The team ran into a Stegosaurus Armatus, and now it was threatening them. It roared at them, as much as a stegosaurus could roar, and waved its spiky tail around. It tried to save itself from being hunted, or attacked, but its threatening behaviour was hardly effective in the eyes of an apex predator.
Gutaxun didn't budge. He didn't panic, he just lowered his head a little bit, to get a better view of the stegosaurus.
After some calculations, he started to get convinced that the best time to attack was perhaps half a minute away. He readied himself. The stegosaurus was facing him, so the plan was simple.
"Nechi, remind me, does this dinosaur use magic?" Anna asked, and she started panicking a little bit. "It's behaviour is odd. Stegs are stupid, sure, but this one looks confident and stupid."
"Steg? That's a spear spine, sweetie." Nechi corrected. "Their magic is always different, sometimes even special, so I don't know what type of magic this one has."
"Of course," She sighed, and her stress levels hit an all time high. "Come on, Gutaxun, we have to go. We'll find something else for you to eat."
Gutaxun did not understand her, of course, but he got a hint of what Anna wanted when he felt her pinches on his back. She prompted him to move to the left, away from the stegosaurus.
Hungry, Gutaxun did not budge. He stared at the stegosaurus, and was ready to take a calculative risk.
Ten seconds later, as the people on his back panicked, Gutaxun started approaching his target slowly, and watched as it backed away in fear.
"Gutaxun, no!" Anna protested.
She was worried, and she had reasons, but any bit of effort to stop him was futile. He kept approaching the stegosaurus, with his head lowered, tactically eyeing what he considered to be the stegosaurus' only weak spot. Its proportionally small head.
Startled, the stegosaurus started turning around. It wanted to use its spiked tail to hack and slash its troubles away.
However, since this was a species famous for its defensive abilities, it never really evolved to be a fast mover. It took shy of ten seconds to turn around, and Gutaxun considered its slow movements as an advantage, so he advanced. He started charging towards his target, as fast as he could, trying to clash with it before the stegosaurus managed to turn around.
Gutaxun closed the distance of twenty meters in roughly five seconds, and got a hold of the stegosaurus' head with his massive jaws!
Since he did not slow down during the exchange, he ended up dragging the steg along, by a few meters, which in turn helped him slow down. Though, even he was surprised that the stegosaurus was not dead yet.
The people on his back almost flew away, but Anna saved them. She has used her great strength to lock her legs on Gutaxun's back, preventing the others who hung on behind her, from flying off.
When the situation settled down, relatively speaking, she aimed her spear at the stegosaurus' leg, threw it with all her might, and sank most of it in her target's leg, rendering it partially immobile. That is, if getting bitten on the head by a massive predator didn't seal the deal already.
Gutaxun shook his prey's head, trying to crush it, and shred it. He was succeeding, because the spear to the leg, paired with Gutaxun's strong neck, locked the stegosaurus in place.
It could not fight back in any way whatsoever, and yet it refused to die, citing that its durability was one of a kind! Its head was supposed to be its weak spot, but it was somehow resisting a bite force of two-thousand pounds per square inch!
Gutaxun, and his species were known to have a weak bite force for an apex predator of such size, but still, this was getting ridiculous even in his eyes! He had killed a few stegosaurus before, and had not struggled as much. He shook his head violently, desperately trying to crack his prey's skull.
Seconds later, they saw the spikes from the end of the stegosaurus' tail splitting the air, and detaching from its body! It used its half-a-meter spikes as projectile weapons!
It was terrifying, it almost gave the team heart attacks, but thankfully, its aim was very terrible right now. The stegosaurus only managed to rip a tree out of the ground, roots and all, very far away from the team.
Its ability shocked them nonetheless, so they were hoping that this gruesome battle would end soon. They were hoping that Gutaxun could finish what he started!
However, when Anna saw that the stegosaurus was regenerating its tail spikes, all within seconds, she understood just how dangerous its magical abilities were!
Terrified that anyone she cared about would get hit, she grabbed another spear from her leather bag, and aimed at its tail.
This was a difficult task, as she also had to hold onto Gutaxun as he jerked his head left and right, as he tried to finish the kill. One slip and the three of them could fall to the ground, and break a few bones, or worse, get stepped on.
Anna tried her best to aim, she tried to focus, but she was running out of time. The stegosaurus regenerated all four of its spikes already, and in that half-awake state, it was getting ready to shoot again. Its second shot might be more effective, as the stegosaurus was getting a lot more desperate.
"Hah!" She grunted, and launched the spear at top speeds.
This was where her Dinosaur Strength came in handy, otherwise known as super strength. Any projectile she threw was immensely dangerous, if she managed to hit her target, that is.
The spear pierced through the air, and a split second later, she could see a bit of blood splatter a few meters ahead. She hit the stegosaurus, but she was hoping that she hit its tail.
The stegosaurus launched its spikes a second later, but it launched them upwards, towards the sky. This was bad as much as it was good.
The spikes didn't hit anyone in the team, they didn't hit Gutaxun either, but the fundamental laws of gravity were clear. What went up, must come down.
The stegosaurus' tail was essentially disabled, or at least locked in place since Anna had managed to hit it, but this did not stop its deadly tail entirely. It shot eight more spikes towards the sky in mere seconds.
The first set of spikes hadn't landed yet, so overall, they had twelve, two-foot long spikes to deal with, who were gaining great speeds as gravity was pulling them down!
"Gutaxun, run!" She exclaimed, and pinched him desperately, but he did not budge. He did not take a single step.
Gutaxun finally killed the stegosaurus. He crushed its head, and watched its body crash on the ground, as it heaved out its last breath. He won the battle, but unknowingly put everyone's lives at risk.
"Jesus, fuck!" She cussed out in frustration.
Afterwards, she stood up, and jumped above Gutaxun, and right towards the dead Stegosaurus with both of her feet facing forward, as if she tried to behave like a spear herself. She had a plan in mind.
