My Goblin System : Levelling up with my SSS Class Devouring skill

Chapter 182

Seraphine's breath caught. She placed her hand over his, pressing it against her cheek.

"I don't understand you," she whispered. "With all the experience I have , and I still can't figure you out. You should be cynical. Manipulative. Willing to sacrifice others for your own benefit. But you're not. You're genuine in ways I'd forgotten were possible."

"Is that a bad thing?"

"It's terrifying," Seraphine admitted. "Because it makes me want things I'd given up on. Makes me think maybe I could be more than what I've become. And I don't know if I'm capable of that change."

They stayed like that for a moment, Satou's hand on her cheek, Seraphine's fingers threading through his hair, both of them existing in a space of vulnerability neither was entirely comfortable with.

"Thank you," Seraphine finally said. "For fighting for me. For refusing to let me die. For seeing something in me worth protecting even when I wasn't sure it existed."

"You're welcome," Satou replied. Then, with a slight smile: "Though maybe next time, don't try to seduce me as your opening move. It makes the heroic rescue feel a bit awkward."

Seraphine laughed—a real laugh, not the practiced seductive sound she usually deployed. "Fair point. Though in my defense, seduction is usually my most effective strategy. It's not my fault you were immune to corruption magic and common sense."

"I'm not immune to you," Satou said quietly, his eyes meeting hers. "I'm just immune to being collected. There's a difference."

Seraphine's breath caught again. "What are you saying?"

"I'm saying that the person sitting here taking care of me, crying because she was worried, being genuine instead of manipulative, that person is someone I could be interested in. Not the seductress who tried to add me to her collection. Not the demon lord playing games. But Seraphine. Just... Seraphine."

For three hundred years, Seraphine had used her beauty, her corruption magic, her carefully crafted persona to control and manipulate. She'd seduced countless individuals, turning them into devoted servants. She was a master of using intimacy as a weapon.

But this someone seeing past all of that to the person underneath and choosing that person instead was entirely new territory.

"I don't know how to be 'just Seraphine,'" she admitted, her voice small. "I've been playing roles for so long that I'm not sure there's anything real left underneath."

"Then maybe we figure it out together," Satou offered. "No games. No manipulation. Just two people who've been through something traumatic and are trying to make sense of what comes next."

Seraphine looked at him for a long moment, studying his face, searching for any hint of deception or hidden agenda. But all she saw was honesty. Genuine interest mixed with exhaustion and pain, but no calculation behind it.

"You're still recovering," she finally said. "You shouldn't be making decisions like this while your brain is probably still foggy from mana exhaustion."

"My brain is fine," Satou replied. "And I know what I'm saying. I'm interested in you, Seraphine. Not because of your corruption magic or your status or your appearance—though you're definitely beautiful. But because when everything fell apart, when The Reaper was about to kill you, I realized I didn't want you to die. And not just in an abstract 'save the innocent' way. I specifically wanted you to survive."

He shifted slightly in her lap, trying to get more comfortable despite his injuries. "I already have two partners—Lyra and Jessica. They know I'm not monogamous, and they're okay with that as long as everyone's honest about it. But I don't just add people to my relationships casually. If you're interested in exploring this, it needs to be real. Not a game. Not manipulation. Real."

Seraphine was quiet for several heartbeats, processing everything he'd said. This wasn't how her seductions usually went. Usually, by this point, the target was already under her corruption's influence, eager to do anything for her attention.

But Satou was offering something different. Something that required her to be vulnerable in return.

"I don't know if I can do real," she admitted. "I've spent so long wearing masks that I'm not sure I remember what my actual face looks like."

"Then start small," Satou suggested. "Tell me something true. Something you haven't told anyone else. Something that's not part of your demon lord persona."

Seraphine hesitated, then took a breath. When she spoke, her voice was soft, almost fragile.

"I'm lonely," she confessed. "I've been lonely for three hundred years. I have servants and subordinates and people who fear or desire me, but I don't have anyone who actually knows me. I've built this entire city, created a safe haven for thousands, but at the end of the day, I go to bed alone because I've never let anyone get close enough to see past the mask."

She looked down at him, and her eyes were wet again. "I tried to seduce you because that's all I know. That's my only tool for connection. But you rejected that and offered something I didn't know I wanted—the possibility of being seen. Really seen. Not as the corrupted angel or the seductive demon lord, but as Seraphine."

"And are you interested in that?" Satou asked gently. "In being seen? In letting someone past the masks?"

"I'm terrified of it," Seraphine replied honestly. "But yes. I think I am. You nearly died protecting me, and that broke something in the walls I've built. Made me want things I'd given up on. Made me think maybe I could have something real instead of just collected servants."

She ran her fingers through his hair again, the gesture becoming more intimate. "But I don't know how to do this without the games. Without the manipulation. I've spent three centuries using intimacy as a weapon. How do I just... be genuine?"

"You're already doing it," Satou pointed out. "Right now. This conversation. Admitting vulnerability. That's genuine. You don't need to seduce me or corrupt me or play games. Just... be honest. That's all I'm asking."

Seraphine let out a shaky breath. "That's actually harder than any seduction I've ever attempted."

"I know," Satou said with a slight smile. "But it's worth it. Trust me."
