Doctor Avaline stood at the entrance of the Institute as the police car stopped in front of him.
Selina got out of the car.
"Dr. Avaline? You didn't need to come yourself." Selina said.
"I must. Especially for the most talented student in recent years." Dr. Avaline's gray hair was still standing up like they had a dozen bottles of wax on them.
"Please. You embarrassed me." Selina scratched her head. Everything she was able to achieve was thanks to Mater.
She knew to keep everything as a secret but she couldn't help but feel undeserving of the praises.
Dr. Avaline laughed. "I only told the truth."
Mater climbed down from the back seat and looked around. The Institute was still as he remembered. Big campus with many large buildings that formed the shape of a square.
Lucy got out of the driver's seat. "Let me help you with those suitcases."
"Please. You've already done too much." Selina said.
"Don't worry. We're friends after all." Lucy smiled.
With the help of Lucy and the unbelievable muscular Dr. Avaline, they carried her suitcases inside the dormitories of the Institute.
The dormitories were a group of buildings on the far side of the Institute reserved for students and visiting scientists. The professors stayed in a different section.
"Your room is 3120. Apart from you, there is also another student in this room. She has left the Institute for a home visit so she won't be returning for a few days." Dr. Avaline said.
They stood at the entrance of the female dormitory as he gave her a key with the number 3120 on it.
"Unfortunately, this is the farthest I can go. You will have to carry these suitcases for the rest of the way. The elevator is down the hall."
"Thank you very much, Dr. Avaline."
The scientist smiled. "No worries, Miss Isles. After all, it's the least I can do after what you did for Ziegler."
"You knew him?" Selina widened her eyes slightly.
"Yes. We're colleagues once. But his daughter died in a tragic accident.
He… never got over it. I think what you did was the best. For him. And for his daughter."
Selina sighed. But she quickly got back her positivity.
"I will see you in class, Doctor."
"Oh. I don't teach class personally. But I will come to watch you perform. Bye bye."
Dr. Avaline waved and smiled, seeing Selina and Lucy walking inside the dormitory with the black cat.
His golden eyes flashed red repeatedly as he scanned the Institute.
'There are a lot of strong Psychics in this place. There is even a powerful Rank 2 Supernatural Being with a very high chance of becoming Rank 3. Selina could sleep peacefully here.'
The group entered the elevator and went to Selina's room.
The dormitory of the Institute was much bigger and more luxurious than an ordinary dormitory. Her 3120 'room' was basically an apartment with two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms.
It had a wide window looking out to the campus in the living room.
"Holy…" Selina dropped the suitcases and rushed to the window and looked down to the beautiful view outside.
"This would cost what? At least a few thousands credits. But I can just stay here for free?"
Lucy chuckled gently.
"Do you know how many students there are in this Institute?"
"I don't know… A few thousands maybe?"
Lucy shook her head. Then she raised one finger.
"One thousand."
"That doesn't seem that few."
"There are 100,000 registered Bounty Hunters in our country."
Lucy took out her own Ankh Badge. It was a Bronze one, similar to Selina. But it was not a Bounty Hunter Badge. "I am a police officer. We technically are different from you freelancers but operate in the same way. There are around another 25,000 Psychics working for the government.
In total, we have around 125,000 Psychics and a minor few that don't register.
So. Only 1 in 125 Psychics can attend the Institute of Supernatural Phenomenon."
"Well. If you put it that way, it does sound a lot less."
Lucy grabbed Selina's arms tightly. "It's not about the number. The police… Especially Alister, hate the Institute. Because it is technically an independent organization from the government.
What I want to say is… You have an incredible chance here, Selina. A chance to have your own freedom. I want you to understand how lucky you are and don't waste it!"
Selina smiled softly. The goth girl hugged the police women gently. "I understand, Lucy. Don't worry. I will work hard and become stronger."
Lucy sighed. "Then I am glad. Well. I need to go now or Alister would be mad."
"Be careful out there!" Selina waved goodbye.
The black cat coughed out five Chaos Spheres on the floor.
Crow's head emerged and swallowed the red spheres.
"Take those as contingency energy. Follows Carpenter closely. I want to know if she's the hacker." The black cat meowed.
Crow nodded. "On it, Master!"
Crow seeped under the floor and followed Carpenter outside.
Selina picked Mater up. They both watched Lucy leaving in her car from the window.
"I hope she's not the spy." Selina said. "She's really nice. It'd be a pity to kill her."
"And what if she is?" The black cat's deep voice echoed.
Selina scratched Mater's head gently. "We just need to do what we need to do."
Mater purred in Selina's arms. "You really are my woman."
The goth girl picked Mater up and sniffed him. "You stink!"
"Well. What do you expect? We fought a fish man in a swamp." The black cat meowed in disdain.
"Time for a shower!"
The fur on the black cat stood up as it wailed loudly.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I REFUSE TO BE DEFILED AGAIN!"
He was defiled again in the shower with Selina. The black cat acted like he hated it but his eyes kept fluttering when Selina's soft hands went over his body. It was almost like an intimate massage when you're completely naked.
His fur felt completely awful with water though. Luckily Selina brought the hair dryer with her and blew the cat dry.
"Ah… My favourite section after showering."
The black cat was squeezed by the, once again topless, goth girl to sleep.
Selina didn't even have a good nap. Those mercenaries came and ruined her night. There was not much left to do anyway so Mater enjoyed his sweet and soft cushion.
Crow squinted his white eyes. He was sitting behind Lucy in the car when she picked up the phone.
"It's me, Master. She's alive." Lucy said.
