Very soon among all the excitement, the day of the main tournament came. The whole city was filled with uncontrollable excitement. There were several betting corners ready to start their business and all the taverns were also filled to the brim with customers. The demand for the tickets were off the charts so many people did not get a chance to observe the magic tournament from the stands, for those fans, the magic guild had made a system by which they would be able to watch a live broadcast inside most of the renowned taverns.

Ethor truly had an ingenious business mind. The magic items she was going to sell them were not a magic item of very high quality and their longevity was very low. Basically they would only properly work for a few months or so. Even the lowest level workers of the guild were capable of making them so it was not very expensive to create.

But Ethor was selling this magic item as a limited time item with a decently high price margin. As for the taverns, they were actually very happy to buy them as having them would be guaranteed to gather a large amount of customers. So they were actually happy to pay extra money to get their hands on this magic item. Just by this venture, Ethor was able to bring a considerable sum to her organisation.

The arena was renovated quite a bit after the young mage's magic competition ended. Now there were a few thousand extra seats and there were also extra VIP rooms. Elena was able to get her hands on one such VIP room thanks to Ethor. It was actually a room given to her, the guild leader of the magic guild but she allowed Elena to use it as she wanted.

After getting a beating from Elena she had accepted that Elena was superior to her and at the same time she had started to act like a younger sister to Elena. At the same time she was also trying very hard to get on Elena's good book as Ethor understood that Elena's powers were truly astonishing so having a good relationship with her was very important.

Normally other people would not like this kind of behaviour from someone as it looked like Ethor was only associating with Elena because of all the gains she could have. But Elena was fine with it as it was not her first time meeting with someone like Ethor who had this kind of habit. Elena knew that Ethor was genuine in her wish to become close with Elena and that was enough for her.

Very soon it was time for the tournament to start and what marked the beginning of the tournament was a big festival and parade. Then finally a grand magic demonstration to end the pre tournament show. They were showing everyone why this tournament had such fame throughout the whole continent.

After that finally the main tournament started. The rules for this tournament were a lot different than the rules for the young mage's magic competition. Here all the A rank and higher grade mages would be able to get a pass for the first two rounds. So only B and C rankers would be fighting there to get a chance to compete with the higher grade mages in the third round.

As for the S rank mages, they had even bigger privileges. Normally this privilege would not be used as S rankers very rarely participated in this tournament but in this year three such powerhouses were participating and they needed to start preparing for the fifth round.

No one thought that this rule was unfair as truly for a S ranker, the first few rounds were as easy as eating and drinking. Even most of the A rankers would be able to easily pass those rounds.

The first round was not very interesting and was also hard to broadcast as there were just a lot of mages participating in this. So the magic association put up a target and only the mages who would be able to destroy that would be able to clear this round. There were a few exceptions. Mages who did not practice attack magic at all were given different set of criteria. But asking for this privilege was a very troublesome matter and one needed to gather many permissions from various different places. So most of the mages avoided this even if their attack magic was not their strongest point.

B rank mages would be able to generally pass this round without much trouble but C rankers needed to work a bit harder. As for D rankers, the minimum qualification to enter the tournament was C rank so they were not participating.

There were hundreds and thousands of D rank mages. There was no way they could be allowed to participate in the tournament. For any decently talented mage, it was not very hard to reach the C rank but the amount of people who had that kind of talent were still rare, so the amount of C rank mages dropped quite a bit.

That number dropped even more for B rank ones as only a very talented and hard working mage would be able to reach the B rank. If one did not have something special, it would be almost impossible for them to reach the B ranks.

Even in the most boring part of the tournament, there were quite a few hype moments. Some of the B rank mages put on a very grand performance while casting magic and that impressed everyone. When some of the C rank mages were able to pull through after a lot of tries even the audience cheered for them. All in all, it was a very enjoyable show.

But that was not the case for everyone, especially for the mages who failed to clear this round. And there were a lot of these people. Obviously they were very sad about it some of them even tried to get violent in their moment of frustration. Obviously it was a bad idea and all those troublemakers were given a beating by the personnel from the magic guild who were stationed there for security purposes.

But even with all those disturbances, the first round safely came to an end with a total of 5,783 people qualifying for the second round. This was still a huge number but almost 90 percent of them would most probably not be able to clear the next round. But that was how life worked. Even passing the first round was a big deal and for most of the people, it would be an achievement that they would be able to proudly boost about.

With that the second round was about to start which was one of the most interesting rounds even with quite a few slightly weaker mages participating in it.

Elena was also looking forward to it.
