"What are you doing here, Selina?" Mater meowed.
Selina's face lit up in joy.
"Mr. Mater?! You're alive! I was so worried about you!"
Selina picked the black cat up from the book and hugged him tightly.
The black cat widened his eyes in surprise.
"Right... She can't understand me. Aurora isn't here." Mater meowed.
Selina raised Mater up in front of her face. "Are... are the people okay? What happened to the wraith?"
The black cat stroked its whiskers. It was thinking of a way to describe the situation to Selina. Suddenly, it remembered some memes it saw on the internet.
The black cat raised one of its front toes up, imitating the thumbs up gesture of humans. Its face, however, looked extremely indifferent, even a little bit annoyed. Everything contributed to an image that made Selina laugh out loud.
"You look ridiculous, Mr. Mater!"
The black cat scratched its head. It didn't even understand what was so funny.
"Meow!" The black cat pointed to the entrance.
Mater and Selina exited the sewer. They arrived just in time to see the police. Detective Baltimore stepped out from the police car.
Rebecca was still there, leaning on the side of the gate.
"Martinez? Why are you here?" Alister blurted out.
"You know her?" Selina said.
The detective nodded. "Unfortunately, yes. Even though she is a spoiled brat, her detective skill is respectable."
"You hear that, my detective skill is unmatchable!" Rebecca tapped her chest proudly.
"Respectable." Alister corrected her.
"Whatever. But hey! I am not a spoiled brat!" Rebecca shrieked.
"Well, Selina. What is going on in there?" Alister ignored the short girl and turned to the goth girl.
"The eight missing people are in there. The NCE, however... isn't."
"What happened?" Alister raised an eyebrow.
"It is hard to explain." Selina shared a strained smile. The cat was alive so naturally the wraith was destroyed. But Selina didn't know how to explain it.
She didn't even have the chance to see what the wraith looked like.
"I see. Do you need medical attention? If you don't, you can leave. I will call you later to make a report."
"I am fine, Detective. I will be leaving now."
The goth girl held the cat and the Dark Grimoire in her arms. She walked away quickly, hoping the police wouldn't ask more questions that she couldn't answer.
"Hey, Selina?" Suddenly, Alister called out to her.
"Yes, Detective?" Selina's hair shot up but she tried to act calm outside.
"I will arrange an examination for you in The Institute soon. You should officially register as a Psychic. It will smooth out everything in the long run."
"Of course, Detective." Selina shared a smile then walked away. Her figure shrank the farther she was on the undeveloped land.
The media and journalists soon got wind of the story. They gathered around the sewer entrance and took as many pictures as they could.
Alister did his best to keep the vultures away but news and articles quickly appeared on the internet.
Some journalists spotted Rebecca.
"Is that Detective Martinez? Isn't she a very popular detective on social media?"
"Did she figure out the truth behind the NEO Mall missing cases?"
The vultures cornered Martinez and pointed the microphones at her.
"Dt. Martinez! What is happening? Did you or the police find the missing people?"
"Who is behind the murder, Dt. Martinez? Is it truly a serial killer?"
"Are the victims alive?"
"Okay. Okay. Calm down. One single question at a time." Rebecca once again had that smug look on her face. She was very familiar with the media.
"We do have some news about the missing cases. But I can't tell you anything about it. The ACPD should announce everything soon."
"Did you solve the case, Dt. Martinez?"
Alister turned his gaze toward Rebecca. Rebecca was a long time paranormal investigator and bounty hunter. He wasn't worried that she would say something she shouldn't. But he did worry that she might want to take all the credits.
Rebecca was always the one that thirsted for attention.
Rebecca sighed. "No. It has nothing to do with me."
Alister smiled silently. "At least you can still be honest."
Selina and Mater found a night bus to return.
On the bus, Selina held Mater tightly in her arms and whispered to him.
"Where is Aurora, Mr. Mater?" Selina said.
Mater pointed to the Dark Grimoire.
"She is in the book?!"
The black cat nodded.
"Can she get out again?"
The black cat nodded.
"This is crazy. My cat can use supernatural power and it has a minion inside a book. Everything just feels a little bit too wild lately." Selina mumbled to herself and for Mater to hear.
The black cat stretched its body then patted Selina's head. "There. There. You have nothing to worry about."
They returned to her house, had a meal and fell into a deep slumber. The black cat slipped into Selina's shirt to sleep again. The goth girl didn't seem to mind also and enjoyed the softness of the cat.
Morning came. Every news channel in Aeliz City broadcasted about the missing people in NEO Mall.
"The ACPD confirmed that the missing people have been found."
"All the victims are alive and well. They only suffer from minor malnutrition because of the horrible situation they were in."
"The ACPD has not confirmed the identity of the perpetrator but they did confirm that the threat was neutralized."
"With the increase of murder and kidnapping, is Aeliz City even worthy to live in anymore? Stay tuned as Dr. King will be shedding more light on the criminal rate of Aeliz City..."
Mater yawned. His golden eyes fluttered open. His tiny nose twitched gently.
"Um... Fish. Someone is cooking fish."
The black cat stretched his body. Selina had already left the bed.
Mater looked into his body and saw the eight rotating spheres, seven were red and one was green.
"It's time to dissolve these Chaos."
Mater willed the Chaos to enter his heart and bloodstreams, furthering his Chaos Infusion level.
"1,800 kilometers!"
"1,850 kilometers!"
"1,900 kilometers!"
"1,950 kilometers!"
"2,000 kilometers!"
"Level 4!"
"2,050 kilometers!"
"2,100 kilometers!"
The black cat had once again advanced a level. Its entire body trembled because of the pleasure.
"There is still one sphere left. The weird one..." Mater looked at the last green sphere around his heart.
