Elena was curious about the reason why the city lord wanted to meet her. So even though it was a bit abrupt, she decided to follow the young man. He took Elena to the innermost part of the city where the mansion of the city lord was. The security in this part looked very tight which made sense as in this area, only the most distinguished demons lived.

But Elena and the young man escorting her had no problems going in. He just showed the guards a medallion and was permitted to enter the area without any hustle. So following behind him, Elena also had no troubles. It did not took them long to reach the mansion where the demonic lord of the city was.

The guards of the mansion were already familiar with the young man who had introduced himself as Jecob. From the respectful looks on the guards' faces, she was sure that this man was not just a mere servant of the family and had a decently high status.

Normally in demon society, only the strong had the right to be respected. No matter how strong someone's lineage was, if the person himself was not strong, then that person would not be respected by fellow demons. The young man who was escorting her was not actually very strong. He was definitely not weak as his strength was almost reaching the C rank, but in demon society that was nothing. Many of the guards who were acting respectful toward him actually had higher level than him.

So Elena guessed that this man most probably had an impressive talent in a field that was special. Only then even with limited strength, someone would be respected. Alchemists were a good example of this.

Even though Elena was a bit curious about this matter, she was not curious enough to investigate it or ask the man himself about it. So she did not think too much about it and followed the man into a reception room. Many maids were already inside the reception who immediately served tea and deserts for Elena.

After leisurely waiting in the room for a few minutes with good tea and tasty snacks, the door of the room opened and a man entered the room. Three more people were following behind him and one of them was Jecob who had escorted Elena here.

From this it was clear that the man who first entered the room was the lord of the city. He was a man of a large structure and looked quite old. He had a face full of beard and other than that there were quite a few battle scars on his face. He definitely was an experienced warrior who had been through many battles.

His two eyes were of two different colours. One was pitch black and the other one was deep scarlet. His hair was also reddish brown in colour. There was a pair of faded black horns on his head but the left one was slightly broken at the tip.

From what Elena could judge in one look, this man was a strong S rank powerhouse in his prime. But even with their longer lifespan, demons were not able to maintain their strength throughout their whole life like the vampires. So as he was getting old, his strength was also going down. He was still a S rank powerhouse but nowhere near as strong as he once was at his peak.

He sat down on the sofa opposite to Elena and introduced himself. His name was Graf Tennit and he was 16th lord of the city of Imenhawk. The city was given to only the strong and for the last three generations, the Tennit family had been ruling over it.

As long as Graf was on the chair, everything was fine. As a famous S rank warrior who had many legends written about him, no one was brave enough to challenge him for the seat. But as he started to grow older, the worry about the future consumed him. He had gotten this seat from his father. Obviously he needed to work extra hard for it but still his father was his inspiration.

But Graf did not have a particularly excellent heir to inherit this city. He did have many offsprings but none amongst them stood out. Just a few months ago, an old injury of his suddenly acted up. Soon the doctors and healer were able to get it under control but this incident made Graf to believe that there was a high chance that he might have to leave the world without choosing a proper inheritor for the city. That injury was also the reason why he did not participated in the hunt for the Dhanoses.

He was obviously disappointed about missing out on this. But after getting the report about the whole incident, the identity of Elena intrigued him. According to one of his close friends who was a part of this operation, Elena was not only extremely powerful but at the same time she was also very intelligent and observative. After knowing that he suddenly got the idea of enlisting Elena's help in finding a proper successor to his title.

Most the S rankers of the city including himself were muscle headed fools and he was aware of it. So they would not be able to choose a good candidate amongst people whose abilities were more or less the same. Strength was an important part but from his own experience Graf was aware that having a good head on the shoulder was also important.

So as all his offsprings were more or less similar in terms of strength, he wanted Elena's help to find out who had a good enough head to manage the city like a proper lord.

Elena was a bit interested at first but then she lost interest. She then said to Graf -

"Graf, for demons, strength is everything. Even if with my help you can find the best candidate for managing the city, without enough strength he would not be able to stay in power for long. This is not the human or elf society. Strength is the only thing that matters here.

So why are you telling me to find an inheritor amongst your bloodline if none of them had the potential to reach the S rank ? Even if your bloodline could not continue to rule this city, someone else more worthy will take up the mantle. Just like your grandfather once did."

Hearing what Elena had to say, at first his face clouded over but then he sighed. Then in a defeated voice he said -

"I know that. But the thought of ending our nobility with me as the last is scary. I have a way to make one person to reach the S rank even if they did not have the potential for it. So I request miss to please consider my proposal. Having someone truly good in managing the city as the lord would be good for it in the future."

Actually as Elena was human, Graf had thought that his thinking would be more similar to her own. He had no idea that this lady would have such a good understanding of the nature of a demon. It looked like he had underestimated how intelligent she actually was. So without beating around the bush anymore, he told her his true thoughts and sincerely asked for her help.

Elena was still not very interested in this matter but still after seeing that Graf was being so honest, she decided to not completely reject him. So she told him that she was willing to at least take a look at the candidates Graf had in mind.

So would anyone be able to impress Elena with their capabilities ?
