Mater's own Chaos tentacles reached the green sphere and enveloped it. Because this sphere of Chaos wasn't pure, he needed to process it extra carefully.
His own Chaos was mixed with the green sphere before he dissolved it and absorbed whatever power was inside.
"2,150 kilometers."
Mater's eyes flashed green. The green sphere didn't yield any more Chaos than usual but it had a gift inside.
In Mater's head, a structure of a new spell was formed.
[Water Clones]
[Rank]: 1
[Effect]: Create up to three identical clones of yourself from an existing water source. These clones do not have a mind of their own and can exist for a maximum of twelve hours or when their Chaos run out. They can accomplish basic simple tasks but cannot do complicated tasks. You can take control of a clone from a maximum of 10 kilometers away. The clones can inherit one Rank 1 spell of your choice that you can use. Each clone has the innate passive ability Body Liquification.
[Cooldown]: 24 hours
[Body Liquification]
[Effect]: Innate passive ability of Water Clones. The clones can transform into a state of half solid and half liquid. Their bodies operate and react similar to water. The clones must expend their own Chaos to remain in this state.
Mater opened his slit-pupils golden eyes. The spell had completely solidified in his head and could be inscribed into the Dark Grimoire at any time.
"A new spell. Interesting. The green sphere contained not only the wraith's chaos but also some of its power.
By devouring the green sphere, I was able to learn a unique spell that exists only in this world."
The black cat licked its lips. It just went up to level 4, opening up another blank page in the Dark Grimoire for a new spell.
Mater had collected quite a lot of spells in his past life. He was now in a crossroads of choices.
To inscribe the new spell that he just learned.
Or to inscribe one of his previous spells.
"What do I really need right now?
Chains of Shadow to restrict the enemy's movement.
Desperation Scream as a distance controlling and close-range damaging tool.
Page of Imprisonment to trap wraiths and store my minions.
Chaos Eyes to trace signs of Chaos.
Nether Shot as a powerful long-range damaging spell.
Crow's Call disorients wraiths and undead.
I also have Aurora. She has Ice Cage, Ice Spikes, and Glacial Elk. All three are long-range spell casting attacks.
If I really am to pick a new spell, a movement spell can cover my weakness.
An illusion spell is also good, it is useful in certain scenarios.
Dark Whispers from before to influence the humans.
There is also the need for a helper spell that can help me with mundane or miscellaneous tasks.
Hmmm... What to choose. What to choose."
The black cat got up from the bed and walked to the kitchen. Selina was in her underwear with only a thin flimsy camisole top.
She was cooking something fishy. The smell of fish filled the air and made Mater's stomach churned.
"Oh? You awake already? I'm making breakfast." Selina smiled softly.
Mater got up on the table and patted his paw on the glass surface.
Selina chuckled. "I know. I know. I will put it on the table for you."
Her cat was different from the usual cats. Not only did it want to eat on the table. It also wanted its food to be served on a dish just like a human would.
Her little prince was extremely picky.
Selina quickly finished up the cooking and arranged the food on the table.
Mater had a frying fish, his favorite. While Selina had some bacon and eggs, the usual.
Mater grabbed a piece of bacon to put it in his mouth.
"Hey, that's mine!" Selina scowled.
Mater rolled his eyes and continued chewing the bacon. "Eh... Not as good as I remember. Fish is still the best."
The pair continued with their breakfast. Selina couldn't help but reach her hand out from time to time to stroke the smooth black fur of Mater.
Mater allowed her to pet him. After all, she had been a very good servant. Cooking for him and all.
"A miscellaneous spell isn't that needed. I can ask Selina for help if I need anything. I also have Aurora, which can help me a lot.
There are only the illusion spell, the movement spell, and Dark Whispers.
Those three against Water Clones.
Actually... Thinking about it. I don't really have much need for those spells at the moment. I can always fill the Dark Grimoire with these spells later if I want to.
The Water Clones spell, however, is unique. It is the first spell I learn in this world. I'd like to test it out." Mater thought silently.
After breakfast, he called forth the Dark Grimoire. The leathery book flew out from Selina's backpack and landed in front of Mater.
Mater had never inscribed in front of Selina. He didn't intend to hide anyway.
The book snapped open. First, Aurora jumped out of the book.
"Eek!" Selina shrunk back on the couch. Even though Mater had told her about the girl in the book. She still couldn't prepare herself mentally for the sight.
Aurora smiled faintly at Selina. "Hello again!" Before her expression turned back to coldness.
Mater meowed.
"My master is going to inscribe a spell soon. Don't be so surprised." Aurora said.
"Spell? What you've been using are spells?! You are a magical cat?" Selina's jaw dropped.
"He is a warlock actually. A dark lord that shall rule this world." Aurora said.
Selina covered her mouth. She couldn't help but laugh.
"Why is it so fitting for this evil cat?"
Mater rolled his eyes.
"My master will need your help with something soon. It is related to my well-being." Aurora said.
Selina nodded immediately. "Don't worry, Aurora. Whatever you need, I will help you. Including finding whoever killed you!"
"Thank you..." Aurora tilted her head slightly. She didn't understand what Selina was saying but she felt warmth inside her cold frame.
'Is this what they call... gratitude.' Aurora thought to herself.
The Dark Grimoire flipped to the eighth page. Mater extended his claw and poured Chaos into it.
He inscribed onto the eight page the new spell that he had just learned, Water Clones.
A painting quickly took form on the page. It was the image of three faceless humanoid figures rotating around a man.
When Mater finished, colors flooded to the page. Each of the faceless clones had a green color while the man in the middle emanated a red Chaos color.
