Anna and Jimmy saw what appeared to be a human in front of them. What they saw was a bit far away, but this was hardly a problem.
In order not to spook whatever was in front of them, they started jogging, slowly, and cautious of their every step. They didn't want to scare away the only speck of hope they had.
The two of them approached their target with mixed emotions. They didn't know how to feel, and certainly, they didn't know what to expect.
When they got fifty meters, or about a hundred and sixty feet close to their target, they confirmed that it was a human. Its head movements, as it looked left and right, were very human. There was no mistaking it.
Once they got a few meters closer, this person, this human, turned around, and faced them. It was a woman, likely in her thirties. She had a strong, sturdy body.
The woman didn't run away from them, she didn't flinch, or clench her spear tighter, no. She was calm, as if she was just as happy to see another friendly face around here.
The two sides eventually met, and the woman greeted them with a voice that sounded feral at first. However, Jimmy and Anna could understand her, thankfully.
"Hello, young hunters!" She spoke up. "Back again so soon? How was the hunt?"
"Bad," Anna answered. "We were attacked by Compies, twelve of them, and we decided that it wasn't worth it to push our luck any further. It wasn't safe."
"Compies?" The woman tilted her head, confused. "What are those? Remind me."
Anna had taken the liberty of communicating with this woman, because she believed she could communicate without risking their actual identity. Despite her confidence, she was performing poorly so far.
That was when Jimmy stepped in, and said, "Yeah, that's what we call those tiny menaces. You know, the green ones? We killed all twelve of them, but we feared that there could be tens of them in the area, so we made a run for it."
"Well, I'm glad you're safe." The woman said. "Let's head back home, then, and give some peace of mind to your parents."
The two of them agreed, but worry struck them as soon as they heard the woman say 'parents'. Other than the fact that they had no idea where they were going as they had no recollection of where 'home' was, they were also struck with the possibility that they may be siblings in this world!
'She said parents, maybe that's plural for two sets of parents? Maybe she's not that good with linguistics? She's a cavewoman, after all.' Anna thought, as she tried to reach out for any string of hope she could find.
Jimmy was under deeper panic, and as they walked together, he thought, 'Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Did I make my sister give me a handjob? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!'
Undoubtedly, he was in deep internal panic, and didn't know what to do about it. The fact of the matter was that it was irrelevant where their souls came from. In these bodies, there was a good chance that they were siblings, and if that were true, then every bit of romantic interest they had in each other, had to be annulled immediately.
They'd be comfortable if they were third cousins in this world, as they had agreed before, but dating a sibling was out of the question. Neither of them were that insane, or desperate.
Anyway, after an hour, they made it home, or the place that their people called home. It was an impressive place.
Not only was their home located in a large Cavern, which had a small two-foot wide entrance that most dinosaurs couldn't slip through, but the Cavern was also reinforced with tall, steel beams! In other words, their home was dinosaur proof, collapse-proof, and could even resist some natural disasters!
"Awesome," Anna whispered, and touched Jimmy's elbow. "Looks safe."
"Yeah," He nodded. "We'll sleep well tonight."
They walked past a shallow body of water at the entrance of the cavern, and followed a rigid path that led them upwards by a few meters. Despite popular belief, it was obvious that even cavemen had some sense of what a strategic advantage was. The fact that they didn't sleep close to the entrance was a great portrayal of their analytical capabilities.
"Smart," He nodded, as they followed the path.
Deeper into the cavern, they saw more humans, a lot of them actually. Although it was hidden into the mountainside, the Cavern was not restricted in size, as they discovered. It was one-hundred meters, or over three-hundred feet wide, and therefore useful when it came to housing a large number of humans.
"Wow," Anna whispered. "I'm counting at least forty of them."
Jimmy whispered back, "What about the ones you can't count? Look at those tunnels over there, and all the steel beams… Our home was built to last, so we gotta assume there are at least a hundred of them."
The assumptions they made, shone with probability. This cavern was simply too big to house just a handful of humans. It was a safe haven that protected them from the dangers of the outside world, so naturally, it supported reproduction effectively!
Anyway, Jimmy and Anna met with their parents a moment later. The absolute sigh of relief they heaved when they saw that they had different sets of parents, was beyond dramatic. They were over the moon!
'Thank god,' They both thought.
However, they weren't completely out of the woods yet. Humans from primal ages had a tendency to indulge in incest, simply because of necessity, and the survival of their bloodline. This might also be the case here, in the Jurassic Era.
For that matter, there was a good chance that Anna and Jimmy were related in this era. If they were first cousins, for example, then romance would be out of the question. If they were second-cousins, Charles Darwin might agree with them, but it wasn't any better.
However, this was a problem for another day. It was unlikely that they were going to have sex tonight, so they were calm.
For now, it was best if they spent some time exploring their surroundings. They didn't bear any memories of the former body owners, and they were hoping that they'd regain some of those memories, if they explored the Cavern, and talked with the friendly people around them.
The former body owners used to call this place home, so logically, or biologically, there was a slim chance that Anna and Jimmy could tap into the memories of these formal body owners. It would be advantageous if they did, because at the very least, they could avoid incest.
