one of them pointed at a silvery white portal in the middle," you can't go into the ones that have already been entered, just go stop disturbing us."
