Amon's vision darkened and darkened until he felt his mind grow blank and he lost consciousness.
A strange light streamed in through the windows and he gradually opened his eyes after what seemed like an eternity.
He turned to the side to notice the granny conversing with Helena, the two of them chatting like they had been long time friends.
"Urgh," Amon muttered, still feeling the aftertaste of the disgusting liquid lingering in his mouth.
'Mine contained the poison…' Amon realized as he stood up, still feeling the dizziness clouding his mind.
'Then what happened. Why am I perfectly alright now?'
The words of the old lady echoed in his mind silently…
Save a life or take a life… which would it be?
Silently, he glanced at Helena who was still chatting with the old granny.
The granny also glanced at him.
"What is this about?" Amon muttered as he walked toward the two.
"You're awake, child." The granny's eyes immediately lit up the moment she saw Amon.
'Child?' Amon scoffed internally. If she really considered him a 'child' why would she go ahead and poison him the moment he arrived?
He was just a visitor here for crying out loud.
Still furious internally, Amon tried to force the thought to the back of his mind as he stared at the granny and Helena who still had the form of a little girl.
"It was a really simple test. I took a life… and she restored it. You both are compatible."
Amon felt a headache creeping in as he stared at the old granny.
He couldn't understand a word coming from her mouth.
Frowning slightly, he turned to Helena. "How do we leave here?!"
Helena immediately glared at Amon, then turned to the granny and forced a smile.
"Sorry for his behaviour, I'll speak to him."
The granny instantly beamed.
"There's no need for that." She waved her hand.
"I should serve you two some warm tea, the weather is cold around these times."
The moment she finished speaking, she didn't wait for Amon or Helena to say anything before she rushed into the back of the thatched house.
The moment the old woman left, Helena glared at Amon.
"Why would you ask her something like that?"
Although her voice was a hushed whisper, the burning anger beneath it couldn't be hidden in the slightest.
"Because we need to leave here. That old woman is crazy," Amon replied.
Didn't Helena see what just happened?
They had literally just arrived and he was almost poisoned to death.
What next?
Amon could easily guess that the tea she was bringing would contain some sort of hidden mechanism.
Helena glared at him again before whispering, "Don't say something like that. There are many ways to clear this star gate and this is one of the easiest without the need to be branded a 'sinner'."
She continued, "Don't you know that by being branded a sinner, upon returning to the real world if your sin is too great you would become a star beast and even cause a descent of your own, forming a dangerous star gate."
Hearing her words, Amon's eyes trembled in shock.
"What?" He stared at her in disbelief.
Again, he couldn't help asking, "How do you know all this information? It's as though you've been here before…"
Amon glanced at her with narrowed eyes.
Helena shrugged. "I just know things. If you don't feel like listening to me you can head over to another cloud. I'm certain that a massacre is needed to leave there."
"Dying the clouds red in blood. A sacrifice is needed to leave the star gate. All we need to do is outlive the old woman."
"What sort of ruthless plan is that?" Amon felt shock from the bottom of his heart.
At the same time he couldn't help asking, "Why can't we just kill her?"
Suddenly, he was shocked by his own ruthlessness.
Helena stared at him blankly. "You're already manifesting signs of being a 'sinner'. Your bloodlust is getting higher. Thankfully, the old granny suppressed it with her poison so you're alright for now."
"She suppressed it?" Amon was dumbfounded.
How hadn't he realized?
Helena glanced at him with an unimpressed expression.
"I thought you'd have realized. Try to be nice to the old lady, we just need to keep her company for a bit."
Amon pondered briefly on the thought and couldn't help asking, "How long do you think we have to stay here for?"
Helena fell silent, her eyes flickering with thought before she replied.
"Probably a few years. Roughly twenty or more."
"What?" Amon was alarmed.
For so long?
In the real world, with that much time, Amon was certain he could become invincible.
To waste his precious time in this manner planning to outlive someone…
Amon didn't like the sound of that.
"Chill," Helena said, "the timeflow in this star gate is altered. I told you it's a unique star gate. There are even star gates that can transport you to an alternate reality and you won't be able to differentiate Bermuda from it."
Stunned by the uniqueness of star gates, Amon fell silent.
If what Helena said was true didn't that mean he could kill a lot here, regain his full strength and increase it for a long time before returning to the real world?
All he had to do was kill a few people… it wouldn't take him much time.
A surge of killing intent and bloodlust began clouding Amon's vision.
And suddenly he didn't find killing unjustly so unappealing anymore.
"My children." The elderly woman's voice sliced through his thoughts, pulling Amon out of his dazed state.
Stunned by the thoughts he was having, he inwardly grew alarmed and turned to stare at the old lady who held a tray with three cups, tea pots, and a kettle.
Helena quickly stood up with a smile.
"Granny, please sit down." As she finished speaking she held the tray as though she was afraid of the granny stressing herself.
"Oh child, you are so kind." The granny said with a warm expression as she left the tray to Helena and collapsed onto the chair with a tired look on her face.
"It was starting to get boring here. Thanks to the appearance of you lovely children…"
"It's nothing, granny." Helena said with a soft smile, then handed Amon a tea pot, gave one to the granny, and placed one in front of herself.
She picked up the kettle and began serving them without hesitation.
Amon stared at Helena's display, feeling a little alarmed in his heart.
As Helena poured him the cup of tea he hesitated for a long while on whether to take it or not.
Helena sat beside him and took the cup of tea in her hand.
She took a sip and a relieved expression appeared on her face.
After closing her eyes to savor the richness for a few seconds, she grinned and praised with a laugh.
"Granny, you make tea so well. You must really have some talent for this."
The granny looked a little shy. "Is that so? Your friend seems to think otherwise…"
As she spoke, she turned to Amon slightly.
Instantly, Amon got rid of his hesitation.
The granny seemed to know what might be wrong with him. Perhaps the tea could help him a bit.
He stared at the tea which was blood red like a sea of blood and drank it.
Immediately, a burning hot liquid surged down his throat and into his body.
'Damnation.' Amon cursed internally.
