Supreme Paragon Reborn: Humanity’s Rise To Galactic Supremacy

Chapter 118: Cat and Mouse Game

With a frown, Michael rose from his bed, scanning his condition.

'Taking into account the state of my body, it's easy to deduce what kind of poison I have been infected with.'

His gaze swiftly moved towards the door.

'Aphrodisiac.'

If he had to guess, then he had been infected by air. With smoke that is invisible to the naked eye, it would be impossible to spot even with Perfect Vision.

Still… The poison chosen puzzled him. He could understand if it was one that crippled him, but an aphrodisiac wouldn't affect his fighting ability much, nor would it kill him.

The only thing that came to mind was an assassin that didn't have much information on him. Only then would it make sense since the cultivators that could block poisons would purposefully let the effect of an aphrodisiac work on them for personal reasons.

Taking a deep breath, Michael peeked out the peephole of the door before opening it.

"..."

When he thought about an assassin, many images entered his mind. Yet not one of them was close to reality.

A woman with a breathtaking smile waited opposite the door with a bottle of wine. She had black hair that caressed down her waist and eyes that had a dangerous glint in them.

She had purposefully clothed herself in revealing lingerie and appeared taller due to the high heels she was wearing.

'More dangerous than she appears.' He noticed the way her eyes trembled for a fraction of a second.

She knew he was watching her.

If he had to describe the assassin, a venomous snake would be the perfect fit.

'Rather than trying to kill me outright, now they try to seduce me? That's a first in this life.' He mused, opening the door.

He could have killed her from across the door but didn't for two reasons. The first one was that he needed information, and if he killed her too fast, he wouldn't learn anything.

The second reason was, he felt several presences near. She wasn't alone.

"Can I help you?" He asked with a warm smile, masterfully hiding his suspicious nature.

"Oh, forgive me, it appears that I got the wrong door!" The woman exclaimed, putting her free hand over her lips, taking a few steps backward.

'I see your game.' Michael sneered internally.

Since someone had put an aphrodisiac in his room, it was clear how they expected him to act.

"Are you sure you got the wrong door?" He tilted his head to the side. "The way I see it, you're in the perfect place."

The woman giggled at the comment.

'Forced laughter.' Michael analyzed.

"Now that you mention it~"

Her gaze dropped, inspecting his tall body. A few seconds later she licked her lips in a seductive manner.

"I really am in the right place~"

Without letting the smile drop from his face, he gestured. "Care to enter?"

Seizing the chance, the woman nodded and accepted the invitation.

Michael, meanwhile, lingered at the open door for a fraction longer.

'Twenty presences.'

He almost felt touched. Whoever wanted him dead had sent a whole squad after him.

"May I ask what a lovely lady like yourself is doing at night without company?" Sitting across from her, he asked.

"The man I was meant to meet got cold feet." She sighed, resting her back in the chair in a way that emphasized her cleavage.

"Quite ironic, in a way. He's a famous soldier, so I thought nothing would faze him… It appears that I was mistaken."

"Is that right?" Michael played along. "What made him so famous?"

Gazing at the wine bottle for a few seconds, the woman answered. "Apparently he had a soul weapon. That's what drew me to him… But I never got the chance to confirm it for myself."

'So they know I have a soul weapon. She mentions this, expecting me to summon mine with the effects of the aphrodisiac in my system.'

"Is that right? I also happen to have one." With a chuckle, Michael summoned Devil's Tongue.

'Kill the wretch! Damned witch trying to seduce my owner with a cheap drug! Unless I hear her screaming from pain, I will not be satisfied!' The soul weapon demanded a sacrifice.

Michael was pleasantly surprised. Apparently his weapon did have a sound mind and wasn't going to fall for some cheap seduction act.

"Oh my god!" The woman exclaimed, putting a hand over her chest. "It must be fate that we've met!"

With a smile she grabbed two glasses and filled them to the rim with alcohol.

"What do you say we drink to that?" She asked, winking in a charming way.

Unamused, Michael stared at the liquid. Even an idiot would know it was poisoned. And even if it wasn't, he would always refuse something that would harm his body.

"Sorry, but I don't drink alcohol regardless of the occasion. I like to be of sound mind, you see."

With interest he observed the woman's acting skills. What was she going to do now that he messed up her plans?

Aside from the slight tremble in her left brow, she showed no reaction.

"Really? I kind of get it~"

She said, putting the glass back on the table.

"Alcohol numbs senses, and we wouldn't want that, would we~"

Using alcohol to drop his guard was part of the initial plan. But seeing him act so eager, it was clear that the drug hidden in his room had been enough to cloud his judgment.

Slowly she got up and neared. Putting her hand over his weapon, she slowly traced towards him, reaching his arm and finally his face.

"Michael… No master, would you keep this lonely lady company tonight?"

She whispered in his ear with a charming tone. Using his name was intentional; when you addressed someone by name, they were more likely to go along with whatever you wanted.

He chuckled softly. "It would be my pleasure, but before we start, riddle me this…"

Playing along, he brushed her hair to the side, moving his free hand to her exposed neck.

"I don't recall us ever exchanging names… So how come you know mine already?"

"..."

The woman froze, gazing at his eyes that began to burn crimson.

It appeared that the aphrodisiac hadn't been as effective as she had been misled to believe.
