Spheres of Chaos popped up around Mater's heart. One sphere. Two spheres. Three spheres…
When he finished, fifteen Chaos Spheres circled around his heart.
Mater licked his mouth like he just finished a delicious meal. The corpses on the floor had all disappeared, leaving only five piles of ash.
"Let's go, Crow."
"Yes, Master."
They left the basement. Selina took a peek down the room. She saw the piles of ash next to each other.
It didn't take a genius to understand what had happened.
Mater wiped his face with his small cat paw and looked at Selina.
"Feeling surprised? Do you understand what I am now, woman. Do you still wish to accompany me?" Mater meowed.
Crow delivered his message to Selina.
The goth girl squatted down and petted the cat gently. She shared a wide grin.
"Why wouldn't I, Mr. Mater? It's not like I care about those scoundrels."
Mater pushed his head into her hand and purred.
"I know there was a darkness inside you somewhere, Selina. I always know it. Since the first time we met."
Mater climbed onto her shoulder.
"I will soon be the dark lord of this world. And you shall stand by my side as its queen."
Selina pushed her face into the cat and sniffed his fur.
"As you said… Mater." Her dark eyes flashed red briefly.
The amount of time she had spent with Mater had also exposed her to pure malevolent Chaos. She was a simple Psychic no more.
The group exited Marlon's farm house.
Selina took out her phone and called the Sheriff. Sooner or later, this house would be found out and the destruction inside it would be questioned. Rather than ignoring it and making herself suspicious, Selina had other plans.
"Sheriff Carter? I am Selina. I visited Colonel Marlon Stewart' house. He isn't at his house. The place is also ransacked. It's better if you come and look at it yourself."
Sheriff Carter and his deputies, around ten of them, quickly went to Marlon's house. They set up a perimeter around the house and began to investigate the scene.
"You saw anything else inside?" Sheriff Carter stood with the group and asked them questions while his deputies went inside the house.
"No, Sheriff." Selina shook her head. Aurora and Crow had already jumped inside the book, leaving only her and Mater outside.
"Alrighty then. This will be the talk of the town tomorrow. You got any leads about those Fake Hunters?"
"Some. From what I've gathered, they are just a bunch of kids getting their hands on those badges somehow. Now I just need to find where they are."
"You sure are efficient, Selina. That wouldn't be a problem to you. Ethan has also finished organizing those records for you to look at. You can read them at the office. We can also give you a map of the town as well. You can use it to figure out where those kids might be.
Their crimes aren't that severe. A couple hundred hours in community services should be fine. But if they keep using those badges…"
Selina nodded. "I know, Sheriff. They are the ones in danger. These Bronze Ankh Badges aren't normal badges. They had a little bit of NES inside them. We wouldn't want them to encounter any NCE."
"Exactly." Carter nodded. "Well, duty call. Phone me if you need my assistance."
Carter tipped his hat at Selina. "Good day, Miss Isels." He went back inside the house.
Selina and Mater got on the motorcycle and drove off.
"Do you think they will find anything in that house, Mr. Mater?" Selina said.
"They will surely be perplexed about those piles of ash in the basement."
The day was getting late so they didn't go to the office and instead returned to the motel to have some rest.
Mater called out Crow and let him hang on a power line above the motel to monitor the area. Aurora lay inside the room keeping watch while Selina and Mater went to sleep. He made sure everything was set up to avoid any ambush.
It was very unlikely they would be but he couldn't shake off his habit. The life of a warlock in his old world taught him to always be vigilant.
In the middle of the night, Crow was observing the area when he saw a group of guys cornering a young girl. Surprisingly, Crow recognized her.
It was Abigail Johnson, the girl that he interviewed early. Crow kept a close eye on her and kept watching.
The group of guys cornered Abigail in an alley way.
Crow couldn't help but sigh. "Really? Even in this small town."
He flew to the ground and turned back into his Abomination Form. The trench coat floated gently in the wind.
He approached the alleyway where they cornered the girl.
"Come on, Abigail. Show us some tits."
"Yeah! You've grown up now! You can do anything you'd like. Don't care about your old man!"
"Alright. Break it off." Crow shouted. He placed his hands in his pockets and stood in the entrance of the alley way. Street light shone down upon him, contrasting his dark appearance with the light white color. His fedora tipped slightly, giving him a vibe of an old school detective.
The men turned over to look at him. It was a group of punk-rock kids with spiky leathers and crazy hairstyles. They were definitely too drunk for their age.
"Who is this fucker?" A young man approached Crow. "Go away, man! This doesn't concern you."
"Mr. Cage?!" Abigail blurted out. She quickly went over to him and hid behind his back.
"You knew this guy?" A punk-rock kid pointed at Crow.
Abigail nodded her head. "He's with the Sheriff. Please just go home, guys. You are too drunk."
"This nosy asshole." A kid approached Crow and tried to swing at him.
Crow grabbed his fingers and bent it backwards. The kid immediately went to the ground, screaming in pain. The excruciating scream knocked them out of their drunkenness immediately. They all stepped back.
"Alright, kids. You need to go home now. Didn't your parents teach you better? Do you really want to ruin your life like this?" Crow shouted to the rock group.
They sweated slightly and realized what they're doing. The booze really messed with them. They bowed at Crow and quickly ran off.
Crow helped the kid on the ground stand up.
"You broke my fingers, man!"
"Better than letting you rot in jail. Never do this again, you understand?"
The kid nodded repeatedly.
"Now scram!"
The kid ran away. With tonight's event, maybe he would change and not get himself in the wrong crowds again. Crow noticed a badge on his waist that was really familiar.
"Wait a minute. What is that on your waist?"
