As poor Mekina was sitting on a bench and was getting more and more depressed by thinking about her current situation, suddenly a pleasant voice called out to her. Looking up she saw two very beautiful ladies looking at her with a bit of worry on their faces. One of the ladies was a dark elf who had black hair tied in a ponytail and she was wearing a dress that was quite revealing in many parts. But with her very well built warrior like physique it actually suited her very well. She also had a small monster bird resting on her shoulder.

Then the other lady standing beside eclipsed even her in beauty. She was a fair elf with an extremely beautiful face and flowing golden hair. She was so beautiful that just looking at her was enough to make Mekina a bit shy even though she was a straight lady.

Seeing the girl looking at her with a dazed look on her face, Elena gave her a reassuring smile and slowly extended her hand to pat her head. Normally it would be very weird for someone to suddenly pat her head even though she was an adult lady but with Elena doing it she did not feel any discomfort and even felt a bit better even in this dire situation.

Then Elena told her to explain her situation to her. For some reason Mekina found Elena to be very comforting and even though she had just met her for the first time in her life, she started to tell her about the situation she was in.

Mekina was not alone. She had a family that was living in the first level of this city. She had her ill father and mother to take care of and alongside them she also had five younger siblings. Other than her none of the other family members were earning money, so losing this job was a very bad situation for her.

Her father had a job just a few months ago. But as his health was getting worse day by day, Mekina almost forced him to retire from his work and to take a break in order to recover his health. But unfortunately as now she had lost her job, she had no idea what she should do to run the family. She did have some savings but they were definitely not enough to last her a long time.

Hearing her lamenting about it, Tomoe asked her why she was trying for a different job in a different organisation. What she had heard about her resume, Mekina should not have any troubles in getting a job in a different place.

Hearing this question she became even more sad and said in a more depressed tone that the magic workshop had given her a very bad rating while firing her. And according to the law of the city, she had to tell her next organisation about this rating of her. And there was almost no company who would be able to still take her in after learning about her abysmal ratings.

This was truly a serious problem so after thinking about it for some time Elena proposed to her a solution. It was a single solution which was to participate in the upcoming magic competition to show her worth as a young mage to the higher ups of the city. If she was able to do that then no one would believe the bad ratings over what they had seen with their own eyes.

This sounded like a good solution to Tomoe too but Mekina was not so confident about it. Since her luck had gone in disarray, she had lost the vast majority of her confidence in her magic. She had even started to believe that all her good results before were just flukes and her own worth could not be judged based on these.

To be honest, both Elena and Tomoe had not seen her magic in action. So without knowing about it, they were unable to have any opinion on it. So Elena asked her to demonstrate her magic for them to judge. Then she introduced herself and Tomoe as S rank powerhouses which almost make Mekina to faint from surprise.

Then Elena booked a private training ground of the magic guilt for her to demonstrate her magic. Booking it was not a very costly endeavour and many mages did regularly book it to test their magic out. It was a famous practice in this city.

There were puppets made of wood and metal to act as training targets. Depending on the amount of damage inflicted on the puppets, it was possible to judge how much strong a particular spell was. The wooden puppet was easily destroyable by most mages but the metal puppet was not and only powerful mages were capable of destroying it.

But the puppets were not the only equipment present here. Mages did not only consider the strength of their skill when analysing their own skills. So there were gadgets for measuring mana control, magic sensitivity, elemental mastery and more. It was truly a very good training ground with almost all the necessary equipment present.

Elena wanted to check the power of her magic at the end so she asked Mekina to start her demonstration by measuring her magic sensitivity. Magic sensitivity was very important for mages as not only it allowed them to learn and master spells quickly, it also allowed them to read their opponents to judge what type of spell they were going to use next.

The gadget used to measure the magic sensitivity was like a cylindrical chamber. Here she would feel the sensation of magic and she needed to judge what type of magic it was. Her answers would be recorded and based on how many times she was currently able to judge it, she would be scored.

There were a total of one hundred types of magic that she was given to judge. Elena had already asked for a survey result from the magic guild that recorded the average performance of the mages from this city. Elena was going to use this to judge Mekina's performance.

Mekina was able to score a good 87 points in the magic sensitivity test while the average was only 53. So in this regard her performance was really amazing. Elena told that to Mekina and used that to motivate her and to give her back her confidence.

Then she took on the other tests too. Her score for the mana control was 1129 and her score in elemental mastery was 6.98. As for how they compared to other mages, the average for mana control was only 460 and the average for elemental mastery was 4.6. Elves were already good at controlling their element, so a good average for elemental mastery was to be expected. But as they had a lot of mana, they were not very good at mana control. So Mekina was really good at this even though she also has a very high amount of mana.

This was all proof that she was definitely a talented mage who had a bright future ahead. So Elena started to plan how she should polish this gem a little bit before the magic tournament.

Now that Elena had taken a notice of hers, Mekina's life was definitely going to change mostly in a good direction.
