The trainees were dumbfounded, and the instructors in the Cave Fortress were equally abuzz with chatter and disbelief.
The female instructor teased the male instructor who had previously doubted Fang Zhou, saying, "Looks like without us even lifting a finger, Fang Zhou can take care of that Kobold camp himself!"
The male instructor wore a bewildered expression, smiling wryly as he said, "My mistake, I didn't expect Fang Zhou to be so... Well, Instructor Qingshan was right. Fang Zhou is simply a born Tactical Master!"
Lu Hu also grinned at Su Xinyan, pleased. "I guessed Fang Zhou might pull off something remarkable, but I didn't expect it to be this spectacular! Now, both the Kobolds and these Fierce Ants are his for the taking."
Su Xinyan looked at the live feed showing Fang Zhou's sunny smile and murmured, "How exactly does his mind work? With him around, it's truly a blessing for us Undead Mages!"
「Kobold Camp.」
Amidst the roar of the Warlock leader, the Kobold Stone Throwers continuously hurled stone projectiles at the swarm of Fierce Ants.
But the Fierce Ant swarm was not backing down.
Most of these were the same type of Iron Jaws Soldier Ants that Fang Zhou had encountered in the mine. With their hard shells and sharp mandibles, they were ferocious melee units. A small portion had mutated mouthparts that could spray corrosive liquid, forming the ant swarm's ranged units, known as Acidic Poison Soldier Ants. Finally, there were a few giant Fierce Ants, each two to three meters long. Their heads were dramatically swollen into a spindle shape, making them look like walking siege hammers from a distance.
Upon reaching firing range, dozens of Acidic Poison Soldier Ants raised their tubular mouthparts and sprayed streams of venom at the Kobold camp.
A strange-colored, foul-smelling slime shot out like an arrow, instantly crossing ten meters to strike a Kobold Stone Thrower. The skin touched by the slime corroded rapidly, as if drenched in concentrated sulfuric acid. The moisture evaporated in the blink of an eye. Besides its strong corrosiveness, the slime also carried neurotoxins that seeped continuously into the body.
The Kobold dared not touch it and quickly dropped to the ground, tumbling and trying to wipe the slime off. But a burning pain that seeped into its very bones kept eroding its nerves. Its consciousness gradually faded as its skin shriveled and turned black.
In this wave of toxic attacks, most of the quicker Kobolds managed to take cover behind the wooden walls, arrow towers, and other defenses, surviving unscathed. But some unlucky ones were not fast enough to dodge. They were either hit directly by the venom or caught by the splashback. Their fur sizzled as it corroded, and their wails echoed endlessly.
In just one round of venom attacks, the camp lost nearly ten of its hundred-strong Kobold force. This was undoubtedly a heavy blow to the survivors.
AWOO!
Seeing this, the Kobold Warlock leader let out a furious roar. It waved its Magic Staff, immediately conjuring a volleyball-sized Fireball. It hurled it forward with force. The Fireball trailed a red arc, shooting out like a meteor as it whistled through the air, its heat surging like a tide.
BANG! Sparks flew and red smoke billowed out.
A sharp shriek echoed from within the smoke. The body of one Iron Jaws Soldier Ant was blasted in half by the Fireball, its remains engulfed in flames. The burning ant twisted wildly, knocking over several of its brethren and igniting them as well. Even though it was an elite, Middle-Rank Apprentice-level Fierce Ant, it couldn't withstand a single revenge Fireball from the Kobold Warlock leader.
However, the swarm of Fierce Ants did not retreat because of their comrade's death. On the contrary, their hunger was only further stimulated. They suddenly increased their speed, their savage aura growing more potent as they charged the camp gate.
BOOM! Several of the giant Fierce Ants slammed into the camp gate like living siege hammers.
The entire gate shook violently, sending several Kobolds flying. They landed in a heap, their fates unknown. The giant Fierce Ants shrieked at the sky and rammed the gate again. The other Kobolds tucked their tails, letting out low barks, their morale evidently shaken. Yet, with the blessing of their [Bloodthirsty Skill], their overall fighting spirit remained relatively tenacious.
An Iron Jaws Soldier Ant approached, its serrated, scythe-like mandibles snapping. A careless Kobold was caught and instantly snipped in half at the waist.
WOOF!
Amidst the screams, a figure leaped high and landed heavily, bringing a massive iron hammer down on the Iron Jaws Soldier Ant's head.
CRACK! Under the elite Kobold's attack, the ant's hard shell fractured, and blood began to ooze out.
The intense battle continued. Although the Kobolds held a favorable, fortified position, the Fierce Ants were fearless and held the advantage in numbers. Soon, the camp's main gate was on the verge of collapse.
AWOO-WOOF!
In this dire situation, the Kobold Warlock leader did not sit idly by. With an extremely sharp bark, it unrolled a Scroll. A crimson, burning skull materialized above it. As the Warlock gestured, the skull flew straight toward the Fierce Ants.
From a distance, hiding in the shadows, Fang Zhou's eyes narrowed. Flaming Skeleton! He immediately recognized the signature Skill of an Evil Fire Warlock.
As the Flaming Skeleton flew, it rapidly expanded in mid-air. The Fierce Ant swarm had been exhilarated by the taste of Kobold flesh, but feeling the approaching heatwave, they suddenly grew restless. But they didn't have time to react before the scorching Flaming Skeleton was upon them!
BOOM!
With a deafening explosion, a large swath of the Fierce Ants was instantly blown away. Scorching flames swept across the area, turning it into a sea of fire. The already dilapidated camp gate was obliterated, shattering into countless fragments. Nearly twenty Fierce Ants met the same fate. They had gathered to breach the gate, and their dense formation had just become their death sentence.
Despite their solid carapaces, the Fierce Ants had no effective defense against magical Skills. Those hit directly by the Flaming Skeleton were all killed instantly. The nearby Fierce Ants caught in the blast suffered severe injuries. Even two of the giant Fierce Ants, which had previously been wreaking havoc on the Kobolds, were blown to smithereens.
Fang Zhou felt a flicker of surprise as he surveyed the chaotic battlefield. This Flaming Skeleton was far more powerful than the Continuous Fireball the Kobold Warlock leader had previously used, which his Skeleton Shield had blocked.
On its own, a Flaming Skeleton shouldn't possess such destructive power. The Warlock must have used some special artifact!
