"Y—You are quite fearsome for a mere insect." The General mumbled, a sweat forming on its forehead.
"I can't say the same thing about you." Michael taunted nonchalantly.
"YOU!" Instantly the monster entered a frenzy.
'It's so easy to anger them.' He thought inwardly. The more frustrated his enemy was, the more mistakes they were going to make.
Naturally, just because he was conversing with the being didn't mean they were equal in power. One wrong move on Michael's side was all it took for him to die.
His body wouldn't be able to withstand the full might of a General just yet.
"DIE!"
Slash!
Boom!
Utilizing his weapons at their full potential, he moved between the strikes of the General, delivering attacks wherever he could.
Due to the sheer aura the General was transmitting, a ring had formed around the two of them. Most humans and aliens alike were reluctant to get too close unless they wanted to get caught in the fray.
Yet that didn't mean nobody neared.
Now that the alien was enraged and had its full focus on Michael, it totally missed the petite woman that had sneaked behind it.
"Explosion!"
Ava shouted, bringing her hammer down full force.
BOOM!
Unleashing her techniques, she successfully managed to deliver a devastating wound to the being's back.
"Don't interfere!" The alien roared in anger. Its arm rose, ready to gut Ava on the spot.
"Nobody harms my people." Yet before its strike could connect. The hook of Heaven's Judgment connected with the monster's elbow, stopping its attack.
The nearby soldiers saw a chance to attack. Knowing that if Michael failed, they were next, they joined the fray.
Bullets assaulted the general's body. Slashes of all kinds began to appear.
Most of the soldiers came close and delivered attacks only to retreat a second later. The only two people that constantly remained close to the General were Michael and Ava.
Under the combined onslaught of so many humans, the alien's movement began to slow down. Blood falling down from its numerous injuries.
"How can this be?" It groaned in pain. By the time it realized it was outmatched, its chance of escape had been cut off.
Thud!
Surrendering to its wounds, the life in its eyes disappeared, falling to the ground.
"Glory to Mankind!" The soldiers shouted in pride once the monster fell. They had managed to beat a General without the help of a single Master or Grandmaster!
Before continuing the battle against the weaker enemies, their gazes lingered on the person responsible for their victory.
During the battle Michael had received a great deal of injuries on his own. Had it not been for Warlock, he would have become much weaker as a side effect.
That, coupled with a greatsword in one hand and a threatening shotgun in another, gave him the appearance of a monster from a nightmare that had appeared with the sole goal of dealing with the aliens.
"Here, take my healing synergy." Concerned about his state, Ava instantly injected him with the healing liquid, improving his condition.
"Thanks." With a nod of appreciation, he joined the slaughter again.
The humans continued to advance. Even with the numerous Generals in the alien ranks, they weren't able to deal with the hundreds of Grandmasters that had come to seal off the portal.
During the brutal exchanges, Michael would constantly throw worried glances at the battle with the Lord.
Even with all these troops, if the ruler of Celestia were to lose against the Overlord, then it all will be for naught.
'Let's hope it doesn't come to that.' He hoped, focusing on killing as many as he could.
As the humans progressed, their ranks began to mix with one another. After some time, Michael managed to take a glimpse of Victoria and Claire.
"How are you holding up?" Victoria asked, seeing his wounded state.
"Better than ever." He replied there was no time to explain that each injury made him stronger.
With thousands of aliens falling under humanity, the spiritual energy in the air continued to increase exponentially.
Michael almost began to drool at the thought of how much he would be able to advance his cultivation once this was all over.
After a certain period of time, victory appeared certain. That was why he froze when an unexpected quest appeared before his eyes.
[Quest: Run away]
[Difficulty: Hard]
[Task: Retreat to Azure!]
[Reward: 200 Skill Points]
"What?"
He instantly halted, his mind going into overdrive. They were winning, so why did the system want him to get away?
There was veritably no benefit to abandoning a winning battle. The person could be marked as a deserter if it was judged he had been too cowardly.
"Don't tell me…" Instantly a deadly scenario appeared in his mind.
"I will be right back!"
After alerting Ava of his absence, he sped off, going deep into the enemy ranks.
"Expert Michael?" Alice was surprised to see that the Expert had come towards her.
Sure, he possessed unbelievable prowess, being able to beat a General. But at the front where Grandmasters were fighting, it was swarming with Generals. No one aside from their realm would dare get too close.
"Something is wrong! We have missed something!" Michael alerted, stepping forward.
Noah, who had overheard their conversation, butted in.
"Are you mad? How could anything be wrong when we are winning?" The Grandmaster retorted.
Just when Michael's lips were about to part, his pupils narrowed, realizing something.
No matter how much he tried, he couldn't hear the battle of the Lord.
Focusing his vision, he saw the Lord figure staring at them with a slight smile. Since Michael had taken a glimpse of its figure. The Lord judged it was time to near.
"Lord Vincent! Congratulations on your victory!" Alice praised with a smile, yet before she could approach him, Michael grabbed her hand, halting her in place.
"This… isn't the Lord."
"..."
Awarmed by his words, the Grandmasters focused further. Indeed there was something wrong with the Lord.
Even if they didn't want to admit it, this was the Overlord who had taken his appearance.
"W—Where is the Lord?" Alice stuttered, retreating backwards.
A menacing smile spread on the Overlord's face as it patted its stomach.
"Delicious."
