Liora's figure was many times smaller than the unknown Devil's true form.
Standing in front of him, she seemed akin to an ant facing a menacing dragon.
Yet, the power coursing through her body filled her with confidence.
The sword in her hand traced through the air, drawing a line across the space, and arrived before the palm.
Then, it struck it.
Liora's arm trembled. The sword in her grasp shook and, although made of pure darkness, cracks began forming all over its surface.
On the other hand, the downward momentum of the palm only paused for a brief moment before continuing.
A loud shriek followed as the sword could no longer withstand the power.
With a clang, it shattered into fragments, quickly dissolving into shadows.
Fortunately, Liora had never believed that her attack would be able to match the unknown Devil's.
She only needed it to win her some time, and it had achieved that purpose.
During the brief pause of the palm, the darkness around her rippled, and a hole formed beneath her feet, swallowing her entire figure.
The next moment, the palm finally landed.
The ground of the barracks shook, as a deep, many-meter-long handprint was left across its surface.
Dust and gravel scattered everywhere, destroying what little remained of the nearby buildings.
But the crazed unknown Devil did not feel happy.
He could sense that his prey had disappeared, and his palm had caught nothing.
A furious roar soon escaped his mouth as he turned around and searched for his prey.
Shuttling through the shadows, Liora watched this happen with a cold gaze.
She didn't rush to take action.
Though she had activated Life Ignition and boosted her strength, she was still fully rational.
She understood that the current True Devil surpassed her in both power and combat experience.
Under normal circumstances, it should have been impossible for Liora to contend with him.
"Thankfully, the current True Devil faces two major issues. Firstly, his power is destined not to last for long. With nothing left to devour, the faith making up his body will soon deplete."
"Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, his loss of consciousness has made his senses far less sharp. I can exploit this to my advantage.", Liora analyzed as she watched the True Devil run in circles, searching for her traces.
Suddenly, her eyes gleamed.
The shadows around her squirmed, and she was ejected out of them.
A short dagger materialized in her palm as she emerged behind the unknown Devil and thrust it forward.
Though standing, her figure failed to reach the Devil's knees, much less his vital spots. But Liora didn't care.
Swinging the dagger, she aimed at the tiny gaps between the spiked scales, letting its sharp tip and edge pierce through them.
Once the dagger was inside, she let it dissolve into shadows, creating a large hole as a result and causing large amounts of blood to pour out.
Instantly, the leg and even the entire body of the unknown Devil shook.
Though the wound was tiny when his entire body was taken into account, and the wound was not fatal, it still jolted him awake.
Feeling the aura of his prey behind him and the pain in his right leg, the Devil instinctively turned around.
His crazed eyes reflected Liora's figure as he clenched his many hands into fists and punched down.
But his blow failed to hit the target.
The moment before any of the fists could touch her, Liora's mind moved again, and she blended with the surrounding shadows.
Then, she shuttled behind the unknown Devil, launching another powerful strike at the gaps in his defense.
Before the unknown Devil could respond, she vanished again, teleporting to another place.
Soon, a strange scene unfolded amidst the ruins of the barracks.
A towering humanoid monster launched a barrage of attacks on his surroundings, bringing devastation to the land around him.
From time to time, a tiny—in comparison—figure would show up and suddenly attack him.
The figure's blows did not cause much damage individually, but as they piled up, they began making the movements of the monster more difficult.
Being at the heart of the battle, Liora was the first to notice this.
She could feel that the movements of the unknown Devil were growing increasingly sluggish, while the time it took for him to respond to her attacks was becoming longer.
At the same time, the power of his blows was slowly decreasing, obviously a result of having consumed a large part of the accumulated faith.
Liora breathed a sigh of relief.
She knew that the method she used to deal with the unknown Devil was unconventional and, under normal circumstances, should not have worked.
The only reason everything went so well was that the unknown Devil had lost consciousness and could not detect her presence.
Otherwise, her hiding place would have been discovered long ago.
At the same time, the loss of consciousness rendered the True Devil unable to use any of his trump cards. He could rely solely on his physical body and the abilities engraved in his bloodline.
Still, Liora didn't let down her guard.
She knew better than to underestimate such a being, even when they were fully unconscious.
Sure enough, seeing that his prey was constantly slipping away and that his power was decreasing at an astonishing rate, a rare trace of intellect flashed in the unknown Devil's eyes.
Though he didn't fully awaken from his slumber, he made a surprising decision.
The demonic energy in his body boiled and rushed towards his many hands, transforming into dozens of thick, black metal chains.
The chains seemed to possess a will of their own, and they shot out, creating a large prison cage in the area around him.
Within it, the space froze, sealing it completely.
The Devil's outburst was not over just yet.
Demonic energy rose through his long throat.
It swirled within his mouth, taking a real form, and grew bigger, like an expanding black hole.
The ground trembled as the unknown Devil slowly lowered his head, aiming directly at the earth below.
Then, he spat out the demonic energy.
As if a nuclear warhead had fallen, the entire world froze.
For a split second, nothing could be heard, and nothing could be seen.
But then, a bright crimson light engulfed the cage.
The entire demi-plane housing the cult's stronghold shook violently, affected by the Devil's desperate attack.
