"What is this place?" Dorothy was astonished.
Before they even entered, the two of them saw the flickering lights flowing throughout the entire space. They resembled fireflies, yet they danced in the air at a much faster speed, their trajectories seeming to follow some mysterious pattern.
Li Ang estimated the distance they had just walked; this vast space was now within the interior of Frost Heaven Island's peak.
As they walked further, they could see that the floors and the distant walls within the space were all made of semi-transparent glass. No, it shouldn't be called made, because this glass was seamless, without any visible joint.
In fact, calling it glass was incorrect, as no glass could be so transparent and clear, yet still infused with magical power. There appeared to be light points pulsating within the glass-like material, its surface uneven as if naturally formed.
"What you two esteemed guests are seeing is a material called 'Star Crystal.'
Noticing the gaze of Li Ang and the other, Eden explained from the front.
The beast-ear woman glanced at Dorothy, then at Li Ang, "Who is this guest?"
"Just like Zoe, she's a member of my team."
"Just like me?"
Zoe's eyes flickered with doubt as she sized up Dorothy, watching her curves that, though not as voluptuous as Eden, were nonetheless enticing. Her brows furrowed slightly.
"They're not the same at all."
Dorothy chuckled dryly, "Yes, yes, little sister."
"Li Ang," Zoe stared straight into Li Ang's eyes, "I thought I was the only member."
"It's impossible for a team to have only two members." Li Ang recalled, this much common knowledge she should have.
"Ah, right, I haven't had the chance to introduce you earlier."
Li Ang rubbed his temples; Zoe was truly adept at disrupting people's normal train of thought. Whenever she messed around, everything else was forgotten.
He stood between the two, introducing them to each other.
"This is Zoe, a child I met back home on Satus Island. She's a bit mischievous, but a kind-hearted good kid. Skilled with a sword and has special potential."
"This is Dorothy, a former adventuring companion of mine. We happened to meet again in the Ignis Sky Realm; she also has special potential, so she'll join us on future adventures."
Li Ang briefly explained their respective strengths; it would take time for them to understand each other, as it couldn't be conveyed in just one or two sentences.
"Hello." Dorothy's polite smile was impeccable.
Zoe didn't respond to her, instead tugging at Li Ang's sleeve and pointing at Dorothy, "How long ago was 'previously'?"
"About eight years ago."
"Oh." Zoe counted on her fingers, finally realizing and laughing, "Then I knew you even earlier."
"What is there to argue about?"
Li Ang had already lost count of how many times he sighed since earlier. When he raised his head, he saw Dorothy looking at him with an odd expression.
"What do you mean by 'earlier'?" The half-elf maiden's iridescent eyes were fixed on Li Ang's face.
Zoe: "Even though I didn't know Li Ang at the time, I was already sleeping on Li Ang's bed and blankets every day."
"Ah, seems like you two have a story." Dorothy squinted at them.
"Stop, stop, stop."
Li Ang inserted himself between the two women and said to Eden, "Anyway, if there's anything important to talk about, there's no need to avoid her. She's trustworthy..."
"Hey, what do you mean by decreasing the volume at the end," the half-elf maiden called out, "I'm also someone who can get hurt, you know? I entrusted my whole life to you."
Zoe blinked her large red eyes.
"Then please, both of you, continue to follow me."
Eden waved her ice-blue tail and led the way forward, while Dorothy muttered softly under her breath, angrily following along.
Li Ang whispered to her, "It's not that I don't trust you; I'm just thinking about how to explain the series of events ahead. As a teammate, you need to know, but it might be beyond anything you've encountered before."
"Anyway, I just don't understand anything."
"That's something even I don't know."
"Alright, I will try my best not to lose composure. But, they don't know about the Demon-Born Flower either, do they? My mother told me it's also an ancient secret."
Zoe quietly observed the two speaking, unconsciously sniffing at something.
"What are you doing?" Li Ang asked.
"Why do both you and she share the same scent?"
"We took the same ship."
"Oh."
The young girl nodded, still carrying a hint of doubt on her delicate face, holding her chin as she pondered something.
Under Eden's guidance, the three arrived at the center of the vast space.
"Lord Li Ang," Eden turned around, "this is my Star Palace."
"So this is the place you mentioned before, where you specifically wanted to bring Zoe."
Eden nodded, her large ears swaying slowly.
"With the arrival of the Divine Child, my strength has returned, and this place glows even more brightly."
Li Ang glanced at Eden's panel.
Earlier, it displayed signs of exhaustion in her energy source and skills, but now those signs were gone, and the combat power amplification had increased to 38%.
As the wolf maiden finished her words, Li Ang's clothing fluttered, and golden light flowed beside him, manifesting into the Earth Serpent Anastasia.
"Xiaohan!"
Zoe excitedly hugged the giant serpent, whose starry eyes twinkled momentarily, seemingly conveying some message to the young girl.
"You've gone through so much..."
Zoe seemed to have instantly absorbed the information, gazing at Li Ang with a hint of concern.
"Let's talk about those things later."
The young girl nodded obediently.
Eden said, "Our tribe is formed from a part of nature, but not born from natural or supernatural laws."
"You were guided into existence by that ancient race called the Divine People, weren't you?" Li Ang recalled the device at Satus Island's heart relic.
Eden nodded but seemed reluctant to discuss the Divine People, simply saying, "Since we weren't born from the world's laws, though we are meant to exist for eternity, our core power, 'Light of the Star Soul,' is consumed over time and cannot regenerate on its own.
"Most of the time, our tribe chooses hibernation to survive through the long years, during which the faint Light of the Star Soul disperses. Through their irradiation, surrounding materials transform into 'Star Crystals.'
Li Ang looked up at the vast space around him, "So, you once hibernated here."
"Yes."
Eden raised her hand, causing the light points throughout the space to start moving. Guided by her power, they swirled in the air.
"And within a large amount of Star Crystals, Light of the Star Soul is generated again to nurture us. Throughout the endless ages, that's how we've sustained our existence. We call the space that extends our existence the Star Palace."
Li Ang crouched down, touching the star crystal floor and sensing the spirit within it.
As she had said, the spirit within the star crystal attracted magical power, slowly transforming it into an energy Li Ang had never felt before. It was both scorching and steady, most likely the Light of the Star Soul providing power to the Star Soul.
The spirits in star crystals differed from those in the natural world, where ordinary spirits, by instinct, intermittent when drawing magic power to interfere in the material world, akin to humans' work and rest cycles. But the spirits within the star crystals produced the Light of the Star Soul at a completely consistent rate.
Eden continued, "However, since Star Crystals originate from our tribe themselves, their replenishment can only delay exhaustion. Fortunately, the Divine Child has descended into this world.
"In this Star Palace, the Light of the Star Soul isn't as intense as in our tribe's bodies, but it's more suitable for aiding the current Divine Child's growth.
"In just three short days, not disgracing its mission, the Divine Child has already attained power enhancement."
Oh?
Li Ang hadn't checked Zoe's panel before; he immediately opened it.
He discovered that the young girl's Caster profession had now become an Elemental Master, and the positions of her contracted spirits featured two: one being the Earth Serpent and the other the Frost Heaven Giant Wolf.
Star Soul could even perform the role of an Elemental Spirit, really excessive.
What was even more extraordinary was that her two Professional Tiers could substitute for Elemental Spirit positions?
More outrageous was that her two Professional Tiers could serve as stand-ins?
"Our tribe has more resources to offer the Divine Child."
Eden said, moving back, while her ice-blue tail swayed at the end, and she gestured for them to follow her. Dorothy mumbled something under her breath, angrily catching up.
