Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 85: Descent [1] - Contact

Millions, if not billions, of voices rang inside Liora's head as the white lights revolved around her, sometimes getting closer and other times moving away as if they were being intimate.

Although Liora had never activated the World-Descending Array before, the knowledge she had obtained from the mysterious blood and the information contained in her inherited memories allowed her to make sense of what was happening.

Each of the lights before her represented an individual in another world—an individual that had somehow established a connection with the Demon World.

The several voices in her mind belonged exactly to those individuals, with most of them requesting that she do something for them.

Liora knew that as long as she agreed to help them achieve their wishes, she would be able to use them as a springboard to descend into their world.

However, although danger was imminent and her life might be in danger at any moment, she didn't rush to make a decision.

Though she wished to escape her current predicament, she couldn't descend into just any world.

After all, some worlds were basically a death sentence to mere Lesser Devils like her.

With that in mind, Liora observed the white lights surrounding her.

The lights varied, both in size and brilliance.

The brilliance represented the strength of the individual that was calling for her, while the size represented the strength and status of that world in the Heavens.

According to these two characteristics, the requests coming from each light also differed.

The weakest lights wished for things like help with their love life, while the strongest ones requested that she help deal with Angels, Gods, and Otherworld Invasions.

In an instant, Liora dismissed the latter.

With her current combat power, dealing with such apex creatures was impossible. Let alone killing them, if she were to meet such beings, they would be able to obliterate her with a glance.

Besides that, Liora also quietly dismissed the weaker lights, knowing that such weak worlds would not be of much help to her.

Thus, Liora was left with far fewer choices.

Just when she was closely inspecting those choices and prepared to make a decision, she felt the earth beneath her shake violently.

Reluctantly taking her eyes off the white lights, Liora instinctively raised her head, only to discover that the cave's reinforced walls had crumbled at some point, revealing the crimson sky of the Demon World.

On the surface, a towering creature stood above a large hole and leaned inside, its mere existence causing tremors to the space around it.

"Found you!", the suspected True Devil Fire Elemental growled in a hoarse voice and stretched out its arm, reaching into the cave from the opening.

Before Liora's eyes, the flames making up the Fire Elemental's body surged violently.

Its hand grew larger, seemingly bigger than an entire world as it slowly descended towards her, ready to slap her down like an ant.

Liora felt her body and mind freeze.

The difference in the life levels between her and the creature made it impossible to resist. Or rather, it made it impossible for even the thought of resisting to arise in her mind.

Helpless, Liora could only watch the gigantic palm fall down as her consciousness slowly plunged into darkness.

Just when it seemed that her death was certain and that she would soon return to reincarnation, though, an abrupt movement in her hands jolted her awake.

Lowering her head, Liora found that this movement came from Alpha's head, which—although unconscious and lifeless—vibrated of its own accord.

Liora didn't have time to investigate why this happened. Her focus shifted to the white lights around her.

Then, just as the flames were about to fully erase her existence, she chose the one she felt the closest to.

The moment she made her choice, Liora felt her body shatter into pieces, as the world around her began spinning. A moment later, both her and Alpha's figures vanished.

It was only then that the Fire Elemental's attack finally arrived. However, with Liora's departure, it struck at absolutely nothing.

"Huh?", a faint exclamation echoed in the otherwise silent cave.

"A Lesser Devil that can invade other worlds? How interesting...", a rough voice came.

--

In a dark room entirely made out of cold stone slabs, the sound of faint, distant footsteps could be heard.

These footsteps were full of panic and rush, making the emotions of their owner abundantly clear.

Suddenly, the door of the room swung open, and a figure stepped inside.

That figure was a woman in her early twenties, with long, lush blonde hair and a pair of bright, pure blue eyes.

Her facial features were extremely beautiful, as if she were a princess who had stepped straight out of a movie, while she wore an elegant blue dress that further complemented her appearance.

Yet, despite the woman's extraordinary beauty, she showed an expression of fear and resentment at the moment.

Half of her expensive dress had been ripped to shreds, riddled with holes and scratches, while blood dyed the left side of her face.

The moment the stone door opened, the woman scrambled to get into the room.

With uneven, awkward steps, she rushed forward, almost falling to the ground a couple of times.

But the woman didn't have time to feel embarrassed.

Rubbing the sweat off her pale, bloody face, she arrived at the center of the room and stopped.

There, a crimson leather-bound book was displayed within a thin layer of crystal glass.

The book's cover was odd, filled with strange runes that twisted eerily, runes that looked like countless tiny roaming tadpoles.

As the woman approached her family's heirloom, her eyes flashed with a hint of terror, as well as faint hesitation.

But when the bloody screams outside and the sound of rapidly approaching footsteps reached her ears, that hesitation instantly disappeared.

Reaching into her chest and removing the metal chain from her neck, she grasped the golden key that hung on it and brought it closer to the display.
