CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror

Chapter 102: Recharge

That's right. Their eyes and ears might fool them. But their skin did not. She could still feel the water on her boots where the grass was.

This made Aurora realize that the illusion the wraith was making had a limitation. The limitation was touch.

It could make Aurora feel the pain that wasn't there. But if she focused, she didn't feel anything on her skin at all. Same with those ice spikes. She felt the pain from them but not the cold they're supposed to give her.

The water on the ground froze instantly and with that the temperature of the entire area.

"Heh. I know what to do." Crow answered. But his body was still invisible.

He turned into a shadow and seeped under the invisible frozen water surface. Crow's ability allowed him to run on two dimensional surfaces. He couldn't run on water because the water was not stable. Ice on the other hand had no issue.

The skeletal elk ran to the middle of the lake. It ran on the water of the lake, an illusion that was still present.

"Come to me, Bash." Aurora said.

Bash quickly rushed to her side. He leaned his back against the Glacial Elk.

"Bash's here!" The demon tapped his chest.

"Glacial Arrows!" The elk breathed out a cloud of white smoke.

20 arrows of clear ice appeared around Bash and Aurora. They shot in all directions simultaneously.

"Glacial Arrows!" The elk shouted once more.

More arrows appeared and shot randomly. The arrows mapped out the true scenery of the area. It was still the swamp with crowded tropical trees everywhere.

The arrows impaled into what's supposed to be a humanoid figure. It stumbled on the ground and tried to pull the arrows out. Its spiritual skin was slowly revealed because of the Death Ice.

The ice ate into its skin and turned them gray.

The wraith didn't have a chance to run as Crow dashed through the invisible ice surface and emerged right behind it.

"Peek-a-boo!" Crow drove the Nether Spear through its body.

Dark veins started to spread.

The destruction of darkness and the calling of death destroyed its illusion in a blink of an eye.

The entire area returned to its original appearance. The dark night, the green trees, and the brown muddy water.

The wraith was a patch-up doll with several seamlines on its body. A fabrication just like its illusion.

"Should we keep it alive, Master?" Crow said.

"I don't like dolls. Finish it." The black cat meowed.

Crow pulled out the spear and swiped it at the wraith's neck, decapitating it in one strike.

The headless body flopped to the ground and the head rolled to the cat's feet. Mater stopped the head with his paw and drained out the Chaos inside it.

Chaos Spheres popped up inside Mater. Another 10 spheres were added to the storage. Mater now had 34 Chaos Spheres in total.

"Level 7? Damn. This thing is higher in level than all of them. It poured all of its Chaos into its illusion power.

Its illusion was tricky too. It can fool the eyes, ears, and even cause pain. It could easily break the victim's mind without even lifting a finger."

The wraith did have a very unique ability. But Mater didn't really want it. The illusion ability was too easily discovered if the enemy had a vision ability like Mater's Chaos Eyes.

Aurora turned back to her human form. The three of them gathered in front of Mater.

"Alright. Status report. How full is your Chaos Well?" The black cat meowed.

"I didn't use that much Chaos, Master. Still at around 60%." Crow said.

"I used quite a lot, Master. I only have 10% left." Aurora said.

"Bash has eight red balls. One is missing." Bash scratched his head and said.

"Alright. Use up the Chaos Spheres I gave you and have some more."

Aurora and Crow each held two Chaos Spheres from Mater. They used them up.

Crow was almost filled up to max. Mater gave him one to fully recover and another four to reserve in case he needed to refill in the next fight.

Aurora was filled up to around 30%. Mate gave her another six to fill up to max and another six in case she needed to refill in battle. As a caster, Aurora used Chaos a lot so she needed more energy.

Mater filled Bash's energy with one Chaos Sphere. He didn't give Bash reserve because unfortunately, this brick head didn't know how to do that. The Infernal Demon didn't use that much Chaos either. It ran around like crazy in the last battle but barely lost any Chaos.

In the end, Mater had 16 Chaos Spheres left.

"Alright. We should be arriving in Onoke Lake very soon." Mater meowed. "I will join you in this next fight."

"It is an honor to fight with you, Master." Crow said.

"Your wish is my command, Master." Aurora bowed.

"Bash kills for Master!" Bash tapped his chest.

The black cat then turned to Selina, his deep voice echoed. "In the next fight, you should watch closely. It will help with your development later.

You will also become our bait as well."

"What do you mean 'bait'?" Selina tilted her head in confusion.

Mateo and Sheriff Carter arrived at the area of the living forest. That place was in ruin with trees being pulled up the ground and two giant holes created by Bash previously.

The Silver Hunter squatted down and touched a hole on the ground.

"This can't be the wraith in the lake." Mateo said.

Carter nodded. "It rarely goes on land."

"Is there a known NCE that can cause this?"

"Not that I know of. From the reports of surviving hunters, there are an environmental NCE, an NCE that can mess with your head, and another with a bird skull as its head. They are the most powerful NCEs outside of the fish wraith in recent years.

This is not one of them.

But what I don't understand is… Why didn't we encounter any of those three?"

"Something killed them. Something that made this hole." Mateo talked slowly. He lost all of the previous childishness.

"There is another investigator that came to our town for the bounty. Her name is Selina Ises. She did say that she would take care of the NCE."

"Silver?"

"Her Badge was bronze."

"No bronze could cause this. That little girl may be dead already."

Carter stayed silent. He didn't think that she died. But many talented Psychics fell in the darkness of this swamp before. He would not be surprised if Selina was also caught off guard.

The Sheriff took his hat off. "I hope you are wrong."
