Chapter 277: Ch 277: Divine Calamity

Hearing those two words Dalia's face also became worried, but after some time, she once again regained her colours. But still she had some worries left in her and asked Eldriana -

"Eldriana sama, how much time do we have left and of what grade ?"

Hearing that Eldriana shook her head and said in a worried tone -

"It's going to happen within a week at most. As for the rank, this time it's going to be a high grade."

Now finally even Dalia's face turned pale and she asked in a concerned tone -

"How can that be ? High grade is way too extreme."

...

Goddess of Cheerful Nature, Alreuni was one of the high goddesses who liked to nurture Demigods using various means like giving them trials or letting someone to have very high potential.

The divine calamity was one such trial designed for the S rankers. It was actually hard for S rankers to find opponents of their level, so it was very hard for them to gain experience and practice their battle techniques. For a S ranker to grow they needed to take risks, life threatening risks. But there were not many things that could pose a threat for a S ranker.

So as a solution for this problem, Alreuni created a special system. That system was called "The Divine Calamity" system. She created several extremely powerful beings at the S rank who were stronger than a normal S rank powerhouse. Those beings were not from any type of race and only came into being when some S rankers needed to face a trial.

They were not like normal living beings. The only reason for their existence was to become an obstacle for selected S ranker. To give every S rank a chance to get the benefit, these calamities only targeted a selected few S rank powerhouses and all of them would get a divine revelation telling them that a calamity was coming for them.

If a S ranker who had not received the divine revelation tried to fight the calamity, then the calamity would immediately gain the power of a demigod and would kill that person that's why only the chosen S rankers took on the calamity.

Obviously as a kind goddess, she was unwilling to kill any innocents who were unrelated to this whole matter. But that was not the case for the houses they lived in. Whenever calamity targeted a S ranker, if that person did not take on the challenge then those calamities would destroy everything that they came across, be it cities, villages, forests or lakes, nothing would be spared. And all the blame of the destruction would fall on the head of the S rankers who did not face the monster and that person would receive the dislike of the nature itself which was the worst thing that could happen to an elf.

This phenomenon was inclusive to only the elves. No other races had to face these calamities. But were they happy about that. Nope, they were absolutely not. That was because of the benefit of defeating one of these calamities.

After defeating a calamity, the S rankers who participated in the fight against it would all receive various rewards depending on their contribution. But even the minimum reward was something that any other S rankers would be drooling for.

The power of the calamity depended on the people who were related to the calamity. But it always gave a chance to the people who were facing the calamity to defeat it. Another thing that affected the power of the calamity was the grade of the calamity. There were a total of four grades Low, Mid, High and Insane. A low grade calamity could be handled quite easily if the S rankers involved in it did their best. But to clean a mid grade calamity they needed to try harder and needed to make food plans.

But a high grade calamity was different. When facing a high grade calamity, all the people involved in it needed to risk their life in order to get a chance of victory. And Insane grade was just as its name explained, insane. Insanely hard. To clear an insane grade calamity, the S rankers needed to transcend their limits to even stay alive.

Obviously the grade of the calamities were not decided in random, as that would be too unfair. Luck was something that gods controlled, so it would not affect the randomisation, but still allowing S rankers to die just because of some bad luck was way too foolish for Alreuni.

So she created a system to judge what grade would be most suited for the participants and that system decided the grade of the calamity. It would never assign a grade that was unresolvable for the participants. So all in all this was quite a fair trial all things considered.

But one thing that was still a bit dangerous was the fact that the participants might have a huge gap in power between them. In that case, it would be inevitable that it would become harder for the weaker S ranks. Normally all the S ranker living close to each other would get the opportunity to fight and if a weak S ranker was living close to a very strong one then that would spell trouble for the weaker one. The reason Eldriana was so scared after getting the divine revolution was because she was not sure if Elena was S rank or higher. If she was S rank, then even her life would be in danger as a calamity targeting someone as strong as Elena would be extremely scary, especially a high grade one.

...

Dalia knew that Elena was actually a demigod so she was not worried about this possibility. But a high grade one was still quite troublesome, so she became scared after knowing it. The participating S rankers would also get the information about when the calamity would appear through divine revelation and Eldriana's calamity would appear within a week. Before that she needed to prepare and make plans with the other elves who would be participating alongside her.

Elena told her that she was not at the S rank but above it, which made Eldriana to heave a sigh of relief. She was truly scared of the calamity that Elena might have trouble against. As that was not the case, she was a little less worried.

She had already faced a calamity before, but it was only a low grade one. She alone would not be able to defeat it without risking her life but with other partners also performing quite well, it was not too dangerous. But that was only a low rank calamity and it was already almost stronger than her. So she had no idea how insane a high rank calamity would be. But one thing was sure, it would not be something that she could take lightly.

After just an hour she got a massage through a magic tool that was given to her by the "Blooming Purgatory" Archpriestess. She invited her for a meeting with the S rankers who would be participating in the fight with this calamity. She was a person with a very large amount of connection, so even if she was not the one participating in the calamity, she would still help the participants to gather together.

After agreeing to her invitation, Eldriana looked at Elena with a resolute face and asked her -

"Lady Elena, I want to ask you for a favour. Will you please hear me out ?"
