A man peeled himself off the body of the tree. A man made of wood and leaves.
When he exited the dark tree, the Chaos in the surrounding immediately faded off and focused inside the tree man.
Mater's eyes flashed red as he observed the tree wraith. "That bastard has even more Chaos than me!"
The black cat stroked his whiskers and rolled his eyes in deep thought.
He connected to Aurora and Bash telepathically and said, "Don't kill it. Leave it alive."
"As you wish, Master!" Aurora answered.
"Bash won't kill!" The Infernal Demon roared
The tree wraith tried to run away but he was no match for Bash's speed.
Bas wouldn't kill but he would for sure break every bone inside that wraith. If it even had some. The Brute Demon slammed onto the tree wraith and picked it up.
If Bash wanted to kill it, Bash would jump up and crush it on the way down like the way he did with the previous tree warrior. But for the tree wraith, it simply rammed it into another tree.
The wraith soul was shaken to the core as it slumped over and fell down to the ground.
"Let's check out that wraith," Mater meowed.
The group approached the tree wraith and surrounded it. The wraith was terrified. It was a horror itself but it was scary to the core.
These beings were much more terrified than it.
The tree wraith covered its face and crumbled into a fetus position.
"Why is it… I don't know. Look like a coward." Selina said.
"Cowards have their uses."
The black cat raised its paw. The Dark Grimoire stood up and pulled the tree wraith inside the 17th page. The tree wraith didn't even resist.
Its portrait appeared on the 17th page. A skinny man with skin of woods and hair of leaves. Its details showed up clearly as another language not of this world.
[Forest-Spirit Despair]
[Description]: In its past life, it was a good man. It fell victim to the horror of the Onoke Swamp and was forever trapped. Sometimes it dreams of the life it once had and the kind man it once was.
[Rank]: 1
[Level]: 3
[Spells]:
- Forest Vines: Can only be used within its domain. The wraith can summon tree vines that restrain its victims.
- Forest Guards: Can only be used within its domain. The wraith can summon tree warriors that can attack on its behalf.
- Forest Force: Can only be used within its domain. The Chaos Well of the wraith is enlarged depending on the size of its domain. It can see, hear, and sense anything within its domain.
[Passive Abilities]:
- Forest Heart: It can merge with an area of forest and become the master and controller of that area. While within its domain, the wraith has major resistance to all disabling effects.
"A level 3 wraith? Such a low level. But it's actually very powerful." The black cat meowed.
Compared to Mater and his servants, the wraith was weak. But given it a few more years, it would become a literal menace to the people of Ines Sota, maybe even stronger than the fish wraith in the Onoke Lake.
"A natural type being, huh… Unfortunately, enforcing Hellfire, Nether, or Death Ice onto it would conflict with its original power. However, I can access more types of Seal once I acquired my first lock. There is a Seal that is very suitable for it."
In the end, Mater decided to keep the tree wraith inside the book. He had no use for it yet. Even if he enslaved it, it would not be that useful without a domain.
"How are your Chaos Well, Aurora, Bash?" The black cat meowed.
"I still have more than half, Master." Aurora said.
"Bash is as good as new!" Bash tapped his chest.
Bas was literally a physical warrior. All of his Chaos was used on his passive abilities, which didn't even cost that much. He could go on for days.
"Alright. Let's keep on going."
The group climbed back up on Bash's back as they left the forest area. Crow turned back into a bird and went ahead to scout.
This swamp was slowly being cleaned from top to bottom by Mater. But there were still quite a lot of wandering wraiths around.
Mateo raised his legs and clicked his tongue in disdain. Water dripped from his high-heeled boots.
"No wonder no one wants to deal with this shit. This place is filthy."
Sheriff Carter was right behind him. The old man couldn't help but judge the guy.
'Why is a man wearing a high heel?' Carter thought to himself.
A wandering wraith approached Mateo. He jumped up in fear.
"What the hell?!" Mateo screamed.
"That's just a spirit of the dead, Mr. Mostovoi. It has probably gone hostile though." Carter said.
"I know! I wasn't scared! I was only startled." Mateo scoffed.
'I didn't say you were…' Carter covered his face in disappointment. Selina was so reliable. She almost made him forget about the shenanigans of the usual Bounty Hunters.
The fact was most of them were all crazy as hell. No one was normal.
Mateo raised his hand at the wandering wraith. Pulses and pulses of shockwaves released from his palm. It was different from Mater's Desperation Scream, instead of a destructive force of a soundwave, these shockwaves passed through the wraith softly.
Then its body crumbled to the ground.
"Filthy NCE. Now you know you shouldn't scare me!" Mateo stuck his tongue at the wraith like a child and kept going.
Sheriff Carter tipped his hat. 'Well, at least he is capable enough.'
The group entered the third area of the swamp. A final and last area before they reached the real Onoke Lake.
In front of them was a fake Onoke Lake. They knew it was fake because the moment they entered the area, the entire location changed. The high tropical trees disappeared. The muddy water drained away. And the night was replaced by a clear blue sky.
"What is it, this time?" Selina put a hand over her eyes to observe the blinding sun on top.
Aurora tapped her shoulder and pointed at the middle of the fake lake.
On the water surface was a young woman crying non-stop. Her tears flooded out like a waterfall and filled up the fake lake.
