Chapter 175: Ch 175: Clearing the Tower (3)

The next day when the news of the beastkins taking back a fortress reached the ears of the other beastkins and the demons, they all became excited. The beastkins became excited in happiness and their morale got raised. On the other hand, the demons got excited in rage and their morale also got raised as they wanted to take back the castle.

More than losing a fortress, what hurt the demons more was the death of 2 A rank commanders. They were a very essential part of the demon's army and their positions were irreplaceable. Seeing that the new general of the beastkin army was not a pushover, the two S rank leaders of the demons started to think of a plot to kill him too just like the previous general.

...

After leaving Gathor in charge of the recaptured fortress, Leonhart returned back to the camp where he was first summoned. The enemy army attacking this fortress had pulled out a majority of their soldiers to bolster their defence in other fortresses which lessened the pressure on this fort considerably.

Leonhart next needed to conquer the remaining five fortresses to her the perfect clear and that was not going to be easy. The army of the demons had captured those five fortresses for a long amount of time so their foundation there was very solid. Not only that, there were no other hidden passages that could allow his soldiers to get close to the fortresses without alerting them. So he needed to think about something else.

After thinking about it long and hard he decided to target a fort called the Labushen fortress. It was the fortress with the weakest defense among all the fortresses that the demons had managed to capture and that weak defence was also the reason why this fortress got captured in just 2 days.

This battle was not going to be as easy as the previous one but if he attacked this fortress with a high amount of soldiers, there was a good chance that he would be able to recapture the fortress in a single day. Now the beastkins needed to put the pressure on the demons and to not give them any time to recover. And capturing one more fortress from them would be the best way to do it.

So Leonhart took twelve thousand soldiers and two generals with him in order to capture the Labushen fortress and left the other soldiers to defend the current fortress. The good thing was that without capturing the current fortress where Leonhart was summoned it was impossible for the demons to attack the other three fortresses as they were located further inland.

...

The merch to the Labushen fortress was a quiet one. They tried to hurry as much as possible and also tried to keep the noise to a minimum. This allowed the demons to detect the arrival of the army very late as they used the forest surrounding the fortress to hide themselves as much as possible.

That mistake in detection allowed the beastkins to quickly attack the fortress before the demons could get ready to counter attack which allowed them an advantageous position for the upcoming siege battle.

But soon the demons were able to get properly prepared and the battle situation reached a deadlock for the time being. But the war became very advantageous to the beastkins for the demon's prior mistake. And the main reason why this fortress was considered to be very weak was because its defence against any kind of magical attack was very bad. Other than that due to the fortress' location which was in a valley surrounded by forest, the attacking side had the advantage of having the higher ground over most of the soldiers present inside the fortress and only the ones present at the top of the fortress could look down on the attacking side.

It was a very foolish location to create a fortress and Leonhart had no idea why anymore would create a fortress in such a bad and disadvantageous location. But for now it was good for him so he continued to attack the fortress with his magic casting army.

One of the five legions under Leonhart's command was specialised in magic. This unit was mostly filled with mages and sorcerers and this was also the main attacking force that Leonhart brought this time. And they were the perfect unit to destroy this fortress.

Yes, after thinking about it for some time, Leonhart decided to not reclaim this fortress. As after getting it back he had to assign his limited soldiers here and there was a very high chance that the demons would be able to get the fortress back once more using their great magical capabilities. So recapturing this fortress would be the only disadvantage in his opinion.

So, instead of reclaiming it back, Leonhart decided to first free the fortress from the demons and then to destroy it completely. It might sound like a bad idea, but to be honest, in the current times this fortress did not serve any important roles at all. So, losing it would not have much of a big impact on the beastkins.

His plan was very successful. Actually it was even more successful than he had expected. After Leonhart was done with capturing the fortress and was going to order the army to destroy it, at that time another group of demons consisting of about two thousands of them showed up in order to support the previous, now destroyed army that was managing this fortress.

Leonhart and his remaining ten thousand plus soldiers were able to easily get rid of those two thousand demons easily. And then after they were done with completely destroying this useless fortress, Leonhart hurried back to the Haccok fortress where he was actually summoned.

...

In the meantime when the demon's commander in charge of capturing the Haccok fortress got the news of the fortress having less soldiers he did not waste any time and increased the amount of soldiers attacking the fortress.

Leonhart had expected this to happen so the guard of the fortress was tighter than usual. But still the demons were attacking like crazy and the soldiers of the Haccok fortress were having a hard time.

This was why Leonhart wanted to return as soon as possible and also did not want to lessen the amount of soldiers by letting them manage a useless fortress. He also planned to do a pincer attack from the behind of the demons when they were busy attacking the fortress and that would allow him to kill a lot of demonic soldiers.

But this time his plan did not go according to his wishes and two of S rank generals ambushed him on his way back. As soon as the news of the Labushen fortress falls and Leonhart being a part of the attackers reached the S rank demons they instantly reacted and planned an ambush in him.

Leonhart was able to allow the soldiers to leave before he started to fight the two demons and told them to pincer attack the soldiers attacking the Haccok fortress.

The two demons who had attacked Leonhart were both level 335. One of them looked like a handsome human with horns on his head and bat wings on his back. He was from a race of demons called incubus.

And the other one was a muscular hunk with a scary and angry face with three horns on his head. Leonhart recognised him as a rare race of demons called Oni. They were known for their excellent physical strength so Leonhart had to take on both of them seriously.

The Oni was an expert brawler as expected and the incubus was also an experienced mage. Their teamwork was also not bad so even though Leonhart was several levels higher than them he was having a hard time killing them.

But the demons also understood very quickly that Leonhart was very much stronger than the last general and they together would not be able to kill him while fighting head on. That was why after fighting for some time they decided to run away.

Leonhart was unable to stop both of them from running away but as it was a good and rare opportunity to kill a demon leader, he used a secret technique to strengthen himself over him limit and attacked the Oni with all his strength who was close to him.

It was successful and Leonhart was able to kill the Oni but the incubus was able to run away from him. But he was still happy with his results. Killing one of the demonic leaders would allow his prestige to go above and beyond and the demon army would also become much weaker.

After that he finally returned to the fortress and the pincer attack was also partially successful. Which was not the best result but it was good enough. So he once again started to plan his next steps going forward.
