Chapter 428: Ch 428: Ancient City Utreyana

After the ships landed in the port of Utreyana, many people working there looked at it. That was because of the new flag that the sailors had hanged just before entering the port. This Flag had an emblem where two snake-like beings but with Wolf's head were coiling around each other and there was a spear in their middle. This was the family crest of the Utreyana family who ruled over this city.

Having a flag with this symbol on a ship meant that a family member of the ruling family was present in the ship and the Vampires present here needed to greet that person with utmost respect according to the custom of the vampire society.

Alisia was the first one to get out of the ship while Elena, Tomoe and Turin were also following just behind her. Seeing her all the present in the port had a realisation. They had heard that the 7th heir of the family had gone to a different continent for a mission and to gain some much experience and it looked like she was finally back. Then the vampires present in the port greeted her with welcome backs and thanks for your hard work.

From this reaction it looked like Alisia was quite well known in the city and the people also had a good impression of her. From what Elena had seen of Alisia, she was a good and hardworking girl so it made sense that her reputation among her people would also be good.

Elena and Tomoe also attracted a lot of attention as elves were quite rare in the Vladimarok continent. Because of a historic incident quite a few demons had started to live here permanently but any other race was a rare sight here. That was the reason why Elena and Tomoe attracted so much attention. Turin was only given attention by little children and some ladies for his cute looks but nothing more than that as everyone thought of him as a regular sub-dragon species. Else he would probably have gotten the most attention.

After Alisia came down from the ship, three men dressed in butler-like clothing appeared before her. Alisia introduced them as her personal servants. She also told Elena, Tomoe or Turin that if they had any questions about the city or the culture, they could ask that question to the aged butler standing in the middle named Vasak. He was an ancient vampire who had lived for many millennia and was very knowledgeable about everything related to this city.

The Butler's already knew about Elena and Tomoe so there was no introduction needed. Alisia herself did not know about Turin's true identity so that was also fine. So everyone followed the Butlers to a carriage and boarded it. That carriage would take them to the estate where the Utreyana family lived.

While sitting in the carriage, Elena started to ask Vasak many questions mostly about the history of this city and the vampire family ruling it. She did not ask anything about the giant temple as Alisia had promised to tell about it at a later date and Elena wanted to wait for that.

Vasak was answering everything with a very detailed knowledge and it looked like he himself was also enjoying talking about so many past things that even he was almost about to forget.

...

The Utreyana family had a very ancient history. They were given this land by one of the vampire queens and were given the responsibility to create a large city here. The Utreyana family followed the order of the queen and did their best to create a city worthy of her order.

But they soon faced many obstacles in their way. The vampire society of that time was not as peaceful as the current one and the head vampire of the Utreyana family had many enemies. He had a formidable man who was reputed to be a very intelligent person but her personal strength was not very high. Obviously he was not weak enough to be defeated by any run of the mill vampire but for the position of a high ranking noble as a vampire noble, he was too weak. This also created many troubles for him in the noble society.

The queen valued his intelligence quite a bit and that was the reason why he was given this high level title and a huge responsibility. Many other nobles were jealous but they still did not mind it that much as the duty of creating a good city in that area right beside the sea was very troublesome and none of the other vampire nobles were willing to take that role.

But after he was done making the city, the queen rewarded him with a special privilege that allowed him to build the temple of the vampire goddess in his city. This might sound like just extra work to others but for any vampire this opportunity was more valuable than their lives. The goddess who created them was their mother and getting a chance to worship their mother on one's land was priceless.

This made many families who were still neutral about the Utreyana family to turn against them. Jealousy was obviously the main reason but there were also other reasons at play.

This little conflict between a few families became bigger and bigger with time. Many other grudges and elements were also mixed in this and it spiralled out of control. Just like that a large war started between all the involved families.

The result of that fight was terrible and it only stopped when their vampire queens intervened at the same time. They brought an end to this conflict but massive harm had already been done to the families involved in it. The head of the Utreyana family was also badly hurt and his lifespan had hit the bottom.

Many people involved in that incident were either rewarded or punished depending on the judgement of the Vampire queen. The head of the Utreyana family was out to a long slumber in a special coffin that could preserve his life. After a few years of this conflict, the goddess herself started to maintain the continent and she ordered that the vampire race would not have any major internal conflict among the families. That was how even with some bad blood between some of the families, the vampires had managed to maintain a perfect peace for quite a few millennia.

This was the history of the city and the vampire society. This city had also performed many meritorious deeds defending against some of the enemies that the vampires still had in this continent. Even though the whole continent had millions of cities, the Utreyana city was one of the most famous and reputable among them. This was something that all the residents were PRIDEFUL about.

Just as Elena was having a lot of fun learning all this, the carriage suddenly stopped.
