"I asked you why you wanted to grow stronger, have you thought of the answer?"
Amon felt slightly disappointed that Damien had changed the topic but consoled himself internally.
He just had to stick around long enough, and he would definitely obtain the technique!
He pondered briefly on Damien's question.
Since he had encountered Helena the previous night, his mind had been occupied with all sorts of thoughts on protecting himself, so he hadn't really considered it.
But he would stick with his answer nonetheless.
"To achieve my goals," Amon replied resolutely.
"Hmmm," Damien mused, pacing back and forth.
"What goals do you hope to achieve?"
Amon was bewildered by the question.
"Seeing what's at the top of the mountain?"
"Ha… haha. You're one funny kid." Damien chuckled.
"That sounds interesting, as long as you don't stray too far off from your goal. There are many who have failed along the way. Take guidance from me, your instructor. I didn't stray at all and I truly became strong!"
Amon felt doubtful of Damien's strength.
After all, if someone was truly so strong, would they be bragging so casually about it?
Nonetheless, he didn't voice his thoughts and just continued nodding his head.
After Damien finished rambling for a while, he continued with another topic.
"Back to the concept of forming multiple cores. There have been theories about it, but none of them have been feasible so far…"
Damien walked back to his desk and picked up the diary he had written notes in.
"Kid, what do you think is the reason it hasn't been feasible?"
Amon broke out in a cold sweat instantly.
"Perhaps it's just impossible? Everyone should have one core!" Amon tried to sound confident.
Still, Damien shook his head and paced for a bit.
"I feel there's something wrong with how I'm going about it… hmm, what a drag. If my main body was here, he would have been able to solve the issue casually!"
Damien sounded frustrated.
After a long while of silence, he put the diary aside and shrugged, collapsing back into his seat.
"This is not how other classes are, you know," Amon said in dissatisfaction as he leaned back casually.
Damien exhaled. "I know… I'm just bad at teaching."
Then he froze and his eyes widened. "No, I'm not bad. I'm just too lazy… I taught you a visualisation art a few hours ago, after all."
Amon was speechless at Damien's shamelessness.
"That doesn't count as teaching. The battle art was quite easy to comprehend."
Damien's lips twitched repeatedly.
'Easy?' he scoffed.
"Well then, since you're complaining so much," he stood up and walked to a stack of books.
"Here, this contains information on all the first three ranks of star gates that's been explored so far. Read it, and by the end of the day when you're done, I'll ask you some questions. You can also try researching their weaknesses."
After handing Amon the book, he paused, then recalled something and added, "Right. Tomorrow is the third day since you came to the academy, right? You should head over to the treasury with the other students to collect your resources for the day. It's going to be really interesting tomorrow… hehe."
Amon collected the book; however, hearing Damien's creepy laugh, he felt a chill crawl up his spine.
"Is there anything I need to know about collecting the treasures tomorrow?"
"Hehe," Damien chuckled darkly once more before casually changing the topic.
"Nothing. Nothing. Just do whatever you need to do, you have my backing to be unruly…"
"Hmm," Amon stared at Damien for a few seconds before nodding.
He shifted his attention to the heavy book Damien had handed him.
On it was boldly written the book's name:
{Compendium of Star Beasts from Fissures, Ruptures, and Maelstroms.}
Amon was immediately intrigued. Without hesitation, he flipped the book open.
Boldly written across its cover were the words:
"This is information gotten from strong-willed gifted ones who have been daring enough to step into the otherworld known as star gates."
'Strong-willed?' Amon couldn't help saying a silent prayer for all those who had sacrificed their lives along the way.
Then, he continued reading.
"There are three grades of every rank of star gate: grade 3, the weakest; grade 2, medium difficulty; and grade 1, the most deadly of its kind."
"There have been many star gates that humanity has explored over the years, with the strongest being a grade 1 mirage: the Pyramid of Egypt."
'The Pyramid of Egypt?' Amon was astounded. In his previous life, he recalled hearing about a place like this!
