Undead Mage: I Have a Skeleton Clone

Chapter 91: Nighttime Demon Tide Ruthless Elimination

With long, speckled legs and wings flapping at near-invisible speeds, the mosquitoes created a tremendous, buzzing roar. It was like a fighter jet taking off right beside them, nearly bursting the Fierce Rats' eardrums and causing their entire bodies to tremble uncontrollably.

Most striking was the proboscis of these Fierce Mosquitoes, which resembled a three-sided spike. The tips were exceedingly sharp, glinting with a faint red light that promised bloodlust and savagery.

Swarms of Fierce Mosquitoes dove into the battlefield from midair. They emitted a strange, high-pitched shrill and shot forward like bullets, rushing toward the Fierce Rats on the ground with their sharp proboscises flashing menacingly.

Piercing screams and wails tore through the pitch-black night sky before fading into nothingness.

The sharp proboscises of several Fierce Mosquitoes plunged viciously into the body of a Fierce Rat. Gurgling blood was sucked through the proboscises and into the mosquitoes' bodies, causing the blood-sucking appendages to flicker with a faint red light.

The attacked Fierce Rat struggled frantically, turning to bite one of the Fierce Mosquitoes in an attempt to kill it. But it was helpless; its strength waned as its blood was rapidly drained away. Gradually, its struggles ceased, and its wailing screams grew weaker and weaker.

The Fierce Rat shriveled like dehydrated tree bark. Even the flesh and blood beneath its skin seemed to have been stripped away, leaving just a withered husk wrapped around a skeleton.

After absorbing the Fierce Rat's blood, the Fierce Mosquitoes glimmered with a faint red light and became even more savage. They hovered in midair for a moment before shooting toward their next target.

However, the Fierce Rats did not back down in the face of the attack. Instead, the assault roused them to a savage frenzy. Emitting piercing squeals, they leaped into the air, their sharp teeth—capable of easily biting through wooden sticks—snapping at the Fierce Mosquitoes.

Though both were Demons, conflict still existed between different species. Consuming the Flesh and Blood Essence of another would cause them to mutate further, allowing them to evolve and become more powerful. This instinct, embedded deep within their marrow, made the bloody battles between Demons far more brutal and direct than any between humans.

「Inside the Cave Fortress.」

A group of instructors was anxiously monitoring the Trial Students in the Caves. The Caves at night were far more dangerous than before. These students had already transformed from Hunters into prey, and the elimination rate had increased dramatically.

"Report: Student 123 has been eliminated. The stationed instructor has been dispatched for rescue."

"Student 88 is critically injured. The medical team is deployed."

"Student 166's signal is lost, possibly after entering an area of electromagnetic disturbance. Requires constant monitoring."

"Student 1 has been besieged by Fierce Rats and Fierce Mosquitoes for a long time. The situation is unknown. Requires constant monitoring."

Fierce Mosquitoes?

Upon hearing the report, Lu Hu, who was directing operations from his seat in the command hall, immediately stood up. He looked at the combat live stream of Student 1, Fang Zhou, his expression turning solemn.

A female instructor asked nervously, "Fierce Mosquitoes are considered the most troublesome Demons in Cave No. 1. They are numerous, fly incredibly fast, and their attack methods are vicious. Several candidates were eliminated previously because they were unlucky enough to be attacked by Fierce Mosquitoes. How is Fang Zhou's situation now?"

The monitoring personnel replied, "He has been fighting for nearly an hour, and we haven't found anything unusual so far. The Fierce Rats and Fierce Mosquitoes have not breached the Goblin Cave he is in."

Lu Hu said gravely, "There shouldn't be any problem, but have the stationed instructors pay closer attention to him."

"Yes!"

The female instructor sighed. "I still think that sending these newly Awakened recruits directly into Cave Hunting is too hasty. This place is far too dangerous for them."

Lu Hu waved his hand, indicating she should drop the subject. Since the plan had been made, all the instructors could do was their absolute best to ensure the students' survival.

「Back on the battlefield outside the Goblin Cave.」

The area had descended into chaos. One portion of the Fierce Rats still tightly surrounded Fang Zhou's Skeleton Army. Under Fang Zhou's command, the Skeletons formed an impenetrable white-bone defense line, firmly guarding the cave entrance.

Meanwhile, the other Fierce Rats were locked in a bloody struggle with the Fierce Mosquitoes that had suddenly appeared and launched an attack.

Inside the Goblin Cave, Fang Zhou's expression was no longer relaxed.

The Fierce Rats are ground-based Demons, so the terrain limits their numbers. They can't possibly break through the Skeleton Army's defensive line. But flying Demons like the Fierce Mosquitoes are another story. They are smaller and extremely agile in the air. If they manage to break through the defensive line from above and rush into the cave, it would be quite troublesome.

Fang Zhou took the Odor Elimination Potion he had prepared from his bag and sprayed it on himself again. Then he gripped his Apprentice Magic Staff tightly, maintaining a vigilant stance, ready to unleash an attack at any moment.

Fortunately, the Fierce Mosquitoes were currently obsessed with the flesh and blood of the Fierce Rats, showing no interest in the Skeleton Army, which was nothing but bones. For the time being, they had become the Skeleton Army's "allies."

The battle outside the cave raged on. Stimulated by the scent of fresh blood, both the Fierce Mosquitoes and the Fierce Rats became even more excited and savage, fighting as if high on adrenaline in a battle to the death.

While the Fierce Mosquitoes held the advantage in numbers, an individual Fierce Rat was stronger than a single Fierce Mosquito. Often, several Fierce Mosquitoes would dive simultaneously to attack a single Fierce Rat. Once their dreadful proboscises pierced a rat's body, the victim would lose all ability to fight in mere seconds as its blood was rapidly drained.

However, the sharp claws and teeth of the Fierce Rat horde could easily tear apart the mosquitoes' fragile bodies. Even with their aerial advantage, the Fierce Mosquitoes constantly suffered casualties from the Fierce Rats' final, desperate counterattacks.

The battle intensified, and the stench of blood wafted far and wide.

Because of the Fierce Mosquitoes' arrival, the number of Fierce Rats besieging the Skeleton Army gradually thinned as more and more of them turned their attention to the new enemy.

However, Fang Zhou had no intention of being a bystander. He summoned more Skeletons inside the cave, reinforcing the defense line while simultaneously directing his forces to focus their attacks on the more troublesome Fierce Mosquitoes.

To Fang Zhou, with his limited Spiritual Power and lack of ranged attacks, the Fierce Rats were a minor nuisance; the flying Fierce Mosquitoes were the real threat.
