Hellbound With The Vampire King

Chapter 81: Soul thread

She felt him sit beside her. The place was so quiet and Eiravyn was so quiet that you would be able to hear a pin drop.

She waited for him to talk — maybe an explanation or anything.

But he did not speak, nor did he move from where he was seated.

Serena could not take it anymore; the anger she thought had subsided came back with a force of its own because of his silence, and with that force Serena stood up, her back turned to him.

"I want to go back home." Serena said in a solid and firm voice.

"That's not a problem, Kitten. We can go to your room." Eiravyn said.

But Serena shook her head. Without looking at him, she said. "I want to go back to the human realm, to the people who value and respect me and never lied to me."

A cool tingling swept over her skin, almost as though countless feathers were stroking her body.

Her long red hair clung to the sides of her face as the icy breeze sent shivers down her spine.

Serena couldn't say how much time had passed, but the man behind her was sitting still.

Eiravyn saw the light flash in his eyes, and he could see one glowing thread: blue.

The color — he recognized — was an energetic cords currently attached to his soul.

The soul tie had been bonded to him because Serena was his mate, and the thread was connected to her, he could see the thread was also surrounding her, hers was red.

But he was sure she could not se it; Serena's soul thread was thin and his was thicker. Was it because Serena wanted to reject him? Eiravyn thought to himself.

He experimented with the blue thread so that he could figure out it's full effect.

It was then that he realized it was because of this thread he could feel Serena's emotions and what she was feeling and by directly touching it — it was invisible —- he could access Serena's mind.

Eiravyn noticed that the walls of her mind were as pure and serene as the Pacific Ocean.

It was frighteningly beautiful and peaceful.

Eiravyn panicked when he saw that the blue thread that connected him to Serena's soul was growing weak.

Eiravyn groaned pitifully and released a shaky and desperate breath and hugged her from behind making all air leave Serena's lung as she was caught in surprise by the sudden movement.

Eiravyn had listened to everything that happened by reading the servants' and Ava's minds, and he knew why Serena was behaving like this. It was all his fault.

"Serena…" he murmured, calling her by her name for the very first time.

"Please do not leave me."

Serena felt the painful, and agonizing whisper of his voice as his voice dropped to a low octave; as he said those words, a single tear dropped from her cheeks, from the desperate chord of his voice. Why are her self-destructive tendencies resurfacing whenever Eiravyn gets close?

She had promised herself that she would not cry because of him but she was already crying with just a few words from him, Serena wiped the tear drop away and turned to face him, making him release his hold on her.

"It was all a mistake Eiravyn. If I had known you had someone who is desperate and willing to marry you. Someone everyone in the kingdom already loves and respected, I would never have come with you…" she paused, her voice holding pain.

"I can't stay here anymore. What were you trying to do?" She asked him, but did not wait for him to talk.

"You already planned the banquet tonight for her and then you lied to me that it was my banquet ceremony. I can't believe I fell for that and now…"

Serena's eyes were burning, but she refused to cry.

She is not a crybaby.

Her voice turned low. "I can't be the other girl, Eiravyn."

Eiravyn was shock to hear this. "What?" He was getting confused the more she spoke.

"Where did you get that from?" Eiravyn asked.

He had not heard about this and just assumed she most likely thought he was still in a relationship with Ava. Since he only heard fragments of their thoughts. This was news to him.

"Ava said she is the soon-to-be queen and it was her banquet ceremony tonight. What use am I staying here for, then?"

Eiravyn's face contorted in fury when he heard this, as he finally understood why she felt betrayed by him.

"This is all a misunderstanding kitten, the banquet happening today is for you and no one else." Eiravyn stated as he looked at his mate, his one true mate. The only person that made his heart race so wildly.

"Then…" Serena's voice trailed off.

But Eiravyn caught her off. "She's someone the elders are pressuring me to marry, but I've never accepted that ridiculous proposal, the banquet ceremony tonight is for you and you only, even she knows it unless she was trying to mess with you which I will get to the bottom of soon." Eiravyn answered in anger.

"I know I should have set boundaries with her; she seemed to still think we're still kids, but I promise you i have never considered marrying her for one day, and the only person I want is you. Little Kitten."

Serena studied his face for a long time and saw that he was telling the truth, and for once since she knew him, the lopsided grin he always had on his face was nowhere in sight, but Serena wanted to be sure.

"Who is she to you then? Because she looked so confident that she would be your queen and the servants treated her with respect."

Eiravyn wondered how he could answer this question without making her angry again.

"She's someone I grew up with. Back when my parents were still here and I was always alone, she would always keep me company. I consider her like my little sister, nothing else." Eiravyn said in a clear voice, as he searched desperately for his mate's face.