Since he didn't know the ranks of star gates, he could guess that a mirage was definitely strong.
Reading the next line confirmed his guess and also filled Amon with terror.
"According to records, more than a thousand domain lords, led by ten voidhearts, went in there, but only barely a hundred returned alive, having cleared the place. To them, it's an extremely dangerous place with dangers everywhere they turned."
Domain lords!
They were the strongest people on Earth!
Back at Adam's mansion, he had read about domain lords and how strong they were.
Ruling over a domain, they were extremely terrifying, but to think one thousand of them entered the Pyramid of Egypt and only barely a hundred returned?
Amon was terrified by the thought.
In fact, the emperor, Helena's father, was merely a domain lord.
This went to show how strong domain lords were.
'Since he returned with the others, it just shows how strong he might be.' Amon was impressed.
Then, there were the voidhearts.
Amon didn't know anything about them yet, but seeing the pitiful number that followed the domain lords into the mirage, he understood one thing.
The rank above the domain lord!
It was definitely the rank above the domain lord!
'If a domain lord can rule a continent, then what about a voidheart? Can they rule the world?' Amon lampooned internally.
Feeling a headache from the overwhelming information and thoughts he was having, he continued reading further.
"Enough of the in-depth history of the world. The first rank of star gates is called a fissure, and these are the kinds of creatures that can be found within its depths."
Amon noticed the information on the page had come to an end and was slightly disappointed.
Nevertheless, he was still pleased to learn a bit of the history of the world of Bermuda.
"There's the swinger: these are creatures that look like pigs with tough bark, sharp snouts that can dig into a human's body, and they feed on living creatures."
"Praying diver: they look like pure snow-white birds during the day, but at night they become deadly assassins. Current known weakness: a kind of fruit called butterfly's wing."
Amon felt his vision and knowledge broaden as he continued reading about the star beasts.
Meanwhile, Damien sat in silence, contemplating a few things as his chair swung back and forth.
It was unknown if he was thinking about multiple cores or something else.
In this manner, the class session passed in silence, save for the rustle of a flipping book.
Amon was too engrossed in reading about the star beasts and learning more about them to even notice the passage of time.
Only when Damien's voice sliced through his thoughts did he finally come back to the real world.
"Hey, kid. You're not going back tonight?"
Amon turned around and glanced through the door, only to realise the skies had darkened considerably.
He was astounded.
If his guess wasn't wrong, he had spent more than twelve hours reading a book!
"I'll be retiring for the night." Amon stood up and felt slightly exhausted.
Even his limbs felt heavy from staying in the same posture for so long.
With a slight yawn, he casually went to place the book where the books were supposed to be, then bid Damien farewell.
Amon walked casually for a few minutes; however, he was cautious with his steps.
After all, he could still recall the scene of Helena killing the student.
The news still hadn't spread, which was surprising; however, Amon wasn't willing to be the next victim.
'It's still unknown who will claim whose life if she comes for me,' Amon mused with a smirk.
Walking briskly, he entered the dormitory section.
He casually strode past a few houses when he felt a slight stench in the air.
Amon wrinkled his nose slightly, feeling that something was wrong.
His battle-hardened instincts screamed at him for a moment.
And without hesitation, Amon dodged to the side.
Bang!
The loud sound echoed into the night as a claw pierced straight into the ground.
Looking up solemnly, Amon noticed a wriggling creature standing up from the location of the attack.
Then, he raised his gaze upwards.
There, seven pairs of eyes gleamed under the night sky.
'I'm being ambushed?' Amon understood.
Normally, in such a situation, one would be solemn, but Amon grinned wickedly as his sword appeared from his universe ring into his hand.
He sighed exasperatedly at the ambushers. "I've been bored for too long… come, ensure you give me some fun, okay?"
At his words, there was a flicker in the eyes of the beasts, as though they were looking at some sort of fool.
Soon, however, they understood that they had messed… with the wrong guy.
