The higher the cultivation of a person, the more powerful they will become. While an Adept was just slightly more powerful than an Apprentice. The jump in power from Master to Grandmaster was akin to heaven and earth.
And the Lord realm was a league of its own. It symbolizes power that most will not even dream about.
Yet that mighty Lord had just fallen against an alien that had managed to beat it one-on-one.
That meant no amount of Experts, Masters, or Grandmasters would be able to put a single wound on the smiling Overlord before them.
That realization caused the Grandmasters to halt in place, having difficulty coming to terms with reality. The Generals that they had been fighting noticed the change and stopped as well.
In the matter of a few seconds the raging battle froze in place, everybody staring at the still smiling Overlord.
'Sadistic creature, after it killed the Lord of Celestia, it put a barrier to protect us from the blizzard. All just to mess with us.' Michael analyzed, his mind becoming unnaturally calm.
He was a veteran that had gone through countless battles, many of which he shouldn't have survived.
Now he found himself in a similar position with a threat too overpowering to overcome, and with a city housing millions of people behind him, he had to assess the risk carefully.
Most of the time when people claimed that something was impossible, there was still a small chance of hope. Even if it was a single percent, there was a way to twist things in his favor.
However, no matter how much he racked his brain, he came to the same conclusion. The chances of the human forces beating the Overlord and saving the Celestia were…
Zero.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE LORD?!"
Enraged, a few of the Grandmasters pounced on the threatening alien, with no regard for their safety.
Making use of the chance, Michael spared a glance to the Grandmasters of Azure. They were of the few that still had their emotions under control thanks to his earlier warning.
'I have done all I can. Whatever you live is up to you.'
[Dash activated]
Not sparing strength, he pushed his body to the very limit.
Swush!
Traveling with speed akin to Master, he navigated through the sea of aliens, his sight locking on his first target.
Before Ava could react, Michael scooped her up.
"M—Michael?" She murmured, surprised by his strange actions.
"We lost. Retreat is the only way to survive."
In a flash he neared Victoria and Claire. From a simple glance he knew that they had come to the same conclusion as him.
With a nod, Victoria began to follow him. At the same time Claire's mecha broke free of the formation and reached her old man.
"Sunshine, wha—"
Not even bothering to explain herself, she grabbed hold of the old man, intending to get out of the area as fast as possible.
"Michael and Daredevil?" Leo was stunned when he saw them so close. Since the other members of the Indomitable Alliance were so far back, they hadn't yet grasped what had happened at the very front.
"Did my rival come to show off?" Enzo asked.
Meanwhile, Amelia quickly came to the conclusion something was wrong. Victoria and Michael will not abandon the front without a good reason.
"What has—"
Before she could ask, a powerful explosion drowned out her voice.
BOOM!
The whole battlefield turned white for a fraction of a second.
"HAHAHA! Come, insects! Let me taste your flesh!" The Overlord had stopped playing around and met the hot-headed Grandmasters that had charged it.
That caused a large mushroom cloud to rise high in the air, as if an atomic bomb had been dropped in the middle of the field.
"The Lord has fallen. We retreat. Now."
Michael's voice left no room for argument. Under his commanding tone, even Victoria felt like she had no choice but to obey.
Swush!
Now that the jig was up and everybody knew that the Lord had fallen, the Overlord dismissed the large protective barrier. Instantly the soldiers felt a freezing cold overcoming their senses.
Even worse, due to the raging blizzard, their vision was severely restricted.
"What now? The city is doomed, and the trails towards Azure are busted. We can't reach it by train, and we can't take shelter. The cold will be the end of us before long." Victoria exclaimed with gritted teeth, her mind going into overdrive.
Not bothered to answer, Michael sped off towards one of the large mechanical tigers that had separated from the formation.
Coincidentally, that was the same one that had transported them to the city.
Unwilling to waste time, Michael put his hand on its mecha's body.
"Submit."
[Bypasser activated]
Using the Mythic technique caused Michael to feel lightheaded, but he pushed past the pain.
In a matter of seconds the eye sensors of the tiger shifted colors, becoming red, mirroring his still activated Warlock technique.
To prevent the aliens from infiltrating the tiger's networks, the humans had isolated them from any larger systems. This made Michael's task of infiltrating the beast significantly easier.
[Master, your orders.]
Thanks to the powerful technique, the tiger was under Michael's rule in a heartbeat.
"Take us and retreat to Azure at once."
With a low growl, the mecha tiger complied. Moving staggeringly fast, its jaws took hold of Michael and his crew and threw them on its back. Simultaneously the generator meant to keep the occupants warm activated, heating them up.
Roar!
Reaching speeds that surpassed a Master, the tiger sped off away from the battle.
[According to my calculations, the threat will reach us before long.]
The AI warned after calculating their chance of survival.
Michael's gaze quickly shifted to Amelia.
"If you could."
She blinked a few times, still in a daze, confused how quickly things had turned around. A moment later she grasped what Michael meant.
With a frown she produced several thin wires and connected them to the tiger. Then, not sparing strength, she produced as much electricity as she could, sending it into the mecha.
ROAR!
Fueled by the surge of electricity, the tiger's eyes shone brighter, accelerating.
With the increase in speed, it appeared that they were going to be able to get away from the battlefield in time.
Meanwhile, the front line had descended into a hellscape. As soldiers began to fall like ants.
