Chapter 397: Ch 397: Second Round

For the second round a mage needed to use a magic which would be able to impress the audience. The complexity or the quality of the spell did not matter. What they needed was a spell that looked most impressive, that's all. This was basically a magic demonstration that happened in the previous young mage's magic competition but there was a twist.

This time around there would be no judges to rate their magic. It would be the audience themselves who would be the judges. All the audiences who had bought the tickets for the day were given a magic item. Using this item, one would be able to rate the performance of a mage and all that given score would be calculated and an average result would be given. That would be the final score of a competitor.

The mages with high ranks in the mage's guild had a higher rating rights. So they were able to give more scores. But the amount of score they were able to give was never enough to disregard the opinion of the masses. This scoring system was made perfect after using and refining it year after year for over a few centuries. So the chance of any fraud happening was close to none.

This was the reason why the second round was so famous. But obviously there was not enough time to allow all the qualified mages to give their performances one by one. So the whole arena was divided into 20 sections where 20 mages would be able to give their performances at the same time. That was how they were able to finish the whole send round in one and half days.

But everyone was fine with this as the audiences were able to choose which mages they wanted to see perform and were also able to score for a mage who was not on their side of the arena if they watched their spell by using the recording device. As for VIPs, they were allowed to take their time to vote and were able to leisurely watch the other performances before scoring the mages in their free time. They just needed to give the score before the time of official result declaration.

...

With that soon the second round started. All the participants had worked very hard to perform a spell that was not too simple but also looked impressive in execution. If the spell was too simple, that participant would not be able to get a good score from the high ranking mages. But on the other hand, if the spell did not look very impressive, the audiences would not give a high score even if that spell was a very well thought out and complex spell. So a mage needed to have a good balance in their spells if they wanted to get a high overall score.

So all the mages put on quite a bit of thinking before performing their spells and Elena had to say that she was impressed. They all did relatively well and their spells also had the balance of looking good for both the general audience and high ranking mages.

Among them there were two individuals who had managed to impress Elena. So the main reason why the C rankers got eliminated in this round even when the level of a mage was not very important for performing in this round was because the general audience naturally gave them low scores by judging them with their ranks. So subconsciously most of them would think that a B ranker's spell would be better even if that was not the case.

But there was a C ranker who had managed to change that mindset. He was a young genius who suddenly stopped growing after reaching the C ranks at a very early age. But he never gave up and continued trying hard and mastering whatever spell he was already able to use.

He was very famous in the city among the general population as he was very helpful and kind. So even with him being a C rank, the general audience would definitely not give him a bad score. As for the spell he used, it was truly an ingenious work. It was nowhere near strong enough to be a B rank spell but for a C rank mage, this spell was absolutely perfect in execution, design and all the other aspects. Even some of the A rank mages would not be able to cast such a perfect lower level spell.

With this there was no way high ranking mages would give him a low score and he was definitely going to get a high score from the audience too. All in all his advancement to the next stage as a legendary C ranker was all but confirmed.

...

Another person who was able to impress Elena was a B rank mage whose magic ability was almost on par or even slightly better than even an A ranker. She was truly a genius and Elena was told that this lady had managed to make a record of winning the young mage's magic competition three times in a row. Currently she was working under the S rank grand mage, Selionora who was also the current city lord.

Her abilities were truly impressive. Elena was sure that this girl would be able to reach the rank of S in the future and becoming a Demigod was also a big possibility. She just needed to not lose hope and her future would definitely be bright. These two were the only ones who caught Elena's eyes. As for others even though they were quite good, there was just a little something missing in them to catch Elena's eyes.

With that the first day of the second round came to an end. About 30 percent of the candidates were able to give their performance on this day and the rest would be giving their's on the next day. Elena was looking forward to finding out more impressive people like the two she was able to find today.

...

But after the end of the second day, Elena was a little bit disappointed. That was obviously because she was unable to find anyone who was able to impress her like the two people who were able to do on the first day. On average, the overall quality of the participants were about the same for both of the days but on the second day, there was no one who was able to stand out.

Even though Elena was a little bit disappointed, she was not unhappy. She still quite enjoyed the second day where more people performed and some of them really had quite a lot of wild ideas. All in all, it was quite fun to watch the show.

After the end of all the performances of the second round, there were two hours gaps before the results were declared. As for how many people would be able to go to the next round, it all depended on how many high rankers were planning to participate. According to some speculation, about 500 of them might be selected for the next round.

The results came out next and it turned out that 480 mages were selected for the third round with the A rankers. That was how the second round and the second day of the tournament came to an end.
