"Now this is an impressive lineup of mechas." Enzo proclaimed, mesmerized by the sight.
Hmph!
Bryce crossed his arms arrogantly. "These junks can't hold a candle to my Sunshine."
Since Claire wasn't riding on the tiger but was moving with her own mecha, the old man felt more comfortable praising her.
Grr!
The tiger they were riding on growled, almost as if insulted by Bryce's words.
"Even if that is correct, they are definitely cuter than her mecha." Victoria exclaimed as if it were a matter of fact.
A few minutes later they reached the wall of Celestia. There, numerous doctors were waiting for their arrival.
"Bring the injured!"
Instantly they began their work, picking and gathering around the most fatally wounded. They vowed to not let a single one of them die.
"I think you should get checked just in case." Victoria advised. Michael's wounds had been pretty dire, so she was worried he wasn't fully recovered yet.
"Don't worry about me. Your hands did the trick." He chuckled warmly. During the ride, he had gotten enough rest to return him to his peak.
"If you say so…" She nodded; if he claimed he was fine, she was going to believe him.
Once the injured were transported, the Grandmasters got to work.
"I know that you are exhausted from the Generals' attack, but we have no time to waste. We are joining the offensive against the portal!" Alice shouted in a booming voice.
Time was of the essence; the more they lingered, the more Generals were going to appear.
Yet to her surprise, rather than complaining, the soldiers seemed more eager than ever to join the fray.
"We won't let the bastards get away with it!"
A smile spread on Noah's face, seeing the soldiers' fighting spirit.
"Good! Then let's hurry; we are meant to join the formation."
In a timely manner, they headed towards the gathered army outside the city's gate.
Naturally, the tigers left their side as they headed to their own pack.
The army was separated by the soldiers' realm. Since Michael was an Expert, he was stationed with Ava.
Alice, being tasked with reporting to the city's Lord, swiftly approached the threatening figure in the far distance.
"We have successfully arrived. I express my thanks for sending the tigers our way." She spoke with utmost respect.
The Lord, a man with long dark hair that reached the floor, nodded.
"Tell me what happened in detail." He said calmly.
With each word that came out of Alice's mouth, it sounded more like she was telling a fairy tale.
"To think there are people capable of beating Generals aside from the Grandmasters. Hopefully, they will come in handy." He exclaimed, not being surprised by the news. Evidently his mind was preoccupied with the battle ahead.
'I guess when you become so powerful, even miraculous news doesn't faze you.' Alice thought, going back into formation.
Time quickly passed. Several more teams of reinforcements managed to reach the city.
Once the last expected troops joined them, the Lord ordered.
"Advance."
A single word caused goosebumps to rise on the bodies of those behind him.
"Even against a General tier portal, I feel confident with such a monster on our side."
"I'm telling you, these aliens don't stand a chance!"
With their speed being relatively slow, the soldiers entered chatter. Their superiors didn't stop them, knowing it would help alleviate their mood.
"How did you do it? Kill a General, I mean." Finally, Ava couldn't hold herself back and asked for the details.
Michael spared her a glance before shrugging. "I just overwhelmed it."
"..."
Part of Ava felt like Michael was hiding something, while another felt like he was dead serious.
"Just you wait, it won't be long before I can achieve your feat!" She proclaimed.
Michael chuckled. "You already killed one with the help of the crew. What more do you want?"
While he knew it was good to have goals, he was concerned that Ava would get discouraged if she compared herself to him too much.
"It's not the same! Nevertheless, stop worrying about me!" She pouted cutely.
Exiting the protective barrier of the city, the soldiers began to shiver from the cold blizzard on the planet.
Swush!
But that didn't last long. With a flick of his finger, the Lord conjured a giant protective barrier around the whole army, halting the blizzard effortlessly.
Understandably, the gesture of such overwhelming might pumped up the soldiers even more.
"We are getting near! Prepare for combat!"
Finally, a few hours into their march, the first foes appeared on the horizon.
Roar!
Numerous Lesser, Higher, and Elite tier aliens moved forward, ready to stop their advance.
Of course, there were unknown numbers of Generals mixed in.
Behind them stood a massive gateway that allowed for the passage of aliens up to the General tier.
'I haven't received a quest.' Michael mused, glancing at his system.
'I doubt that sealing this portal will count as liberating Neptune. I must stay on guard.'
Slowly he put his hand on Ava's waist, bringing her closer.
"There are Generals mixed in, be mindful of them. If your senses tell you that something is wrong, retreat." Rather than a suggestion, this was an order. He wanted to make sure that none of his crew perished in the fight.
"Roger." She nodded, her eyes sharpening. His touch helped her to clear her mind.
"Humanity was born to inherit the stars!"
With a collective shout to hype themselves up, the soldiers pounced forward.
Roar!
The mecha tigers moved faster than most could perceive, flanking their enemies. The normal mechas acted as shields, tanking most hits to prevent the weaker soldiers from harm.
With the start of the battle, the only one that remained stationary was the Lord. He observed his troops curiously for a couple of seconds.
"Many would die, but they should be fine on their own." He mumbled, his body moving upward, starting to levitate.
"..."
Nonchalantly, his figure moved deep into the enemy ranks. Unsurprisingly, nothing dared to stand in his way. Even the mighty Generals cowered in fear when they sensed his aura and prayed he didn't pay them any mind.
Soon he reached the giant portal. Even now, it was spewing aliens at staggering rates.
"My fears… seem to have come true." He remarked, staring at a figure that sat calmly before the portal.
Just by the sheer aura the being was transmitting, it was certain it was one tier above the Generals.
An Overlord…
