Bright explosions rang out as the Lords battled against the sadistic Overlord.
"HAHAHA! You aren't holding back at all!" The alien exclaimed before its eyes started to glow with threatening light.
"Get back!"
In a flash, the Lords made distance between themselves and the monster.
After all, they knew it was about to perform a soul attack!
With a gruesome smile, the eyes of the Overlord locked onto one Lord that had remained hidden in absolute darkness.
Of course, this was the Lord of Azure, ensuring that no one saw their true form, a veil of darkness surrounding their figure.
However, thanks to the alien's ability to see the true forms of souls, the Overlord was able to take a glimpse of the Lord's true appearance.
"A mere brat!" The alien shouted in pure amusement.
Unknown to most, the Lord of Azure was a little boy, or at least had the appearance of one. For unidentified reasons, his appearance hadn't changed in a long time despite his old age.
A frown appeared over the Lord's face. He hated it when someone brought up his true appearance. But knowing that he was about to experience a soul attack, he focused.
"...!"
His eyes enlarged, finding himself in a foreign domain. It looked like his fate was already sealed, yet before the Overlord could inflict any kind of harm, the connection was forcibly cut.
"Now I feel flattered!" The alien began to laugh maliciously.
The humans that had come to challenge it had brought some kind of treasure capable of negating the alien's main way of inflicting damage.
"Don't think that this will save you!" With a roar, it made use of its psychokinesis to retaliate.
Yet to its displeasure, it was being pushed back.
"Don't falter! If it can bleed, it can be killed!" The Lord of Vespera shouted.
'Foolish.' The Overlord sneered internally, unleashing another soul attack.
"...!"
Just like before, the connection was forcibly cut before the alien was able to inflict any real harm.
However, that too was fine. Since killing the Lords here and now was never its goal to begin with.
Even if it was just a glimpse, the Overlord was able to lay its hideous eyes on the souls of these humans.
And a soul was a mirror to oneself. You can make use of lies, techniques, treasures, and whatnot to hide your true nature. But at the end of the day, your soul would remain unaltered.
Spelling out your strengths, feats… and weaknesses.
"I can see it!" Ignoring the numerous wounds that covered its body, the Overlord roared.
BOOM!
Under the onslaught of the battle, the center of Celestia was turning into rubble. There was no material in the world that could withstand the might of so many powerhouses.
Yet rather than despair, the soldiers felt inspired witnessing the scene.
"Push forward!"
"Massacre them all!"
Due to the corpses that had been put on display in front of the city, the troops' rage had turned even more ferocious.
Like ordered, they didn't halt for even a second. Should a warrior get exhausted or wounded and in need of aid, three more would step up, taking over the position.
That resulted in numerous casualties on the alien side, while the number of fallen humans remained relatively low.
They say humanity could create miracles when they come together. The soldiers were certain that this was one of those historic moments.
At last they managed to capture the outer edge of Celestia!
"There you are!" Victoria proclaimed, laying her eyes on Richard. Unexplainably, the Master had been absent from the battle.
Victoria had assumed that he had gotten bored and left, yet to her surprise, he had gotten deeper in the enemy territory than her.
"What are you doing here?" She asked.
With a shrug, Richard pointed behind him. There, Peter and the Adepts that had remained in the city were resting, wounded but alive.
Among them were countless civilians that they had managed to save. By risking their lives.
"Michael told me to do everything in my power to find them." Richard answered nonchalantly.
Relieved that so many people had been saved, Victoria let out a sigh.
Then a second later her breath hitched.
Her eyes sharpened like those of a fearless lion, settling onto Richard.
"If you are here… then where is Michael?"
"..."
Wordlessly, Richard met Victoria's fearless gaze with a mischievous smile spreading over his face.
"How should I know?" He replied calmly.
Back at the center of the battle, the Overlord's smile was nowhere to be seen.
Not because it was unhappy, but because the muscles to smile had melted away.
"It all ends now!"
Noticing the clear signs of exhaustion in the alien's movements, the Lords pounced on the monster in unison.
Thanks to their supreme teamwork, they were unharmed and still full of vitality.
Slash!
Blood stained the shattered ground as the numerous sharp objects impaled the body of the alien.
"For the sin of killing millions of humans, for bringing ruin to the prosperous city, you are hereby sentenced to death!" The voice of the Lord traveled across the whole city, informing the troops of their victory over the biggest threat.
"Glory to Mankind!" Hearing the voice of one of their revered leaders, the troops intensified their efforts to liberate the city.
"Haha~"
A meek chuckle escaped the maw of the fallen Overlord.
"You insects… will soon learn true despair."
With a frown, the Lord of Vespera lifted her slender leg and stepped upon the Overlord's head, shattering it.
Instantly the area filled with spiritual energy, marking the end of the tyrannical alien's life.
Exchanging nods, the Lords instantly sat in meditation position, intending to make full use of the moment. In their realm, cultivation had become agonizingly slow, so opportunities like this, when such a surge of spiritual energy flowed, were incredibly rare.
Of course they had done so, only after confirming that the surroundings were safe. They knew that once a creature died, its body would release the spiritual energy it contained. In other words, the Overlord's death couldn't be faked.
However, they didn't know that only signified the death of the physical body. While the soul was another matter.
'Hahaha!'
After its demise, the Overlord separated its soul from its body.
Now with its goal accomplished of learning the Lords' weakness and taking them away from their cities, it fled from the area.
