The battle lasted for a long time but the winners were finally decided. Even though Alberto and his two partners were good and powerful mages, they still fell a step short when they faced off against the trio of Ethor, Theorem and Hetharna. They were truly the top rankings mages.
After repelling this sudden surprise attack, all three of them returned back to the city. As soon as they came back, their subordinates told them that a S ranker named Elena was waiting for them in a guest room. Ethor obviously agreed to meet her immediately and from that Theorem and Hetharna also guessed that this person was probably the one who was giving off that intimidating pressure. So they also decided not to make her wait and to meet her immediately.
...
After entering the room they saw that Mekina, Tomoe, Ganyu, Archenite and Benshui were already there and were busy discussing something with a lot of excitement. As for Elena, she was sitting on a single sofa and was reading a book.
That was a very normal scene but all the S rankers were astonished by that. The reason for that was because the book that Elena was currently reading was the very same book that all the S rankers were fighting hard for. Elena saw them and gave them a sweet smile. Then she invited everyone to sit on the sofas opposite to hers.
The S rank mages did not oppose her invitation and sat down. Then Elena made the book to vanish from her hand and said -
"This is a book from an ancient era and what is written here is mostly related to various hypotheses that the researcher mages of that era had come up with. The practical value of this book is not very high but for anyone who likes magic, this would definitely be a very interesting book."
Seeing the look of interest and regret on everyone's face, Elena suddenly laughed out loud. Then she pointed at the other girls who were discussing about something with excited looks on their faces and started speaking again -
"Do you know what they are discussing right now ? There was a hypothesis in this book that told about the possibility of illusion magic being a part of the elemental family and not a type of special magic. Some of them agreed with this and others disagreed. Currently they are having a debate about that."
This statement made everyone to be extra surprise. They had investigated the book thoroughly and judged that it was covered with a very powerful spell that allowed the book to be read by only a single person. Not only that but there were restrictions that made sure that the person who was reading the book would not be able to give the information written in the book to others.
This magic was extremely powerful and none of them had managed to find a solution to this even after trying their best. That was the reason why they were so surprised when Elena was able to tell them about the content of the book and how the ladies were still discussing it. Hetharna was unable to hold her curiosity back anymore and asked a question.
"Umm, miss Elena, when we checked that book there was a powerful restriction present on it. Please forgive me for asking but I will be very glad if you can enlighten us about how you managed to bypass the restriction."
After seeing Hetharna's overly polite attitude and listening to her question, Elena gave her a reassuring smile and answered her -
"You all do not need to be so tense. Just look at Ethor and how relaxed she is. As for the restriction present in the book, there were actually three of them. One was a self destruction restriction when someone else opened the book other than the registered owner of the book."
Seeing this much Elena started to describe the restriction on details. Then she stopped and looked at everyone's faces. After seeing that they had managed to understand this she continued.
"As for the second restriction, it was a contract type of restriction that stopped even the owner to tell the information written on the book to others. This was mostly done to maintain the privacy of the mages whose hypotheses were written there. This is quite a complicated magic, so listen to my description with attention."
After that Elena again told them about that restriction magic. The person who was responsible for these spells was actually still a S ranker but he was very close to reaching the demigodhood. So these spells were a great reference points for great mages like them. Then finally Elena told them about the last magic restriction.
"This is the most complicated restriction present in the book and all of you were not able to find it. But that is very normal as this restriction was hidden in the book. For anyone below the rank of Demigod, it would be extremely hard to find this restriction."
Hearing that all three of them gasped. Elena's telling this to them was equivalent to admitting that she was a Demigod which was a very big deal. This was not a surprise to Ethor as she had expected that but to Hetharna and Theorem, this statement was a bolt from the blue.
"This was actually a type of safety mechanism that left an invisible mark in anyone who read this book. Even if someone very good with magic was able to bypass the other two restrictions, the caster of the magic would still be able to find that person because of this third restriction. I would like to explain this magic to all of you but actually it would not be a very good idea. This is a very high level magic and currently you all should not come in contact with it. I will leave a note behind explaining this but all of you are only allowed to read that note after reaching the peak of the S ranks."
With that Elena was done with the explanation and gave the other S ranker books that had everything written in that magic book copied. Then those S rankers became engrossed in reading all that book.
Seeing that Elena smiled and went out of the room. Tomoe also followed her and did the same. Then she came beside Elena and said in a happy tone.
"It's good to see that everyone was happy after the incident."
Hearing her Elena smiled and patted her head. Then Elena asked about what she had managed to learn in this journey. Tomoe smiled a bit of embarrassment and started to tell Elena about all the things that she had managed to learn in this journey that she would not have been able to if she stayed in the village.
Elena was happy to see her growth and told her that they would be leaving this city very soon. They had already visited almost all the interesting places of this city and now it was time to see new sights. Their next destination would be another port city and then Elena and Tomoe would part ways.
Just thinking about that made Tomoe sad.
