The fifth, and last giant standing finally fell to the ground. The short quake that followed after her fall was manageable, as it was expected.
The giant had a heart attack thanks to Jimmy, and afterwards, she also had a stroke. Jimmy didn't intend to cause the stroke, but it was a nice bonus, because it helped the giant die quicker. They didn't have to beat it to death.
Speaking of which, Gutaxun did a fantastic job. In a sense, he was like a large, intelligent attack dog, whose only intention was to kill. He sent three giants to an eternal slumber, by biting, and nibbling on their necks, until the lack of airflow killed the giants in under two to three minutes.
The giants were blind before they died, but they still had pairs of mean arms on them, and so when Gutaxun bit them, they tried to crush him to death. He expected such reactions, especially after the first giant tried to kill him, but he was able to dodge them all. He was fast, he was calculative, and he also scratched their windpipes with his claws, which was also effective, and much quicker.
Fast forward to five minutes later, each and every one of the giants were dead. It was not known where they came from, common sense itself did not support their existence, but as of today, nothing in regard to these five giants mattered anymore. They were wiped out.
Jimmy needed a moment to recover. He had used up a lot of his magic, otherwise better known as mana quantities, and he needed some time for his mana to be replenished. Other than that, his body was as stiff as a board from the attack he unleashed on the giants, so he wasn't in his best shape. He walked as if he had been power-drilled in the ass all night. He was disoriented, but at least he was recovering slowly.
"Do you think there's more of them? What if they attack our home?" Nechi asked, and she was quite worried. "We have kids back home."
Eni was close by. She had beamed over here once the giants were killed, and so she managed to answer Nechi's question.
"I've been running around in these parts all day. If there are more giants, they're far away from our home." She said, and she was being quite direct. "There's a reason we hide in the mountainside, it's because most big predators can't force their way into our cavern."
"But where did these ones come from?" Anna then asked. "I gotta know… I mean, common, it's pretty obvious that giant humans aren't supposed to exist. We have to get to the bottom of this, and figure out where they came from."
Sensing that his girlfriends were steering off topic, Jimmy interrupted them, and said, "They can be a threat to us every time we go out hunting, so yeah, I agree, we gotta learn where they came from. But not today, okay? Let's try and figure out if any of our hunters survived. It's what we came here for, after all."
Afterwards, they pressured Eni to give them any information she could think of, regarding the hunters. This large ditch they were in was littered with the bodies of familiar faces, tribe members of their own, which was depressing, but then again, there were only twenty normal, human corpses spread across the ditch. The rest of the seventy people were not here.
Eni didn't want to say it, but she also didn't want to give everyone false hope. She wiped away a few tears, and decided to be direct.
"The giants… they ate a lot of our friends." She said, as snot muffled her words. "The Field Runners might have saved a few of our friends, if they didn't flee like I did, but most of our hunters are probably dead. I'm sorry, I was too scared to help anyone, so I don't know where they are."
This matter became more and more complex, but they didn't blame Eni one bit. Anyone in their right mind would've fled if they saw these giants, and even Anna had considered fleeing earlier on. The only difference was that Anna thought of the one and only way that would leave these giants disabled, and vulnerable to a range of attacks, and thankfully, her plan was a success. But otherwise, it would be stupid to mess with giant humans.
Nevertheless, their day was not over yet. Eni didn't know where the rest of the tribesfolk were, but that didn't matter. The team had to look for the survivors, and bring them back home.
As for the twenty or so corpses that were littered across this large ditch, it was best to leave them be. They had no time to dig twenty graves for them, and figured that mother nature would take its course, and use these dead corpses as fertilizer. This was the way of the world. Grave or no grave, every living being will eventually end up as fertilizer.
The team had to move, so they hopped on Gutaxun's back, and started exploring the area. The survivors couldn't have gone too far, and hopefully, they'll be able to find the survivors before the end of the day.
Eni explored the perimeter at high speeds. She used her magical abilities to cover more ground, and by all odds, she'd find the survivors faster than anyone else would.
"My god… this world keeps getting weirder, and weirder." Anna said, as they rode on Gutaxun's back. "Like, what the fuck? I can understand that some bugs, and some animals used their magic to avoid extinction, but, giants? It makes no sense for them to exist! Not in any timeline!"
Anna was stunned. The need to put the puzzle together regarding the existence of the giants, was eating her alive. She craved to know how they evolved to be this big! Judging from how hairy they were, those beastly humanoids had been evolving for a few million years at least! Yet, their existence still did not make sense.
"If we take normal evolution out of the question, we can at least say that the giants had plenty of food to support themselves." Jimmy pointed out. "Survival was easy for them. They've eaten so much meat that their arteries were basically made of fat. I've seen into their blood, their organs… these giants are full-on carnivores. Hyper."
"Well…" Anna sighed. "That's one piece of the puzzle put together, but what you said isn't necessarily against normal evolution. Assuming they were always carnivores, meat might've even been a prime fuel throughout their evolution. The rest of the pieces of the puzzle are probably up a dinosaur's ass somewhere. Fuck's sake."
