Amon glanced around frantically and realised he and Helena were plummeting toward the ocean at a rapid speed.
How could he not realise he had been schemed against by this vile woman?
Compared to Amon, who was struggling and a little frantic, Helena appeared calm, and there was only a slight breeze brushing against her gown.
"Hey! Where are you taking me to? Didn't you hear the instructors when they said there might be some level of danger for us in the ocean?" Amon glared at Helena with a little hate in his eyes.
Helena stared at him calmly.
"Although there's some level of danger in the star gate, as long as we put in some effort, we won't die."
Hearing her words, Amon was speechless once more.
They won't die?
That didn't sound appropriate.
In essence, they could be injured to a gruesome extent, they just… wouldn't die.
"You're a crazy lady!" Amon didn't know when he spat the words out in spite.
Helena glanced at Amon once more, then shrugged.
"I get that a lot…"
Plop…
Amon and Helena finally landed in the water. Unable to swim, Amon quickly used the movement art and stabilised himself atop the water, glancing at Helena with caution.
His sword appeared in his grasp and he looked around for any sign of danger, ready to attack at any moment.
"Why did you bring me here?" Feeling no other person in the vicinity of the quiet ocean, save for the waves crashing against each other, Amon glanced at Helena and asked.
"Because you are a very interesting person, Amon. You don't belong here, yet you are here."
Amon's heart skipped a beat for an instant.
Did she… realise something?
Where was the flaw?
Where was the crack in his perfect facade?
He acted normal and evenly asked, "What are you talking about?"
Helena stared at Amon briefly. 'No reaction? It seems he's either painfully unaware of his peculiarities or is able to act quite well. Hmmm.'
No longer willing to push further with the questioning on Amon's identity, Helena pointed at the middle of the ocean in front of them.
"There, that's the star gate we're entering."
Amon stared blankly at the ocean.
All he could see was calm water moving about slowly.
Was there really a star gate there?
Based on the visual descriptions of star gates he had seen in books, some of them looked like gateways, portals to a different dimension.
"I mentioned it was a little unique." Helena replied with a shrug, then calmly stepped forward. Immediately, her figure vanished.
'She vanished just like that?'
Amon was speechless as he didn't see her use her space control gift.
He hesitated for a moment, then chose to believe her and took a step forward as well.
Immediately, a slight ripple spread through his body and Amon felt himself sink into the ocean at lightning speed before vanishing.
The wind drifted about, causing the ocean to sway gently, and a few fishes nearby even flapped their tails and swam in the night playfully, enjoying the scenic view.
…
Amon appeared somewhere else entirely and realised he was standing atop a floating cloud.
Strangely, he had appeared in some sort of temple and was draped in a white robe.
Speechless, he stared at his hands and realised they had grown smaller.
He tried to sense his core and noticed it had vanished.
Immediately, panic began to rush through Amon's body…
This was basically no different from a death sentence.
"Calm down…" a little girl said with the same cold, neutral expression.
Amon turned to glance at the cute girl and noticed she looked to be around the age of ten.
"Helena?" Amon asked quizzically.
"Shhhhhh." Helena placed her hand over her mouth to silence Amon.
Then she glanced around and studied the place for a bit.
Upon noticing someone familiar, Amon also glanced around to understand where exactly he was.
The place was filled with drifting clouds not too far away, and Amon realised he was standing atop one of them, along with more than thirty other children his age.
Far off in the distance he could faintly make out another floating cloud with silhouettes of children.
Amon frowned slightly and turned to Helena before asking in a whisper,
"What's happening?"
His body appeared thin and frail, and Amon felt the wind could blow him away at any time.
A feeling of weakness settled over him and it reminded him of the weakness he felt in his previous life.
Then, when he was powerless over his life and death.
Amon hated the feeling… a lot.
Helena glanced at him, her eyes taking in the sight of students with varying expressions, before she explained,
"This is the star gate I talked about. All we need to do is clear it and make it out alive."
"We don't even know how to clear it? Do we kill everyone here?"
Amon felt confused.
Helena stared at Amon with a deadpan look, causing his face to morph into disbelief.
"You want to kill everyone here? Why? To clear the star gate? Where's your sense of humanity?" He couldn't help but question.
With a shrug, Helena was about to reply when someone's voice cut through the air.
"What are you brats whispering about?" A youth of similar age to Amon, with a slightly muscular body, threw a punch, causing Amon's frail body to collapse onto the cloud.
It felt particularly soft to touch and hard at the same time, but it wasn't enough to hurt Amon from the collision.
He raised his head to stare at the youth who had punched him, his eyes filled with anger.
Trying to summon his sword, he noticed nothing appeared, bringing about the dawning realisation that he was truly in the unique star gate.
"Dammit!" Amon cursed silently in his heart, then turned to Helena, only to notice she was no longer paying him any attention after making a simple gesture.
It was a gesture of her slitting her throat.
Amon felt a little repulsed by the thought.
He struggled to stand up and glanced at the kid, replying to his question from earlier.
"We are whispering about nothing."
"Is that so?" From the kid's expression, one could tell he didn't believe Amon in the slightest.
Amon nodded, his eyes flickering with countless thoughts.
"Come here." The kid gestured toward Amon.
Amon stared intently at him with a neutral expression and didn't make a move.
Seeing this, the youth once more flared up.
"You fucker!" The youth cursed and stepped forward with heavy steps, approaching Amon without hesitation.
Upon reaching him, he threw a punch.
Amon caught the punch and dragged the kid forcefully toward him, then taking advantage of the moment the kid was dazed, put him in a chokehold.
Gurgling sounds echoed in the air as the youth immediately struggled frantically, trying to get someone to save him, but it was all to no avail.
Amon's facial expression was without emotion as he kept his grip tight and felt the body of the youth gradually losing its struggle.
The youth struggled for barely two minutes before going to the afterlife.
Immediately, Amon felt an itchy sensation on his skin.
He pulled down his white robe to realise that a black line had appeared at some point on his skin.
At the same time, he vaguely felt he could access roughly one percent of his true strength.
'Is this the way to clear the star gate?' Amon was puzzled, but he also became solemn, feeling that things couldn't be so simple.
