A lot of things have happened in a short period of time. It was impossible not to get overwhelmed, but when the team saw the bunch of sixteen younglings sitting comfortably on top of Rampage's back, their worries melted away, and they felt that their troubles had been worthwhile!
The attack of the giant humans had been unprecedented, and unpredictable. Their very existence was an enigma, and the tribe didn't know where they came from. All they knew was that most of their hunters were wiped out, and that the survivors were left to deal with the consequences.
The young survivors on Rampage's back were from ages sixteen to twenty-one, so they were hardly experienced enough to hunt, but they could be trained, protected. In a few years, they'll have no trouble hunting without supervision.
The future didn't seem so bright, but the tribe was going to survive. They won't starve, and in a few years, the kids who are running around in the tribe now, will likely become hunters as well, so in theory, they should mostly rebuild their 'hunting army' in five to seven years. Plenty of moons to go, and summers to experience, but progress, in most forms, was supposed to be slow.
Anyway, before dusk, the team finally started heading home. With Zik and his pet to protect them, everyone was given a chance to catch up with their sleep, along with their pets. They slept until the sun had only an hour left to set over the horizon, before dusk.
Their eyes had been burning for sleep, so it was nice to finally get some. Before Zik found them, everyone in the team had been so sleepy that they were prone to hallucinations. This is one of the reasons why they found it so hard to believe when Zik popped up with a monster of a dinosaur, they thought they were hallucinating, and needed a moment to catch up with reality.
Everyone caught up with their sleep, and once they get home they were going to sleep some more, but for now, they had to cross the grasslands, which was going to be a long ride, even with dinosaurs at their disposal.
The distance between 'the edge' and the rocky mountains wasn't too long. It should only take eight hours to cross the grasslands, if they didn't rush their pets, but then the transition between the grasslands, and the rocky mountains was going to take a lot of time, because the tribe's home cavern was located high up in the rocky mountains.
Even with dinosaurs, it was a three-hour walk just to climb up the mountain. Thankfully, they didn't have to walk the dinosaurs to the steel-coated canal this time, which would take another couple of hours if they did.
The dinosaurs didn't have to be taken to the canal, because even though the rest of the tribe might get nervous about large predators sleeping near their home, Jimmy was certain that the pet dinosaurs were docile towards humans, regardless of who those humans were. They weren't hostile.
Rampage was a bit of a problem, not only because he was absurdly violent, but also because he weighed one-hundred and seventy metric tons! One wrong step, and he could make the home cavern cave in on itself. He had to keep his distance a little bit, but otherwise they didn't have to worry about where they had to park their dinosaurs. No apex predator will bother their pets with an Argentinosaurus sleeping nearby.
Anyway, they started their journey to get back home. They had a solid one hundred miles, or one-hundred and sixty kilometers of grasslands to cross, and then another twenty-five miles, or roughly forty kilometers of the rocky mountains to climb. It was a long ride, and if they're lucky, they should make it home shortly after the crack of dawn, tomorrow.
…
One hour after they started moving, the team quickly ran into some trouble. To no one's surprise, they saw two giant humans, the same kind who had massacred most of the tribe's hunters. It appeared that they were preparing to fall asleep for the night, in a large burrow they dug.
If giants were peaceful, the team wouldn't bother them and be on their way, but these large freaks of nature were anything but peaceful. The moment they saw Rampage, the largest Argentinosaurus to ever step on the grasslands, they got very excited, as they believed that they were going to eat the biggest meal of their lives, served to them on a golden plate.
The size comparison between them and Rampage was large, like a human against an ostrich. The humans might think they can take down an ostrich bare handed, but they don't account for the strong legs that ostriches had, or their beaks which could poke an eye out. These giants were just as cocky, just as stupid, and just as short.
They ran right past the other dinosaurs, and rushed towards Rampage, which in their eyes, was the biggest meal of them all.
Rampage did not back down. He was twice as tall as them, many times heavier, so with mother nature's defects backing him up, he rushed towards the giants head on, quite certain that the people on his back wouldn't fly off in the collision. He was sure he'd flatten these giants without breaking a sweat, or heaving a sweat, since he didn't have sweat glands.
Before they could collide, however, they saw Anna with her pet Quetzalcoatlus Northropi, otherwise known as Bonita, land on top of one of the giant's heads.
In a split second, Bonita then bent over forwards, and bashed her large, two and a half meter, or eight foot beak, straight through the giant's eye!
The human eye was the most vulnerable part of one's body, even in giants! In this case, Bonita pierced through its eye, and straight through the giant's brain!
"Haha!" Anna exclaimed.
This was no lobotomy, she killed the giant on the spot! The giant started crashing down immediately, like a large tree, with its running momentum converting into a crash that shook the ground around it like a medium magnitude earthquake!
Everyone was shocked when they saw Anna take a giant down all by herself, but then again, they weren't cold towards the possibility. The Quetzalcoatlus Northropi was this world's version of a violent cassowary, except they could also fly, and furthermore, Bonita could beat most humans in an IQ test. She was one of the most dangerous animals on the planet!
Rampage took care of the second giant. He rammed it sideways with his thick, long neck, and tossed the giant tens of feet away! He broke its spine with one hit, killing it by blunt force!
Afterwards, to show his dominance even further, he then walked over to the giant he killed, and stepped on its head, crushing it. This was his signature move.
"Good job, Rampage!" Zik yelled out from the top of his lungs.
Zik was safe, and so were the sixteen other young passengers that were riding on Rampage's back. They barely felt a thing.
"Two giants down, two less to worry about." Zik said, proud of monstrous friend, and himself. "I'm the fucking best, haha!"
