Those three days the whole city was boiling with excitement. Normally Elves were a very calm race and did not get excited easily. But this time it was different. All the S rank mages were going to participate in this tournament so there was no way that they would not be excited.
As for one such S rank powerhouse, she was currently sitting in Elena's inn room while reading a book. She was not the only person who had suddenly come here and was doing whatever she wanted but Ganyu was with her. After the end of the young mage's magic competition, Ganyu was taken in by Ethor herself as her little apprentice. She was currently training under Ethor and that was also the reason why she followed her teacher here.
After getting to know Elena, Ethor was continuously trying to get close to her. Having the friendship of a S rank powerhouse could only be a good thing. But she was actually feeling a little bit frustrated at this moment. That was not because Elena was rejecting her advances and was giving her a hard time but because Elena was just way too easy to make friends with. Ethor had thought about various plans and benefits that she could use to attract Elena's attention but she was left disappointed when Elena easily accepted her proposal to become friends.
It was obviously a good thing that she was able to gain the friendship of a S ranker but in some part of her heart, Ethor felt like Elena was not looking at her like an equal friend but like an inferior little sister she wanted to dote on.
Among all the relationships that Ethor had before, she was always in the mature position. So it felt a bit weird to her when she was looked at like a little sister and she was trying to somehow change that. So what she first did was to try understanding Elena and what kind of person she was. And for this matter Ethor contacted Tomoe as she was definitely the best person who would know more about Elena as she was her travelling partner.
When Ethor learnt that Tomoe had known Elena only for a few months, she was dumbfounded. Looking at Tomoe and Elena nobody would be able to guess that they were not close travelling partners for many years. Elves needed quite a lot of time to develop any kind of friendship and that was more true for the dark elves. Tomoe also looked like the type of person who was not interested in knowing many people and making friends. So it was even more unbelievable for Ethor as Elena had managed to get so close with this stern lady in such a short amount of time.
She still asked many questions to Tomoe but was not able to learn much. She just managed to find out that Elena was incredibly powerful and Tomoe had no idea about the depth of her straight.
...
So Ethor made a decision and she decided to challenge Elena to a duel. This would serve both as a practice for her for the upcoming tournament and to demonstrate to Elena her powers. She was also able to learn from Tomoe that if she requested Elena for a duel from the bottom of her heart, then she would definitely agree to it. So there was no worry about Elena accepting her duel invitation.
Obviously it was impossible to have a fight between two S rankers inside the city. The arena was able to handle them with a lot of preparation but for the current moment they were unable to use that place. So they decided to go out of the city and to find a secluded place to have their fight.
Tomoe went with them but Mekina and Ganyu were told to wait in the inn as their going to watch this battle would be very dangerous. They were obviously a bit disappointed with this as they really wanted to have a chance of watching two powerful S rankers fighting. It was definitely going to be a worthwhile experience. But then Elena told them that Tomoe would record the scene of the battle with a magic tool and that they would be able to witness it if though it would not be a first hand experience, they became happy again. Obviously Elena had already taken Ethor's permission for recording her and her fighting style before telling the girls about it.
...
After about an hour, all three of them returned. They were completely unharmed and it did not look like they had any fights at all. Elena and Tomoe also had a very normal expression and there was no sign of excitement or exhaustion on their faces. But the situation for Ethor was a bit different. She not only looked quite a bit exhausted but there was also a look of extreme surprise on her face that was unable to get rid of even when trying her best.
From this the girls were able to judge who the winner of the duel was. They had actually already expected it as Elena always gave them a mysterious feeling as if she would be able to accomplish anything she wanted. But even then they were a bit surprised to see how relaxed Elena was. They had not expected the gap between them to be so large as both of them were S rankers.
When they asked to see the recording of the fight, Tomoe told them that they would only be able to watch the first half of the fight. She would not be able to show them the second half as Ethor had used a trump card of hers at that time that she did not want anyone to know. It was a very understandable reason so the girls decided to satisfy themselves with just the first half of the fight.
...
Just as they had expected, it was a one sided battle. Actually Elena did not attack Ethor at all and just calmly blocked all her spells while matching her magic output to be on the same level as Ethor. It did not matter how much Ethor made her magic stronger or weaker, Elena was always able to match her perfectly. It was just a display of Elena's superiority in the field of magic.
Both Ganyu and Mekina started to shiver when they remembered that Elena had told them that she was more of a sword master than a mage. It was truly unbelievable to see how amazing Elena's magic was. And if her swordsmanship was even better then it was really scary to think about. She was definitely not a normal S ranker and was probably a high or top class S ranker. There was even a chance that might even be a Demigod.
As soon as this thought came to their mind they stopped thinking about it as Demigods were way too important and casually thinking about them could be very problematic. But still they became very excited in their hearts when they thought about how they were acquainted with such a powerful person.
